Has Hackett been confirmed? Nothing against the bloke but it’s strange to take that long and slightly worrying.
Yes.

I suspect they couldn’t close a deal and rather than go back out again, and further the timescale, they’ve given it to Chris, who wasn’t first choice but will have lots going for him.

I’m glad the uncertainty has been removed. Good luck to Chris.

Cheap option! Owners tightening the purse strings.
It could turn out to be a very good appointment. Knows the EFL well, knows the club well, knows the academy well - within which there is a pipeline of really good talent £300k+ of player sales in the past year. Is young and ambitious; whilst an experienced assistant could be good it could also be potentially undermining for DB with the group and with Craig Short staying the club has that experience and known quantity. He is also a very good coach and will see the job as as a real opportunity.

Do you think that the clamour for communication is fans wanting to hear more from our manager about prospective new signings?! That couldn't be further from the point, I feel like I hear from Des more than most members of my family. His job title should be Head Coach and Spokesperson.
I don't think people care who they hear it from, it just seems to me that some want hourly updates on everything, including - and specifically - transfers.

Again, I agree that Des has been as clear as he can be about what's happening and as the one who gets grilled at every press conference, he's the one who'll be the focal point for this. And I struggle to consolidate this with the apparent lack of information coming out of the club.

I'm not sure what the Board could bring to the conversation that isn't either a) exactly the same, but perhaps worded slightly differently b) seen by some as stepping on Des's toes, interfering in the football side of things, etc. or c) showing too much of hand regards transfers funds etc. Another 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' scenario.

And as I type this, 'A Message from the CEO' appears on OuFC.com...!

Surely it’s as simple as Des not being able to get a couple of assistants in - first one difficult due to visa, 2nd one was delaying / rejected contract. So they’ve gone with the option of someone already at the club who has been working with the 1st team.

Not ITK but surely that is what has happened. It’s a great opportunity for Chris Hackett.

I was hoping we'd get that typical 'opposite character to the manager' type of assistant just to bounce ideas of each other and question decisions. I don't know either personally but on the face of it they both seem very similar. Short too is another likeable, easy going character. I'm not saying it can't work but would have liked a bit of bite on the bench to offset Des's affable touchline approach.
