Transfer targets?

Twitter rumours that the striker could be Sam Baldock.... Would make sense, the baldock connection and MK connection to KR?

And also apparently a striker lined up..

“One team needs to buy a striker before we can have their striker on loan."

If the club in question needs to buy a replacement striker it seems to me that we're not talking about a Premier League youngster, I would imagine it is a first team squad player from a Championship/League One team who is out of favour at the moment.. A Matty Taylor-like situation at Bristol City.

What about someone like Ivan Toney? Whilst he wouldn’t be near the Newcastle 1st team, they would still need to balance their squad!

McMahon seems like a good signing. Between him and Norman, we've got a good mix of experience and youth at right back. Some will be disappointed to have missed out on Kane, but I wasn't as high on him as others seemed to be, so I'm not too worried about that. Once we have a first choice left back (it seems Ricardinho is long gone!), I think our defence will be sorted (assuming Nelson is staying).

I'll be interested to see who the loanee striker is. Currently we only have Obika as an out and out striker, and given his injury record we'll still need at least one more in addition to whoever the loanee is, and preferably on a permanent basis!

Also, the winger sounds promising but I won't start celebrating until they're on the official website holding the shirt, as we've been through the whole 'handshake' fiasco before. Again, hoping for a permanent signing, but sounds more likely to be a loanee given that their current club wants them to go on their pre-season tour?

All in all, it's slowly starting to look like things are coming together. I've firmly been in the 'wait until the window closed before judgement is made' camp, but interesting to see that even Robinson himself has said he'd have been a bit worried about the number of players we've got a few years ago.

My main hope now is that we sign some a proven goal scorer and a few more players in the Brannagan/Dickie mould (I.e. those that fit our recruitment model).

need me re than one more

Depends really. Robinson is quite well known for preferring a lone (not loan) striker and a number 10 in behind (Henry). In that case, three strikers might be enough, especially if you consider the likes of Hall and Napa to be able to play up top of required.

Maybe but we have had problems with playing a loan striker up front, it never seems to work

Bit of a strange one that, he goes with a club on tour and then we can have him and this achieves what exactly?
Far better he trains and plays with his "new" team mates surely?
Strikes me as another one of those we're not in control scenarios.

Especially if we can improve the supply with people like Henry, Hall, Carruthers (and Graham??) marauding down the wings....
I agree, not a huge fan but guess it depends on getting the right player for the role. We've tried it with the likes of Thomas and it hasn't worked, but doesn't mean it can never work.

My take on it is that the prem team have players at the World Cup and need cover for the tour whilst the World Cup players have a rest.

Or it’s a relatively new manager that wants to see him for himself, despite knowing he won’t feature in first team plans

Just seen someone make a good point on Twitter. Cardiff signing Bobby Reid today. Could Omar Bogle be the striker? Were rumours of him early this month.

I don’t think we’ve had the striker to ever play it being the problem rather than the formation. Tyrone Barnett probably came closest

Still think we will go budget big on one striker

We asked about Bogle and Lyle Taylor so that sort of calibre.

If Kr continues with his 4-2-3-1 it would certainly make sense to load up on that ‘1’, gambling that he’s going to get you the bulk of goals

With Carruthers and Henry in the ‘3’ Behind it is potentially a very busy attack.
