Pompey signing Moxon. Strengthening well.

Based on last night, they do need to strengthen as I thought they were a step below the likes of Derby & Peterborough for instance.

BUT - Peart-Harris, Lang, McIntyre and possibly Moxon too. That is some serious January investment recognising the opportunity for promotion that being well-placed in a considerably weaker-than-usual League One presents. Fair play to them!

I thought exactly the same. They didn't look too dissimilar to us. What they do have is good options up top and off the bench.

They're investing again at a time when they need an injection to get over the line. Fair play to them.

Am I the only one but when I've seen Moxon (only a few times tbf) I was unimpressed as he seemed to slow play down a lot?

That is not to say he won't be a good signing but just to me that he looks no more than an average L1 player.

Nevertheless, I fully expect Charlton Athletic to top the league 😁

Not had the same impact at L1 level so far but obviously something about him. Mous had better get the job done, he can't complain he hasn't been backed and we all acknowledge that there are no standout sides this year. Thought they were distinctly average last night given what's at their disposal compared to us.

OK. Would you say Haaland, bound to be one of the great goal scorers of all time, is as technically gifted as Messi, one of the greatest players of all time ? Would you say Lewandowski, probably the greatest goal scorer of a generation, is as technically gifted as, say, Tierry Henry was ? Which bit don't you get ?
Obviously your definition of technically gifted differs from most. Technically gifted has a multitude of skillsets. Bobby Moore was technically gifted so was Beckenbauer, so was Bobby Charlton, so was George Best. But an equal comparison, was Geoff Hurst but by your definition I suspect he wasn't.
There are many skillsets nobody has them all.
But as a comparison you site Lewandowski. Well compare Haaland aged 23 to Lewandowski aged 23. Lewandowski had just joined Borussia Dortmund from Lech Poznan. He had been in the Bundesliga for one season. Nowhere near in his career development as Haaland is at the same age.
You are comparing players who are done with a guy with a major part of his career in front of him. The comparison with those greats is only sane when Haaland's career is over.

I agree, I thought they were very poor, especially being Lge leaders.

Posh and the Trotters top 2.

Credit to the club for keeping the Dale (and Burey) deals under wraps. I know there was a conscious effort to stop info getting out and it seems to have worked so far. Think Marriott will come then we'll be keeping an eye on who becomes available on deadline day.

One thing I find fascinating by this ‘old school’ football talk is that the Inside Left and Inside Right roles - essential wide forwards - predate the 4-4-2 formation.

Aye, predominantly early through to late mid 20th century iirc. Maybe before that as well but I haven't seen much on formations from then.

Also, the XG hipsters are using numbers to describe positions all wrong. 6 is centre back, not midfield!

1 - GK

2 - RB
5 - CB
6 - CB
3 - LB

7 - RW
4 - CM
8 - CM
11 - LW

9 - Striker
10 - Striker

Anything else is wrong!!

Amazing how much money can be generated for transfers/wages when you get 18,000 punters a game in and don't have to pay half a million quid a year in rent!
