Eastwood - 5 - A great save from Finley and probably not much he could have done with the goal, but his kicking was atrocious. It’s never been this bad, has it?

Long - 4 - Outmuscled, outfought. Being on our side in the first half, you could see the amount of 50/50’s he pulled out of. Moore bailed him out at least 3 times in that half, didn’t really get much better after half time. Unlucky with the header though

Moore - 7 - I thought he was good, battled well and won plenty of aerial duels. A shame he got booked for being fouled and dragged down, but what did you expect from a referee as inept as the one we had?

Findlay - 6.5 - Not quite as assured as Moore and some heart in mouth moments but as a defender who needs to defend he always does that job well. It’s just everything else that needs some fine tuning. Noticed he was really losing his rag with Seddon. A fiery, no nonsense Scot at the heart of our defence.

Seddon - 4.5 - Gets .5 more than Long because his work rate and engine is top notch, arguably our fittest player, it’s just the actual ability which lets him down. Offered us a bit going forward first half but final ball let him down, second half was pinned back and just kept hoofing it out of play.

Henry - 7 - Ran the show first half and was getting in behind loads, looked to have some of his pace back which was good to see. Linked well with Browne especially. Got doubled up on in second half and our general play noticeably dropped. Should have scored with the header, and agree with some of the comments here that it’s either him or Bodin to start, not both.

Mcguane - 8 - MOTM, by some distance. So so good in possession, strong in the tackle and was still pressing in the 85th minute. It’s the Mcguane we all hoped to see and I’m so glad these first few games he’s come into his own, long may it continue.

Brannagan - 5 - Just not at it at all, nothing really came off and he was getting wound up. No cause for concern because we know how good he is, but not hit his level yet. Maybe Mcguane playing so well makes him seem a bit off it too.

Bodin - 4.5 - Didn’t really notice him until he passed the ball into their keepers hands in the second half. Thought he’d have been well up for it today, rather disappointed with what I saw, needs to hit the heights of the end of last season quickly.

Taylor - 5 - Largely anonymous but produced some quality on the ball when he had it. If only he was on the end of the cross he put in to Henry. No service whatsoever so I don’t think the 5 rating is really his fault, not sure how he didn’t win us a free kick and get their player sent off? Looked clear as day from where I was standing.

Browne - 5- First half 7, 2nd half 3. Looked on it for the first 20 and he is deceptively an absolute monster, so quick. Had their left back on toast, then just went into his shell. He’s very much a moments player rather than a 90 minute player I feel, drifts in and out. Let’s hope he can find some in match consistency and be a threat for a more sustained period.

SUBS

Joseph - 6 - I liked the look of him, won a few headers and put himself about, don’t think he’ll score too many goals but he’s gonna give us a lot of energy and the ability to play much higher up against teams that sit back. Final ball/decision making was a bit off.

Goodrham - 5 - Looked like a boy in a man’s game, struggled to be honest.

Bate - 6 - Much like Goodrham but he did show some neat touches and looks a confident lad, I think he’ll be a good player for us.

Jones + Brown not really on long enough to make an impression.

KR - 5 - The initial set up was pleasing and we were really getting in behind at will to start with. However the subs let him down again, taking Taylor off was rather baffling to me, think we’d have scored if we had him and Joseph on as more space would have opened up. Should have hooked Seddon at half time with him on a yellow, suppose he didn’t fancy Brown to bomb forward.

Ref - 0 - The less said about that c**t the better

Haven't posted for a while but tried to keep an eye on the forum during a difficult year at home.

First game this season on Tuesday and quite looking forward to it. Sounds like we've not addressed all the key areas in the transfer window, so far, and have failed to hit the ground running a result.

Three 1-0 score lines in the league so are we close to being decent or imploding? If all three matches had ended 0-0 would opinions change?

Anyway, enough rambling and it's time to go back to shoveling the s**t which has plagued the last 12 months or so.

Hope things work out for you at home.

I agree that we could have easily played out three draws, whilst only expecting to beat Cambridge. So we have the 3 points that we've deserved so far, or 2 points less than expected.

Talk of a relegation fight or ripping arms off for a 12th place finish are massively premature. The next 4 league games are all winnable, and we could easily be on 15 points from the first 7 games and things will look very much brighter.

That's not to gloss over the performances which haven't been good enough. But there are 1000 posts on that so there's nothing more to add.

After a long, hot, drive back from Bristol I refrained from reading the board last nigh, as I knew it would only depress me further. Having now read through this thread, most of it has been said, so I'll only add one thing.

After a complete shitshow like yesterday's, against a team of shithouses, managed by a complete c**t of a man, the last thing I want to see is my manager walking off with his arms around their players' shoulders and laughing and joking with his "mate" Joey. There's having a bad day, and then there's adding to it by completely failing to read the room.

Not happy. At all.
I noticed that, not good at all

I have a very good friend who is BRFC fan and season ticket holder all his life and lives in Abingdon

He hasn’t been to a game since Barton took over, as you say he is a c**t of a man

Having slept on it, and replayed the nightmare in my head:

I think we need to take a risk and put McGinty in. I know he had a horror show first half on Tuesday, but I have more faith in him getting up to speed in this league than Eastwood suddenly turning into a sweeper keeper. Every time he was in possession, it got hoofed upfield and squandered.

