Transfer News Jamie Mackie signs!

Can remember seeing Mackie absolutely destroy us when he was playing for Exeter years back. Almost single handedly win the game for them with his work rate. He chased everything that night. Was really impressed with him. I remember reading about him shortly after, iirc he’s ex army too.

My mates a plastic fan and whilst in loan to them he rated him saying very similar to you!

Welcome Jamie!!

I don’t think this was KR 1st, 2nd or even 3rd choice option but we have obviously missed out on those (or could still happen). I hope he does well, just throwing it out there should we have kept Wes Thomas another season? Depends who else we bring in but I’m starting to think we should have!!
f**k no, not Wes.

Will Mackie get more goals than Wes did last season? I’m not sure he will and he will cost us more in wages. He might add something else other than goals to the team, time will tell. Unless we sign a proven goal scorer at this level sometimes it’s better the devil you know?

Thomas is a poacher, and being supplied by Payne he excelled. He offered nothing in the latter part of the season and was rightly released. Mackie is a different type of player and will bring others into the game. I know who I’d rather have.

I’m personally delighted with Mackie. He’s obviously not going to score 20 a season but I’m sure he will be key in getting 20 a season. High work rate, bags of experience and know how and tough. Exactly what you need at this level. Great signing

What’s the betting this season (despite his recent injury record) that Mackie starts more games than any one of Pekalski, Xemi, Mehmeti, Van Kessel, Tiendalli, or Williamson did last season?

ffs. I cant believe the negativity. My gut reaction was

IMO Wes needed to be played through the thirds, thus JPayne was a right player for Wes. No Payne. No Wes. KR plays down the channels, and focuses on crossing into the box. Thus IMO we still need a target man, with a big head. AKA The Bus or Trevor Aylott, who was my cult hero back in the day :) I am confident KR and SD, will get their man. I am impressed that Tiger is walking the walk and backing KR and SD. I really dont understand the (re)moaners. FFS lets stop this nonsense and back Tiger and the football club, and as a recent supper guest at BPalce/Woodstock said, "lets make Oxford Untied Great Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

er. no

Why all the moaning. KR knows all about Mackie's goal scoring record when he signed him so clearly he didn't sign him for that reason. Mackie will bring experience into a side that sadly lacked it last season. As the old saying goes: "With age comes experience" I'm sure a goal scorer is on the way.

Sorry I didn’t know having an opinion was banned on this forum. As for being boring. Your post was critical and dull without actually offering any counter points.

If negative thoughts weren’t sometimes positive Pep would still be in charge.

You are completely entitled to your boring and negative opinions, as am I.

Since Mackie from his record is not a prolific goal scorer than Robinson must have another use for him. My own guess is that he will be the hold up man at the front of a 4-2-3-1 formation.

It might of been a bit more prudent to wait until the transfer window closes before that post, you never know they might actually know what they are doing and more to the point what they are trying to achieve.

I doubt he has been bought in as a 20 goal a season man, so it is unfair to judge him as such. Maybe we are not going to be that type of team built around just goals from just up front, personally I like that. A team built to get goals from many players is harder to shut down.

What he brings is a wealth of experience and knowledge. We have a very young squad a player like this often if he plays or not makes a lot of difference to the other players (remember the return of Chris Hargreaves and the positive effect that had on the team).

If his work rate is what is mentioned it is something we have been missing last season. A player like that may not score many or create many but they motivate a team and tire out defenses creating room for others to attack.

I think this has a potential to be a very good signing for us. It will depend on his fitness and on how he is deployed but if this pans out a player of this type of this experience could be great in league 1.

I don't get the negativity if you look at the squad it is beginning to shape up well. There are still a few gaps to fill but it already potentially better than the pants we had last season (I would have swapped nearly all of Peps signings for a player with the potential work rate and English league experience of Mackie). A few more players and we could be a team with play off potential.

A bold strategy to try and win people over with quotes from Donald Trump.

I would/wouldn’t do that if I were you.
