For a team mid to lower table (you could argue at a push on the very fringes of relegation trouble), their quality of Jan transfer dealings so far have been pretty darn good.

It’ll be interesting how many of their Jan signings start tomorrow compared to ours when we are already short on numbers and pushing for promotion!

Not trying to be negative just making an interesting point in comparison to aspirations etc…
You weren’t trying, but you succeeded 👍🏻

It always make me laugh that anyone showing the slightest touch of optimism is shouted down on here.

We've gone from being over the moon in picking up a top prospect that had been offered deals by other league one clubs, to distort because he's going to take a couple of games to get over a niggly injury.

We can't have a Marcus Browne at Portsmouth situation where we end up losing a player for 2 months. Why not see this as protecting a player for 80% of remaining games rather than missing 20%.

And it's not like we won't be bringing other players in. We'll see at least 2 loan deals for wingers/forwards and there is capacity in both the playing squad and budget to bring others in on permanent deals if the right people are available at the right price.

But maybe I don't care enough to get angry!

No, but I'm an optimist. That lack of energy and atmosphere at matches? That's caused by the Negative Nellys. Smile, we've signed a young striker on a long-term contract 😁

Absolutely bang on mate, the atmosphere at home games is s**t - Oxford Mail stand need to wake up, very very poor indeed and before some say it - Don’ t blame the stadium!

Interesting post, only a few days ago you said we need to focus on a first choice striker and we’re massively short of forwards, having only Harris and GO’D and nothing else.

We sign a striker who’s injured and you wonder why no ones too excited? I think you’ve answered that from your own posts earlier in the week. Now that’s what I also call nuts 🥜😂😂

If someone buys me a Nintendo GAMEBOY for Christmas in 1990, but I don’t get the batteries 🔋 for a couple of days, I still have a GAMEBOY to play with for the next three years.

Especially if they gave it to me 12 days before Christmas Day and said there’d be EVEN MORE gifts 🎁 to come

I think it’s just disappointment Scotch to be fair. We’ve waited a couple of years almost for a proper new quality striker, struggled through 25+ games this season relying by and large on Harris not getting injured and now we’ve got to negotiate 4 vital games in 11 days with no sign of anyone new who is fit to play. So yes it does seem like the Marcus Browne situation in a way, and whilst I agree about missing 20% for now, that could end up being more given no guarantee over availability in a couple of weeks time. Let’s hope that’s not the case.

I sincerely hope we bring in other players as we desperately need them. I just hope they are ready to play and make a positive difference now, as we’ve 15 points up for grabs by 3rd Feb and 24 by the 17th. These next 5-8 games will by and large determine what we are aiming for (autos or play-offs or slipping out of the race), we need quality players who can contribute immediately.

We all want the same thing re success on the pitch, but it’s difficult to be bubbling with positivity at this exact moment when 2 of our 3 signings to date in the forward areas aren’t fit to play when that’s what needed urgent attention on the 1st Jan.

And there was great demand for the Gameboy that year too!

It must have been even sweeter knowing that the spotty kid in salmon chinos down the road missed out on a Gameboy and ended up with a 3d Tomytronic instead!

Silly, divisive post. People aren't shouted down for showing optimism, bar by a couple at the other end of the spectrum. Claiming others shout them down is putting a negative light on anyone who has a genuine concern that we still only have Harris and are an injury away from having no striker for a handful of games. We may well still sign someone and I haven't seen anyone say we won't, but that's a reasonable concern. I can't speak for everyone else but it's not a criticism from me, if we rate Goodwin then you sign him even if he is missing a few games but the facts are it doesn't help us immediately and every point is crucial.

Agree with the Marcus Browne analogy. We absolutely don't want to rush someone back and make it worse. I wonder if you did a Venn diagram between people who thought he was an injury risk and we rushed him back with those who also think we're a bit light up front in the short term what you'd end up with, my money is there being quite a big overlap. Maybe it's sometimes right to air concerns rather than always assume everything is alright and not hear anything negative.

Excellent post.

It’s ok to want more than just a new player that has promise, but will not contribute to 25% of our remaining league games (best case).

We all want longevity and players that offer lots of potential, but, we also have a promotion to win THIS season. We have 4 huge games (2 against promotion rivals and 1 against a local rival) in 11 days. It would be nice to have our major signings available to contribute in these games. People being naturally disappointed that they cannot do so, is pretty reasonable I’d say.

With the situation with Goodwin yes in the future he could go on and be another Billy Hamilton with his size and everything but an injury nonetheless mentioned after we had signed him for put the dampner on the whole thing. As you said we definitely will be bringing in a couple of loans which might be worth it especially striker wise.
Who knows the club may even put a bid in for Jake Young at Bradford..
I was concerned because there are 12 points to play for before then end of the transfer window, we may be alright and get 12 points especially as 9 of those points are at home, and this period could be crucial for OUFC and potential promotion.

And all your mates were playing games and exchanging stories of the great time they had, whilst you were left playing Ludo and snakes and ladders whilst waiting for Woolies to open a few days later. By the time you got the batteries the games you had to play had been finished by your mates who’d now moved on to something even more exciting.

Playing devils advocate… if you could have had Ladapo or Goodwin, who’d you have chosen?
Oh come on! It's Ladapo, it has to be with where we are at this season. The guy led the line for a team that walked the league (and the team before that), knows exactly how Edwards and Leigh play, draws away defenders and is physical. It's a ready made deal.

I have lots and lots of confidence in Goodwin. But it's a risk. He has 6 goals. I'm sure he will be a great signing.

But he's nowhere near as nailed on as Ladapo is at this level. Plus Ladapo can play in January.

Used to have some time for you but this is negativity to a new level. Rapidly dropping to the Kip level

One is a 30 year old striker who is becoming a bit of a journey man at league 1 level and 1 is a bright, up and coming 21 year old who has brilliant potential.

So I would go with Goodwin all day long.
Have u been on the booze Steve? You liked Kips post saying nailed on Ladapo, then post a few mins later saying he’s a journeyman and Goodwin all day long 😂

🤣🤣 you don’t even know me!

People are allowed to be disappointed that our marquee signing of this window, to the tune of £400k+ cannot play in the next four games, at least.

Honestly, it doesn’t make it a bad signing at all. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone suggest that it does, but people are allowed to be disappointed.

Ones opinion isn’t more significant than another’s. If that means you have less time for me, then I guess I’ll have to try and sleep tonight. If I can’t, I’ll be sure to drop Kip a message.

Didn’t that t**t Robinson do that with Browne? He has to be managed it’s a minor quad let’s hope that’s all it irks and he’s managed and brought in when he’s fully ready.
Any player we could sign who’s not got an injury and could pick one up the first day he trains with us! Medicals aren’t black and white or an open and shut case.
