Oh the Rink is going to be a huge pain. The Council, are in a messy situation with the rink, they've verbally communicated to outside the council ecosystem that they want it gone and they want to develop Oxpens entirely. They've not admitted this to the staff, the operators or users. This has left them unprepared and disorganized, which is to be expected. They didn't really think folks would be that bothered.
And just after putting in new LED lighting ;)

Personally, I think moving the ice rink to Stratfield Brake is inspired. One sporting site with hotel, conference, concert etc locations over a purpose built site with excellent transport links and all designed for multiple use makes this a mouth watering location for promoters, sporting organisers etc. The then vacant lots at Oxpens, Grenoble road and potential land at Exeter Hall, Kidlington, would be very attractive for housing.
There are, without doubt, some very clever people behind all of this.

Best day for me was the Oxford 2 Swindon 0 game when Beano was sent off after about 10mins at 0-0, then we scored twice in 5 mins then defended for our lives for 75mins - the whole day from the buildup in a packed Priory through the game and the celebrations afterwards, the club and fanbase were as one that day. Losing The Priory was a big loss, closest thing we had to a Supporters Club.
I was also there, although I'd forgotten all about the red card. The incident which I remember most is Swindon hitting the bar with a shot in the second half. As this match had kicked off at noon, I took the opportunity to watch Abingdon Town v Flackwell Heath afterwards and doing this the hard way by walking (very quickly) to the Redbridge bus stop and catching a bus to Abingdon, arriving at the Culham Road ground about 15 minutes before kick-off.

You mean EVEN more appealing, house prices shot up after Parkway was built, imagine if they get all these facilities!

Move over BBL, they will become the new envy of the City!

It's been mentioned here that Populous are likely to be the architects and design may similar to that of Minnesota United's 19,800 capacity stadium that opened in April 2019. So I've spent all of ten minutes googling it!

Firstly, the stadium shape and roof is similar to the masterplan we saw on Monday, see Google earth below.

Secondly, another reason why it's design, materials and construction techniques may be copied with tweaks for Stratfield Brake is that it took only 20 months to build! [emoji54]

The Populous built Allianz Field (19,400 capacity) definitely looks very similar to the stadium 'plan' in the proposal document... maybe they just did a cut and paste.

It has the open corners shown. As for steepness of stands and proximity to pitch it doesn't look too bad. Also looks like it has safe standing seats behind the goal??

There would be an uproar if Exeter hall and the surrounding part of Exeter hall was used for housing.

Yeah look pretty perfect to me. And as I said quick to build ao could be a winner.

It's been the plan to relocate ice-rink
& Develop the so called west end /oxpens for years
Westgate shopping centre was phase 1 phase 2 oxpens, osney mead plus train station

There are plans in hand for development which, if you had read my recommendation earlier in this thread and also in the synopsis thread Summary of the new stadium thread you would know. Here it is again Kidlington master plan.
The facts are that both Kidlington and Cherwell authorities recognise the need to move forward and improve housing and community with amenities and a more sustainable environment.

Sure are ;)

Having been a little bit negative in the first instance (and sleeping on it) I think I'm probably now in the very excited camp having seen the initial blueprint and some of the subsequent information that's been released.

From Abingdon the routine has always been bus to St Aldates, drink in town, bus/taxi to Blackbird, drink and game. In theory it won't be any different to now really. I do hope that the 'presence' of OUFC fans is increased in the town centre as a result of the move. This would be a good improvement. Aside from some of the bigger occasions it's always just felt like a Saturday in there. I do find it kind of amusing that some who made out that the journey to the current ground was so difficult that now getting a bus to the station, train and walk is much easier! (I'd imagine it wasn't so much of the journey but travelling to the sh!t hole we've had to call home for 20 years). If that is the case then it can only be a benefit!

You'd like to think that All Blacks and Kidlington CC will see a commercial opportunity here too and open up any bar areas they might have. It also wouldn't be a huge surprise if they opted for parking on their fields. There's a school adjacent to Twickenham who do this and charge £5 or something similar.

If they can create some form of L1/Championship appropriate fan zone akin to some of the larger grounds (again thinking Twickenham and Wembley) adjacent to either the East side or North East side then that would be great. Guess we'll have to wait and see with this going through and then some of the architects designs!

Anyway definitely looking forward to it! After successive failures this really does feel like we're going on a journey (which won't end in financial ruin) and will leave us with a ground and club to be proud of! (I'll have still preferred it at Dalton Barracks haha )

Bringing the sports elements all together is both smart and really exciting.

Back when we played at the Manor, I would often stay in Headington for food and then go and watch the Oxford Devils play basketball at Brookes.

Were the Ice Rink to move, I’d definitely be keen to stay all day with the family for football-food-hockey - think of all that lovely spending councillors!!

A number of articles on the Oxford Mail Website today discussing everything.

The first is from a resident of East Oxford (?) with a number of points. https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/1...nited-fans-wont-get-train-new-stadium-letter/

The points in question are indicative of someone who doesn't know the club, the situation (such as mentioning the priory), and the facts around traffic. It's very specualtive, but an indication of what will come from a number of residents. The resident in question is a member of the Oxford Civic Society who essentially reject anything.

The second post is an overview of a number of groups: https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/19841586.green-belt-concerns-oxford-united-stadium-site/

Campaign to Protect Rural England oppose it (shock).

The Oxford Liberal Democrats are fully behind the development (a genuine shock).

The rest is about traffic and the greenbelt. I honestly, having had a chance to look at some traffic flows for the croudace home development, can't see us having massive issues on the traffic front, providing the parking at the ground is minimal and a number of P&R's are run from Eynsham, Pear Tree, Redbridge etc, with train stuff too.

they, and similar preservationist organisations were absolutely useless in adding weight to protect the now derelict grade 2 listed Priory a few years ago

cheers for the links etc @Fanatica ..... there will be similar nimby opposition pontificated as the situation develops methinks

We’ve had some cracking moments at the kassam but it’s never felt like home to a lot of fans. I think we have never had a true home advantage for this reason….oh, and because it’s cold lifeless 3 sided shothole.
