Really? That's a very generous way of looking at things. If there is definitely a left sided free fee coming in then that's a plus of course but deciding that a part time midfielder coming is going to be worth millions is wildly optimistic. As things stand we've got 4 defenders in the whole squad, if you exclude Mous who's basically retired. I'm hopeful well bring in reinforcements but as it stands I'd class it as a disappointment, baring in mind we've lost Thorniley which you didn't mention.

It was only a couple of games a go a few fans had sold off Sykes. He wasn’t a team player all of a sudden.

The timing is a ballache but if we have a unsettled player who we all know would jump at any chance to improve his lot, then selling is the obvious thing to do.

Maybe an unpopular view. I’d rather keep him if we can.

Four games in hand of third, Rotherham are second. They have 2 in hand of Rotherham as well, so your point most definitely still stands however.

If we kept some cash and both signings were permanent, yes. But it is very unlikely.

With Syko reportedly turning down contract offers from us, then anything matching the sum paid for Oisin (£150k?) would be a good deal. I like Sykes, but it appears he’s moving on - now or in the summer.
At least it’ll be too late for tomorrow’s game and Herbie can slot straight in without upsetting Marcus.

As others have said , Sykes going for a fee has a positive side given he will be free in a few months - rather keep CB of the two anyway - but losing both this late would be very poor show
