Current Player #3 Ciaron Brown

I’m no fan of Manchester United but it’s understandable why their fans dislike England. Especially in that supposed golden era their players were figures of hate - Beckham hanging from a noose, Neville’s etc. England were near to winning absolutely nothing yet the best player in the country at the time, Scholes, was shoe horned in around Gerrard and Lampard. Carrick, the best forward passer of a football England had at the time, didn’t get a kick.
Nope, can see you have no fondness for Man Utd at all...

Predictable, isnt it?

I don't go on the out-and-out bigotry section these days but have we had a stirring reprise of "I couldn't care less if my daughters don't marry white blokes with jobs who like golf, but............."?

Are you saying his son is gay?

I think his son is straight but his sons best friend is gay, they live together, share a room and everything but because his son plays golf he can't be gay.

This is why White won’t play for England. Who wants to go through all the rigmarole of getting together, training when you know you’ll be getting 10 minutes - or in Browns case, not at all - a likely flight somewhere, risking an injury that will scupper your participation in the most exciting part of your clubs season etc.

I’m not a fan of international football qualification or friendles, never have been. I’ll watch the tournaments but that’s about it. These last two games for England, I’ve been in, sat at home but have watched a combined 10 minutes and that was the last 10 minutes of the Brazil game. Didn’t even turn the TV on last night. It’s no more than a pre season kick about when you very often get 10 changes by the hour.

I don’t blame White one bit, I’d much rather be sat on a beach in Dubai with my wife than sat on a bench in London. If I was Brown I’d retire last night too, thanks but no thanks when he’s next called up. Des should be fuming at NI too, sending his man on a wild goose chase like that. Can you imagine Ferguson if that happened - but it’s good management and proper care and welfare for your player.
The game was in Scotland, not Papua New Guinea!!

Oxford to Belfast to Romania back to Belfast to Scotland back to Belfast and then to Oxford is, trust me, a wild goose chase.

It must be awful for a fit young lad to have to do a little bit of travelling to train and hang out with some mates while getting it all paid for, not exactly the hardship you are making it out to be.

Ok, for purposes of making the point I may have exaggerated it slightly but you know what I mean. Scholes was at least up there and Carrick was never really given a proper run. Ferguson didn't help either with all his protestations when his players was called up. That too probably filtered through to their fan base and why they were a bit bitter and I suppose remain unforgiving. Liverpool are a bit the same, they resent supporting England too. Wembley in the south too isn't going to endear northerners to making the long trek there on a Tuesday to watch Andorra and 20 odd caps dished out in one night!

Or after a season where he's played pretty much every domestic game (45-50 games) just resting and putting your feet up before a packed programme to finish. You ask any manager what he'd rather his player was doing. You sound a bit clueless.

Brown will be back in Oxford today, travelling to Shrewsbury tomorrow, playing Friday and again Monday. I cannot see in what world you think travelling a few thousand miles and not kicking a ball is good for any footballer.

What, even Des?

Well he has been putting his feet up? Had he not been called up we could of played against Lincoln so he wouldn't of got a rest then.

He doesn't have to go, he chose to which is fair enough, got f**k all to do with a boring old has been of a man u fan like you what he chooses to do with his life.

As I said, clueless.

I completely understand why Brown would want to go on international duty, it is an honour to represent your country.

However, as someone who doesn’t like these pointless friendlies at international level, it frustrates me when one of our players has been called up and not even played a single minute.

I’d be interested to see how many minutes the players that went on international duty actually played, and in meaningful games.

I thought they were putting the nations league in place to stop pointless friendlies but we have just had 2 right before the biggest stage of the season.
