General New Stadium Plans - Stratfield Brake

They will certainly need to look at the travel arrangements for those from the eastern side of the county. Currently three or four of us nip down the M40 from Chinnor - a round trip of approx 40 miles. With the free parking, that costs around 6 quid in petrol.

A day return ticket from Princes Risborough or Haddenham Parkway is (currently) £12.80. There is a rail link bus to PR for £3 return (each) but that doesn't run Saturdays or after 6:30pm during the week. There is no direct link to Haddenham, the combined tickets for the two journeys is £7.20 return (each), but again, no evening service. Car parking at the station is cheaper in any case when there are three travellers @ £8.50.

So from currently coughing up a paltry £6 we would be looking at nearly £47 for the sustainable alternative. The extra mileage to SB will make it a 60 mile roundtrip, but with the park and ride charging £2 (wonder how long before that trebles......), I think we will have little choice but to continue with the car - and I know of at least four other ST holders that make the same trip from our village every game.
Looks like you may not be able to park at the actual ground, but at the nearby Park and Ride - so you wouldn't have to change your habits much.

I was referring more to you saying 16k is better than 18k.

18k seems a perfect size to allow for the inevitable new ground increase, coupled with, hopefully, Championship football.

Certainly won't need a 3x increase to go from a current regular 7-8k with occasional 10k crowds.
Exactly, we don't want an MK situation do we?

Further footnote for any angry parish councillors - I would happily use a park & ride service, and it knocks 18 miles off my journey in my horribly polluting 2.4ltr truck.

Greta will be happy.

However, if we go over to vegan or "plant-based meat substitutes" that's me out.

The stadium is primarily for local supporters, not guys from the Midlands who take in the occasional match.

It’s not a bad point you make, I moved away four years and it’s an hour 10 drive back to the ground, lucky enough to be able to park at my cousins in greater keys but I don’t bother with away games anymore as home games are enough money /effort. New ground will be better for me by train but not by car, at least it will be a few beers and a better day out though.

But you could can’t build a stadium perfect for the likes of me and Essex, it has to be for local people to grow the support, I am not going to be bringing a load of people with me, there is no market in Hampshire where I live to build support for Oxford United but there is in Oxford/shire.

Being an exiled supporter is a choice, the club can’t do much to improve the UK transport network so I either suck it up or don’t go, a new ground will be built to optimise support from the local area.

It's strange but this announcement and the chat on here has made me quite emotional. A positive, ambitious proposal for the people of the city rather than yet another multi-million pound investment in the university or for tourism. Maybe all the crap over the last few years and amount of division there seems to be everywhere has made me go soft. Football: so silly and trivial on the surface but...

We average what 7 500 at the Kassam in L1.
I reckon that even at the Kassam, if we get promotion the average will increase to 9000 to 10000.
At a new Stadium away fans could increase from a maximum of what 1700 to 4000? Plus the new stadium bounce ( is it unreasonable to expect this to be 2000?)
If we were in the Championship I can't see the average bring lower than 12000 ( unless we are bottom by miles) and could be a lot higher.
Agreed, hence 16-18k is a fair ceiling and keeps the stadium nice and busy.

Park & ride at Oxford parkway,
Would have to be extended .not big enough for shopper's, day tripper's & footy fans aswell.

I expect the club will be considering transport links when the time is right. Don't forget that if you're on the OUFC database then they'll know your current postcode. They should also know how often you attend fixtures, so should be able to do some modelling for where support to Kassam is coming from at the moment and where it will be going to Stratfield Brake from (assuming we don't all start buying houses in Kidlington over the next 4 years).

Once they start grouping together areas of current support, and as importantly, potential support, then they could investigate how to get those supporters up to the new stadium.

All in good time of course as they will have far more pressing matters for now, like which cheeses to stock in the fromagerie and where to locate the Jack Midson statue.

I know that we are very fortunate in having the current parking facilities at the Kassam and at least for us, the access just couldn't really be better. We've had twenty years (and 5 more to go) of being spoilt by the simplicity of attending a game and the thought of having to do car/train/walk combination is a bit bothersome - it's going to be a bit of a culture shock, but I'm sure we'll adapt, find the best deals and make a fist of it. I'll be pushing 70 if the stadium completes on-time, so we might even qualify for a blue badge by then.......

There will be buses etc I'm sure.

I do think there needs to be more parking at or near the ground than is originally proposed.
If there is more at or near the ground, it will likely be rejected, the reason this has a chance is because the club have committed to making sure their is less car travel to the stadium & imo that’s a good thing and that is from someone who doesn’t drive & even if I did I wouldn’t mind using public transport & the infrastructure will no doubt be in place by the time the stadium is built.

A sustainable, locally grown meat burger will have a lower emissions footprint than any avocado based chemical mess.....:poop:🥑
Agreed

You'll just be paying £20 extra for it as a "premium" product.

And there are things other than avocado that count as non-meat you know! (although we know how excited you get about them).

Yeah it will be massively less convenient for me, but hopefully a better all-round experience. Plus I'll be retired so will have nothing else to do!

Would cycling it be an option? Straight down Iffley Road and then up Banbury Road. Less than 40 minutes to Kidlington Sainsburys according to Google. Oxford is a city that is well set for cycling after all.

Is that a peak fare though? For a Saturday, a return from H&T to Oxford is £6.70 a return so fairly reasonable.

Herein, lies the benefits and problems of public transport especially in a fairly rural county such as Oxfordshire. It won't suit everybody. Some may find public transport a convenience and a reasonable cost to pay in order to leave the car behind, some will find it a pain having to join more dots with the costs racking up like you seem to.

The best bet may be taking turns as designated driver and driving a group of you to H&T or PR from Chinnor every other Saturday and taking the train from there. It would cut down the 60 mile round trip to 10-15 miles at most and a group of you could make more savings on tickets.

(Psst. I can tell you the free places to park in Haddenham too. Don't be ripped off at the station!)
Loving this - 48 hours ago there was lots of scepticism and worry about where we’d play in the future. Now we’re already into the minutiae of if a trip to the shiny stadium in 5 years time might cost a few more ££, what a super problem to have 😆

You will be surprised how many OUFC fans there are in Hampshire. I know of at least a dozen around the Pompey area alone. Then maybe thats because its a naval area and people move and the settle like i did.

Current prices are probably pretty pointless examining as has been said, it will be an entirely different industry and operator set-up come the day this stadium is actually open.

You'd hope that also by the opening date, that additional service patterns into Oxford Parkway will have been added or at the very least, better connection times at Oxford for those having to change.
By then new East West rail link should be opened so my son can jump on at MK, I’ll jump on board at new Winslow station to join him them straight to Parkway for several beers before game. Makes all the road closures, collapsing bridges, pot holes, dodge the tipper trucks, etc all worth it! (Unlike HS2 crapiness). 🍺 🍺

I live in Kidlington&
I don't drive.
I go to see my parents in woodfarm every week, by bus.
It takes me between 1&a half to 2 hours to get there. Can get to London quicker.
Got to get two buses , which is £ 4.30
Can't see a quicker way by bus, unless it goes round the byepass.everyone knows what a nightmare that is aswell.
A big big chunk of our fans are from east Oxford. Unless Cowley train station is reopened, can see it being a problem to get to
I'm sure that there will be football special buses that will serve Littlemore, Blackbird Leys etc
