The same lack of strategy or planning above didn't stop Manning, he came in and brought an assistant, analysis and GK coach with him. He then worked with Ed Waldron in bringing some decent players in.

For me, what the last couple of months has shown is that

a) Manning is a really good coach and tactician. Him and Hogg, at least. It wasn't always pretty, but he had this same group of players rigidly organized, knowing exactly what they were doing and playing above their station. We weren't always creating bags of chances, but we were controlling games and that has completely gone out the window since he's left

b) Our summer recruitment wasn't actually all that great.
Rodrigues and Leigh were excellent signings (although I think anyone who knows lower league football could have told you they would be.....the trick was getting them to come here). Beadle was a great short term keeping option but as it turns out, just a six month fling. Harris is a good player being asked to take on a crazy amount of responsibility for one who'd only ever scored three goals a season before......
.....but Stevens and Mills were only OK, Edwards is another in a long line of capable but chronically injured wingers, Perkins (assuming he's the one that was supposed to provide striking depth) was an epic disaster, and McEachran & Thorniley have unfortunately both been poor - I don't think we were told exactly how long they signed for, but at the moment they're looking like being next season's albatross contracts for aging players that have gone past their peak.

In retrospect (which is the only way you can really judge it), it was maybe a 6/10 window, and still left us with a thin, lop-sided squad. And then when you parachute in an inexperienced manager and completely fail to give him adequate coaching support, you get what we saw last week.

I don't think this is a problem that you can realistically solve in the next four days. Papering over the cracks with a couple of loanee forwards is not going to turn us around on its own, and we're not going to sign the 5/6 players we need when we've already got so much salary tied up in Browne, Murphy & Henry (as well, now as Thorniley & McEachran). Tough spot that TW and GF (with an assist from KR) have put us in.

True but the same structure was in place when Robinson was in charge, obviously he had a mid life crisis in his last season with us but the previous seasons he done pretty well with a similar set up above.

Des clearly isn't the right man to manage this club.
The structure was in place because Robinson was in charge, GF and TW inherited it and they still don’t seem to understand that it’s not the right way to operate.

Des might not be the right man to manage this club, I don’t disagree, but until the fundamental structural issues are resolved we’re way too dependent on the talents of a Manager to do about six jobs.

I'm not sure replacing Tim and Grant improves Des's lack of tactical nouce or how he coaches the players. What he really needs is an experienced no 2 with efl experience.
These are the two guys who couldn't see the iceberg Robinson was steering us into until it had ripped through the hull of the ship.

I doubt either had the foresight to see he would need some help after they appointed him and they've quite clearly failed to bring anyone in after that shambles of an assistant manager announcement.

So are there any vaguely plausible rumours out there for signings next week?
Well we were looking to have attacking options in before the Gas game so I would expect their announcement Monday morning

I heard Tim might be on the verge of signing a multi-part podcast deal so he can tell us more about his customer activations and retail sales

Do you think your avatar picture thing is actually suitable for a man in a responsible position?

Responsible position? I'm a forum moderator, I make sure you lot don't start being overly offensive to each other, attempt to generate some healthy debate and generally keep things tidy.

I do not answer to the club, none of us do, me poking fun at Tim Williams really shouldn't matter

Having witnessed, first hand, Uncle Timmy defending KR, it is clear, to me, that he is not suited to his role as it is playing out. A DoF is an essential part of the set up required. The chuckle brothers can then continue counting "match day activations" (I still don't know what they are) and patting each other on a jolly good retail expansion and entertaining local dignitaries to further the commercial progress. Leave the football to those who actually know what they are doing.

His latest statement screamed numbers man, which makes sense if he's heading up finance (and given his previous experience), but of course, he isn't

You know what @Manorlounger having met him at the same time as you

I honestly think Timmy Mallett could do a better job than Timmy Williams, or Timmy the t**t as I shall now call him

The club has just appointed a new Finance Director but still denies the need for a DoF. Methinks priorities are a tad confused.
Bean counter - Yes. Goal counter - No.

Will Evans looks brilliant for Newport imagine there will be a load of clubs looking at him.

Just about to say the same thing. Looks a Goodwin-type player profile-wise though so shouldn't imagine we'll be after him. A certain chicken shop owner might receive a bid come the 31st however, such is the competence of our senior leadership.