I agree with others that we've looked to tighten up at the back at the expense of our attacking output. Findlay and Moore do look like a great central pairing, but I feel like everyone further forward is playing less creatively to avoid our fullbacks getting exposed if the ball is turned over.

It feels strange to say we've 'only' conceded 4 goals in the first 4 games, but there were spells last season where we'd have let in 8-9 in those sort of periods. But then we'd also bag 8-9 ourselves, rather than the 3 we have currently.
I have to disagree with you as far as bringing McGinty in is concerned. Eastwood has only conceded two goals in three games thus far. Surely that reflects the key component of his role. And how can you have more faith in a guy whom you've only seen play once and whose distribution during those 90 minutes was no more than OK? I think the weak distribution issue is equally emphasised by that fact that neither Moore or Findlay is comfortable in bringing the ball out of defence in the manner of McNally, Atkinson or Dickie.

Ten of our starting xi today were at the club last season. Should have had easily enough to perform far better than we did, and it’s nowt to do with the recruitment being slow.
They weren't good enough last year,& this year they seem worse already.

Sorry to hear that. Hope things are improving for you.
We all have one thing in common regardless of opinion we’re all yellows! Sometimes easy to forget what’s really important.
I hope the lads put a smile on you Tuesday night.

Hopefully for you things will get better, I'm sure everyone on here will wish you well.
Your post is a perfect example of what football is about for so many. (Certainly was for myself and Mrs L) It's an escape from the reality of day to day life. When things are not right we can turn to our football club for that 90 minutes of de-stressing and exuberant rejoicing in scoring, winning and so forth. And then things don't go so well on the pitch and it's not such a relief but, we tried, we were good but not quite there, we came up against a better team etc. In that perspective it's still not so bad and, there's next time to look forward to with confidence.
And then:

So, having played s**t and lost to a second rate club managed by a very unpleasant character, having stood in the sun all afternoon and having paid over the top for the privilege at a ground which ran out of drinks provided stinking portaloos and insisted on removing bottle caps on entry, we have to witness the above.
All this to then drive home through traffic in the heat, tired and uncomfortable. What solace does that provide to all those who see the game as their escape from day to day life?
How can that be reckoned into all the other expenditure that is normal life now?

FFS! OUFC Wake up!

What I thought was most telling was the empty stand at the end with most just leaving as soon as the whistle went, so not their to applaud the players.

It could have been down to the heat, but I felt it was mainly down to the overall performance. Having said that, I think most would have stayed if the performance/result had been different.

I like KR I think he's a decent bloke but I dunno if it's just me or what but I'm starting to get the feeling a bit like when the wilder era was coming to an end I'm wondering if he's taken us as far as he can BTW this isn't me wanting him sacked I'd like nothing more than him to get us promoted I just dunno if he can or will I dunno if it's all going abit dry

He does this alot and I'm at a loss to why. Maybe it's to deflect, to block any criticisms and inevitable mutterings from the pissed off fans when leaving the ground. By the shoulder hugging of players and false smiles he probably knows that the flak is mounting.

The game itself was a replay of Derby away but in a ground more mismatched than our old Manor ground and to the 700 or so on the terrace I hope you are not too well cooked this morning and are all well. Atrocious conditions for a 2022 stadium.

Now to yesterday. Our slick football has somehow disappeared and without a really quick player upfront we are desperately short and dare I say it we are somehow short of a ' fast winger' ahem.

The coach has got to put in some hours to get this team to work (by Tuesday) and he definitely needs a coach to help properly with this. This coaching isn't I'm afraid going to come from Craig Short. Someone has got to step in and say to KR that from last seasons goal fest we are heading for a drought fest (topical word I know). There were rumours we had a top retired striker looking at doing this but from the look of things this probably hasn't had any legs...neither did anyone yesterday!

JB...well he has certainly rubbed off his charm at the memorial and that includes not just the players using countless dark arts but this was even I guess used on the ball boys/girls too. It's not a comfortable system for many to watch happening but I do think we need a little shysters stuff ourselves at home at times and when we replay our home fixture with the pirates I do hope that instead of being stitched at the hip with Joey that KR if he's still here uses some reverse psychology forthwith just to show us that he can also be the pantomime villain too!
It's ok for a luke warm handshake at the end of the game but as CB has stated (I didn't see this love in as we were toasted and in need of shelter) this just isn't on so please KR cut this out as it makes for uncomfortable and embarrassing viewing and reading.

Please let the players loose on Tuesday and follow this practice up on Saturday and again down the A40 west at Cheltenham the week after especially after last seasons virtual non appearance.

COYY'S.

