You misunderstand me, I’m not saying Charlton will do it, I realise that they would have to have a huge turn around.
What I am saying is that the ambition is there with signings like Coventry and Lapado
They are prepared to give it a go

Charlton had "ambition" at the beginning of the season and were looking to "give it a go" - we know because Kip kept telling us!

But they would be 15th in Port Vale and Cambridge got anything from their games in hand.

They're targeting a top 10 finish, we're 4 points off the top spot!

Ambition!

I think three. Need a goalkeeper as McGinty will go and Eastwood is best away from playing in the fist team, only as a bench warmer
Um.......

Out of interest, what exactly happened with Seddon? He went from being our top assist provider to suddenly being shifted out on loan. As I couldn't make that many matches around that part of the season, I must have missed something that was blatant to everyone not listening to RadOx.
He couldnt defend to save his life.

they should do considering the size of the club.

What's the problem with that? Having options off the bench isn't something to be scared of.

He wouldn't be nailed to the bench either, some game he might be the best option. Sometimes we might want to play Harris out wide and one of Ladapo (or another experienced striker as he's at Charlton) and Goodwin up front. Sometimes we might want to rest Harris and our other striker. Someone could get injured moving Goodwin up the pecking order, or he could be spurred on by the competition and improve in training and make an impact in games and become our number one striker.

For years we've been stacked with wingers and no one seemed to have an issue with it while we were short in other areas. We got away with it for a couple of seasons with no injuries at the back and then it ended up with us playing Williams at left back and Sykes at right back. We only had one striker last season who was unfortunately past it but we couldn't replace him. I don't understand why people would see having strength in depth as a bad thing.
So we sign a striker for £400,000 and leave him on the bench ?!
He will have to battle it out with Harris of course and I'd say another striker will join but be third in the pecking order .
That's a great statement by the club to sign this high ceiling potential and he is going to play .

I'm going to exaggerate your points for effect, but this is the type of post that I find incredible.

We've had people repeatedly saying that the next 4 or 5 games will define our season and any dropped points could kill our chances of promotion etc.

Yet you think that Charlton could turn around a 19 point deficit in the next 20 games? We and several other teams would have to be exceptionally bad whilst Charlton hit league winning form every single game to even have a sniff of the playoffs.

And if Charlton miss the playoffs, which is virtually guaranteed, then what have they gained from an expensive loan signing in Ladapo?

Meanwhile we are realistically one of 7 or 8 clubs fighting for a top 6 finish, and will have Will Goodwin on our books for another 3 seasons after this one, where we will hopefully gain success with him or develop him into a highly valuable asset.

There is a tendency on here for people to look at other clubs with starry eyes whilst missing what we have here.
Can you provide a link to where Goodwin's length of contract has been confirmed and disclosed because I can't see anywhere including on the club website where it just says long-term. Hopefully you are not disclosing information you shouldn't. Be even worse if you are guessing.

It doesn’t need to be that scientific. It’s a squad game where from game to game it may suit us to have one type of player, or another, or both. But you need the options to have any choice and for years we haven’t had that while other teams have sailed past us in to the championship for doing a proper job of that.

What’s the down side of someone pushing Harris for his position particularly when they offer a totally different skill set? We’ve still got so much growth ahead as a club and fan base. Some people are still far too invested in the players’ feelings or their achievements for us in ancient history to actually work out what’s good for the club and going to get us where we need to go. We need to be made of stronger stuff than that and face up to reality. Clubs will continue to breeze past us to the championship until we snap out of that this kind of mentality. Competition for places has absolutely no down side unless the players you bring in have a victim mindset and/or a manager that can’t manage the personalities on his hands.

You just don't get it do you. There is more to just signing players this season even if there is a completely impossible chance that they will get into the play offs and achieve promotion. Its about the manager saving his job, and the owner saving face and together they have both chosen to do something about it and good on them for showing their fans their intent. And in just 6 months time they start a new season on a level playing field with zero points like everyone else and if they can get it together to finish this season well then they have the fans back on side and have another recruitment drive in the Summer. The pattern of Appleton's first season with us is extremely similar to what is happening there and if it works for them they will be a team to keep an eye on and not so casually dismiss as also rans who are taking a scattergun approach to try and get lucky.

Plus a 1 year option that is pretty standard on every contract these days.
So Jon Palmer is the go to person who divulges every football clubs turnover, contracts and salaries. Not exactly official is it. If this is the guff you are relying on for your knowledge then you need to start to take a step back and shut up a bit more because the simple fact is that you actually don't know.

Any future questions about anything football related then I best contact Jon. But as you already seem to be in bed with Jon and take what he says is gospel what are the payment instalments, what was paid up front, how are they staggered in the future, what percentage did Stoke get, is there any sell on clause added to the deal, and what are the exact add ons and the conditions that trigger them? And where does this put Will in the salary pecking order? Shirt size and foot size would also be good knowledge to have.

Take a step back and stop talking nonsense, and someone else's guesswork at that.

Maybe worth offloading now if we’re contributing towards his wages, and not being here next season.

I think now that we’ve had the pleasure of watching a few very well-balanced full backs this year, we’ve seen for certain where the bar ought to be and that he was always some way short.

Lots to be said for how hard he worked but we’ve outgrown him and I’m sure he’ll be shifted in the summer along with a handful of others. Summer should bring along the last and most significant part of the deep cleanse that we needed.

Seddon was bloody useless.

We’ve already had to shed some of Manning’s crocks and flops, soon enough we’ll be looking to get rid of players signed by Des. There is no utopia where all the players at the club are fit and just right.

I think you're taking things a bit personally!

My post was about signing a 21 year striker on a "long term" deal for a club 4 points off the top was something to be positive about rather than a team in 13th and 19 points below us signing a 30 year old on loan for 18 weeks.

I don't need to have a photocopy of Goodwin's contract to come to this opinion.
