Transfer News January 2021/22 Transfer Window

Have Charlton not learnt their lesson, jumping in on one of our attacking MF targets and gazumping us..... Remember Marcus Maddiston that didn't work out too well for them!

Just Googled to see what happened to him. Interesting read.

Well Rangers are a lot better than us, those players might still be good for us despite not getting into their team. Stop me if I’m being too technical.
Barker was a show pony when he was with us. As many have observed, he wasn't a team player and only made an effort when he felt like it. We don't want a player with that attitude on our books. Doesn't look as if Rangers do either.

Do you not think we would do exactly that if we could?!?

We’re not just sat around saying “let’s just wait until deadline day, for a laugh, it’ll be fine”

January is a tricky transfer window to get the right deals done, as teams will be losing players halfway through the season, so will need to make sure they can replace them or at least cope without them, before committing to letting them leave.

Personally, I’d scrap the January transfer window all together, as it just causes too much disruption. Teams had all summer to get their squad right, and that should be that.

It would be more enjoyable that way, as you’d know exactly what the squad was all season, just allow clubs to build bigger squads over the summer, then players could dip in and out of form, injuries could be dealt with, and the whole squad plays their part, without the disruption and anxiety of who you might lose halfway through the campaign, and risk derailing the season.

But the scummy money men wouldn’t ever allow that, so here we are…
In the times before transfer windows there was constant disruption and speculation, with clubs losing players at any point during the season.

Whilst January windows aren't perfect, I still think they have their benefits, especially for players. In form players can rise whilst they're in form and their stock is high, whilst out of favour players can move on in the search of more game time. It also allows clubs to offload players who're sitting on a wage and not playing, and means they can run with slightly smaller clubs, saving money.

If it were for the money men at the big clubs, they'd scrap the windows altogether and just buy players whenever they can.

Barker wasn't, and if he can't get into match day squads playing against league opposition which is of a similar quality to us, then you have to question their suitability.

Couldn't agree more, one of the most frustrating players I've watched, clearly talented but talent is nothing without a good attitude, I hope Robbo is put off signing these types again

Barker looked limp and toothless at the weekend in a cup tie vs a Stirling Albion team having a woeful season in Scottish League 2, even by their own less-than-lofty standard.

He’s not getting into league squads vs oppo MUCH poorer than Oxford. Major yellow flag.

If I remember correctly, Barker was a last-minute signing that Robbo had not expected us to really have a chance on getting, but pounced on when it did materialise as an option last minute. Perhaps this is why not as much research/face-to-face time took place to look into his attitude before signing on the dotted line?

Yep, Nicky Cadden was expected to complete in the summer and provisional conversations took place between representatives with the player certainly open to a move. I suspect that the price was top end and we saw Billy Bodin as a better short term fix with the expectation of bringing Cadden in on a free in the summer. It will all come down to money, and FGR are in a great position to cash in on promotion so he won't come cheap. But the fact that we were looking at a permanent deal for Browne shows that the money is there.
I did wonder about Cadden. I recently watched Class of 92 (documentary on Salford City) and they showed a player recruitment meeting with Ritchie Wellens. Caddens name was brought up and Wellens dismissed it saying he had already agreed to go to Oxford.

Just because the opposition aren't so good, doesn't mean that his squad mates who are keeping him out of the matchday squad are only League One standard. Them being better than him does not necessarily mean that he is not a very talented player.

Maybe having splashed the cash for Palmer they might splash the cash for Cadden