A home win on tues eve V Lincoln may help steady the ship..... and help to put yesterday's shitshow to the back of the memory banks

here's hoping

A bit like the Charlton fans who told us this would happen. It’s as if other teams have worked us out and he hasn’t got an answer to it.
I also like KR’s style of play and people can’t say we haven’t been entertained for the past few years, but I’m not sure he can take it to the next level

This Browne in midfield intrigues me as it doesn't seem to fit into a standard formation.
Last week started with us overloaded on the right with him, the winger and full back all on top of each other, then instead his clear enthusiasm to be involved and influential meant he started to roam more which meant others having to cover for him when we didn't have the ball.
work
I imagine the idea is to make use of him as a maverick but this may take a few weeks before we work out how best to determine players and their roles around him.
Will be interesting to watch ongoing...
Posted this just before kickoff, but think point remains valid, particularly coupled with comments others have made about tightening up at the back.
While the idea of a maverick MB running the show sounds attractive, it requires the right combination of five other players and roles to make it work, much of which may be unfamiliar, and that will take a long time to work out. (Not to mention the disruption if he is not playing)

For me, we (and he) will be better with him as one cog in a more familiar machine (eg front left of a 433). It may feel like underusing him but allows others to focus on their more familiar jobs.

Add bate into midfield with MM and Bran, then they can develop as a unit interchanging backwards and forwards as required, adding the extra stability we need defensively, but with more freedom to drive forwards as and when.

There must have been a 90 minute plan yesterday, but it felt like they pressed and pressed for the first twenty hoping they could score and shut up shop in the heat. Unfortunately they ran themselves out of it and Rovers mopped up.

Well said Colin.

People will remember me defending Karl in April/May, simply saying he absolutely deserved another crack but he had one remit, to address the problem areas that cost us again and build on what we had in the building. At the moment, in my view, he has really failed miserably at doing that (with the exception of Findlay for McNally who adds needed experience). I am sure he has had lots of challenges but likewise, I just sense the recruitment this summer has been just lazy.

He even came out last week in an iFollow interview last week to address the perception he is the decision-maker at the club and to dismiss everything has to be passed by him. All rather interesting.

He constantly reads the room incorrectly. His silly comments that we have done well in recent weeks, including yesterday, is just a slap in the face. We're absolutely dreadful. We have filled players around Taylor with players who have no pace (Marcus B the exception), we have, to date, no pace, energy up top. So not only did he not address the problem areas (full backs, pace to replace Sykes, holding midfielder, his decision on the keeper, support for Taylor), he has brought in players who have serious question marks over recent game time and injuries. I'd be giving him a 4/10 for the recruitment.

We all looked to October as the month of death. August could be the month of death.

We look a far worse side that last season. We seem to be a mirror image of another 'United'.

Eastwood - 6 - no qualms from me. A couple of really decent stops that many posters take for granted. We don’t actually have the defenders to play out from the back all the time right now, so can we stop the obsession with constantly playing short (see Man Utd yesterday). That said, his kicking long was a bit sloppy yesterday.

Seddon - 2 - Woeful. Positionally awful. Doesn’t ever smell the danger. Findlay and Cam having a pop at him yesterday. When he gets forward he delivers awful over hit crosses regularly. This needs addressing with quality ASAP.

Moore - 6 - A couple of great tackles and a couple of silly fouls. Steady game, but could’ve been sent off.

Findlay - 7 - very likeable no nonsense player. Reads the game well and firm in the challenge. Won’t play out if under pressure kind.

Long - 4 - Another bad game from Sam. Tried hard but looks off it right now. Needs to offer more of an overlap if we’re to succeed. Could see him losing his place soon.

Mcguane - 8 - A brilliant performance on and off the ball. Really dominated the battle with Finlay. Good to see him now doing more than just sideways passing. He’s driving with the ball and moving us through the thirds. MOM for me.

Brannagan - 5 - poor by his standards. Needs to do better but he will do so.

Bodin - 4 - very ineffective. Think he’s far better centrally. Not picked up where he left off last season.

Browne - 5 - Started the game tremendously and linked up well with Henry but after 25 minutes, he faded badly. He’s shown flashes of brilliance this season but is not affecting games enough.

Henry - 6 - Thought he was excellent first half. Linked well with others. Put in 2 brilliant balls with nobody getting on the end and then as the game wore on he got found out as they 2:1 him. Unlucky to be hooked given other performances. Had to score though.

Taylor - 2 - offered nothing. Didn’t run. Wasn’t in the right place at the right time. Really quite shocking from Matty.

Subs:

Bate offered nothing.
Jones offered nothing - not on very long.
Goodrham - Boy in a man’s game.
Joseph - Put himself about, won some headers, looked lively. Just lacked a bit of confidence and killer instinct. Might just be rustiness.

As it stands, this team won’t get play offs. Probably be 8-12th. We need players in and they need to be first teamers.

God knows why we’ve stopped pressing teams cos what I’ve seen this season is not working.

The selection was probably not right but I didn’t feel we were outmuscled, it was more lack of composure. If we’d stayed calm we would have had enough to win

I will never trust a person who can watch Steve Seddon's performance today and come to the conclusion that we don't need a left-back. Out of his depth doesn't even begin to cover it.
Ciaron Brown is much better, play him and an attack minded decent right back and we may be okay.

Keep doing what we've been doing and it will be a long frustrating season
