Sunderland Away

Having read had a little about Sunderland, I have decided to suspend my subscription to Horse and Hound, Country Life and Razzle and will be taking several bags of sovereigns in the back of the Roller to dish out individualy to the locals as we make our way to the ground.

I'll be wearing red slacks (shudder) in the hope of meeting Methane and will attempt to bond with him and see if we can bring him home to complete Project WE

I think this post pretty much sums it up:

"Two sets of fans with limitless mutual incomprehension about the circumstances of the other. It's a classic. Our stereotype of them is as inaccurate as theirs is of us."

Haha I'm not one to mock poverty but if you could see the places some of those posters are from you'd wonder how they had the cheek to comment on anywhere else. Peterlee, Easington and Horden where some of those posters are from give Jaywick a run for its money. Like I said in my previous post the forum has a real chip on its shoulder about anywhere they think is conservative, middle class or affluent (most of them will only associate Oxford with Oxbridge). East Durham and Teesside inhabitants have extortionate amounts of unemployed, substance abusers and people still living in the 1980s obsessing over trade unions with very insular views of Southern bias. That in itself isn't the problem but does result in a lot of inverse snobbery.

Being from the north-east myself I remember a lot of away day non-league and school football trips to some very choppy places. Tow Law, Murton, Peterlee, Consett, Crook and all the others...grim stuff indeed and we always got the s**t kicked out of us on the pitch as well.

Will Stewart Donald have a half and half scarf on? And no doubt Methven will be in all his glory wearing red and white stripes denying
He has ever supported OUFC.

Methven reached pinnacle idiot when he stated he had money on us to go down last season.
And then cashed out on his certain bet when it looked like we'd stay up. I can't quite believe he was dumb enough to proudly state he'd done it and then stated he had cashed out. Thicko!

Whereabouts are you from out of interest?
I'm not mocking poverty, I existed through it for years: a father who couldn't (didn't want to) find work, a mother who was too ill to work and ate nuts and berries foraged in the autumn to try and put some kind of meal on the plates of her 3 children. Far from incomprehension about how it may be to be poor in Sunderland. I live in one of the most deprived cities in England, I try and make things right for the people who work for and with me.

Do I care if some smoggie takes offense cos I wind them up a bit? No.

Will i continue to donate a aminimum 5% of my salary monthly to charity? Yes

Will I continue to sponsor children overseas? Yes

Will I continue to microlend to people interested in improving their position in life? Yes

Will I continue to post what are obviously ridiculous "opinions/statements" where some fool can't see it? Yes. Bantz, or whatever the word is now
Where've you been winding up smog monsters?
I wasn't meaning to offend you just stating that its a bit rich of people living in shitholes to be judging people from Oxford which most of them will not have any knowledge of

Just read through the posts on Sunderland’s forum about us and themselves, f*****g tragic, it’s depressing reading posts from people who have f**k all in life, no hope at all but live through a mid sized football club and refuse to accept they are in league one. I have more respect for the northerners who spend all their dole on fags and lard rather than waste it on a club who haven’t been relevant since the BBC paid a tuppence hapenny for the tv rights in the 1930’s.

Unless you are really into misery porn give it a swerve.

bit of a whoosh for you my smoggie buddy, I'm not offended, it takes much more than an internet forum to do that, especially the sort Charlie described this as

Not making it to Sunderland but going to Millwall v Swansea, my mates have a box booked so that should be messy !

Train prices were silly and I need to be in London first thing Sunday anyway

In fairness very few clubs outside the top 6 have any relevance nowadays other than Leicester a few years back. Not really a fan of the whole big club debate but did have a chuckle at one poster suggesting Portsmouth were a bigger club than us.

To hell with all the verbage about Stew & Charlie. I trudged up to Roker Park a fair few times but I can't remember us ever winning there. Although I do definitely remember that amazing win at the Manor in '75 when Nobby Clarke hit that 35 yard screamer with his wrong foot. Happy days.
But I've never been to the Stadium Of Light and now I've got my ticket and I'm setting off in the morning and making a long weekend of it. Only staying in a £35 B&B in South Shields rather than the Malmaison (sorry Pete) but I have a good feeling about this game.
