General New Stadium Plans - Stratfield Brake

It hadn't dawned on me that one of the stumbling blocks here is not the stadium site itself but the rest of the development also mooted to take place in Kidlington. If the parish councils and local residents can't oppose the housing, they may turn their attention to at least stopping the stadium.

The argument in return could be 'X more houses on SB = Y number of people and Z number of cars or a stadium with 0 residents that will be busy 30 odd times a year' which may sway a few around.

I also get annoyed at the phrase 'green space' as though having trimmed grass fields is enough. Green fields are ecologically useless and the stadium plan will aim to enhance biodiversity and the natural environment so it would be hope to more flora and fauna.

I don't really see why Kidlington wants to stay so independent of Oxford either. Joining it up with Oxford always looked likely to have at some point. It isn't a picturesque village like Burford so isn't there some logic that it has better connectivity with the city? Maybe I'm missing something with the village psyche that they have ...
Uh isn’t Burford a town? Sorry, carry on

What are the views on how worrying this is?
Very worrying in my opinion. I don't think there's anything OUFC can say that'll convince them this is a good idea for Kidlington, they seem unconvinced currently.

My other concern is that parish councillors are community spirited people who should be applauded for the time they spend serving their community. But they are volunteers who when they signed up to be a parish Councillor probably thought they'd be dealing with the usual mundane local issues and not one of the biggest, most expensive, high profile non-university development proposals the county has ever seen.

My concern is they'll lack the expertise to understand a proposal of this scale and value and their lack of understanding will cause them concern and their concern will lead them to reject OUFC's request so they don't have to deal with it. Lets hope they prove me wrong.

Can anyone over-ride the Parish Councils?

Parish councils don't decide planning applications, the district council do which is cherwell. 4400 houses approved by cherwell Council and they were opposed by the parish councils.

But they'll need to decide if they're willing to relinquish their current lease of Stratfield Brake to allow OCC take control who'll hopefully then let OUFC apply for planning there.

Cherwell district council hold the lease, parish council run it on their behalf.

CDC sub-let to the parishes. Not the same thing, and more problematic.

We have to remember that every organisation will be jockeying for position to ensure that they both protect themselves and, in the event that the development comes to pass, benefit to the max.

So on that basis they don't make the decision and can't stop it?

Wasn't that meeting yesterday to vote on wether discussions should continue with a view to transfer the lease to oufc subject to planning? Wasn't subject to if the parish council/ district council would upheld their lease?

If its sub let to the parishes it will only be on a short term lease .This was why Mr Middleton was angry that occ was giving a 250 year lease to oufc as its basically selling it.

Strictly a lay opinion here but I'd have thought it was nothing unexpected.

It would be pretty negligent of the parish councils to be falling over themselves in support at this early stage and I don't think any of the concerns they raise are entirely unreasonable either.

I'm sure he said the term ran to 2097 for all parties.

Come on, it's a bit funny that Reading keeps on trying, and failing, to become a city. Isn't it?

True, but it’s made funnier by how little it really matters. Have you ever thought your life would be better if where you lived was a city/town/village instead of what it is?

I haven't.
