General New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Land Deal

I really don't know which word best describes Ms Campbell, deluded or desperate???

It has always been the intention to make the stadium "self funded" from day one. What this means, as anyone with a modicum of business experience or common sense will know, is that a certain amount of equity will be put in by the owners and the rest will be *outside finance. This outside finance is like a mortgage, and is serviced by the income from the stadium, and its facilities.

This is a balancing act whereby, just like a mortgage, the repayments have to be demonstrably affordable and also the repayment term has to be reasonable. A further element is that the repayments should still leave the club with sufficient income from the stadium to fulfil the club's aspirations. Our owners will guarantee this finance, rather than it being secured on the stadium. It does not mean that some shady loan shark will suddenly get their claws into our club and/or stadium. It's a perfectly normal set of circumstances for a major project of this type. It puts the club on a much sounder footing than at present, from day one, to the tune of £millions per annum. Also once the "mortgage' has been paid off and all of that income goes directly to the club, we will be even better off.

It also means that, even during the repayment period, the club has a substantial value to the owners, as it is in its own stadium, paying its own way, and will have a property asset once the "mortgage" is paid off. That is how the owners secure their investment, as they will have something of considerable value to sell if and when they move on.

Ms Campbell is trying to stir up doubt and unrest among the fan base and local residents, with her ludicrous ramblings, which is a bit rich for someone who has their house on the market and may not even live in the area when the stadium is built!

*Edit: Our owners have access to "outside finance" at rates the rest of us can only dream of.
Yes I guess that the only good thing about Ms Campbell's regular comments is that it does make 'friends' of SB look a totally amateur NIMBY group of people.
Some of her comments are ludicrous and it is quite clear that she is pretty clueless about the financing comments (amongst other things)
CDC must surely see these 'friends' for what they really are.
Lets hope Ms Campbell keeps writing tp the OM.

The Triangle is to be accessible from East Anglia:

45 mins for a journey that could be 20 is still a pain!
Club doesn’t exist if they don’t make public transport at the heart of any new development, not having a go but find a way and get there without a car if you are that worried. There will be spaces but the club shouldn’t provide anymore than 1000 spaces maximum and most should be for people who have disability issues. The rest of us have no excuse and transport links can and will be improved by the club. They have no choice & it’s right next to a train line.

I'm hoping OCC see them for what they are first.

I thought the club have mentioned only up to a maximum 500 parking places in the earlier blurb but that might be my imagination. And these wouldn't be for general parking but for disabled, club employees/players etc.

Even better imo. They have to take parking out of the equation as that will be one of the main factors against it. How the traffic will build up even though the road infrastructure will be able to cope much better than our current site.

Just think from an ecological and environmental point of view they have to keep to that. Remove as many hurdles that people want to throw at them as possible. Guess that’s why it’s taken a while to release details with wanting to make sure their application and designs are watertight to everything the council and CDC would want to approve a development of this nature.

Hire an e scooter up the Banbury Road over the roundabout Park up at Parkway after the match do the return route unless the stadium had a hub .

Hadn't had a chance to come back to this thread since the £100m announcement. Interesting that Brentford's stadium development which 'broke ground' in 2017 was £71m in total for a fairly comparable setup.

Given the type of quotes I've heard from tradesmen post-Covid, if it was £71m in 2017, I'm surprised we've not been quoted £200m in 2023!

Our friend, Victoria (Hi Victoria) wasn't too worried about spending £7000 of KPC residents money when they called for a pointless vote so I find it strange that she is suddenly worried about how the stadium will be funded.
Also Victoria, if you are that concerned about the club and worry that the finances could ruin the club, well guess what, if we don't get a new stadium the club will die regardless.

Have a good weekend Vicky.

Well said.

I think in the eyes of the powers that be, Radley is close enough to serve Abingdon. Plus it’s actually situated on the main line. Although the station itself could do with an upgrade, with more trains stopping there.
I believe Abingdon is one of the largest towns in the country to not have a railway station.
Left a village which now has a train station, to a city without one.

Thanks for the thorough explanation Colin. Maybe it’s something the club needs to explain publicly in the same way, as a few days ago it was something that caused me concern when the financing plans became clearer, others on here similarly expressed the need for clarification about the funding arrangements.

Those against the stadium will use everything they can to try and shoot down the club and its plans, so the clearer and easier to understand everything is, the better and it reduces the ammunition for the opposition.

And there are some doubters currently:

She's like a hungry hippo. Focusing her attention on the ball (chance) that will give her an opportunity to moan.

Hi Victoria!
