General New Stadium Plans - Stratfield Brake

So I like Wallop feel vindicated. The ITK folk shot us down. It has been Stratfield Brake all along as per the info I was given in Dec 2019.

Quite a few of us knew about Stratfield Brake very early doors, was doing the rounds in the pubs as Oxfordshires worst kept secret. Made amusing reading seeing the "ITK" gang peacocking like the feathered residents of Nuneham Courtenay, some trying to keep it a secret, others imitating the plumage in the hope to look as impressive!

I have to say that on the one occasion I visited Chesterfield in their new stadium, I quite liked it. Whereas I dislike the MK stadium quite a lot. Agree with your like of Rotherham's place though.

I am sure they are considering all aspects, but just a quick plea for us exiles who *have* to drive to the stadium. While there are a whole lot of things wrong with Grenoble Road at least there is enough parking on all but exceptional match days. (The exits are another matter of course!) While I have no real hopes that I will be able to park within 100m of my turnstile entrance as I can at present in the East car park, exiles and away fans *do* need a place to park. Presumably the park and ride is going to be the place - so let's have lots of coaches/busses running between there and the stadium (and consideration given to safe walking routes from there as well).

Without going into a tangent on best and worst away grounds, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with any of those stadiums I mentioned. In fact, the Keepmoat and new Plough Lane are far better than Belle Vue and Kingsmeadow for watching a game. I mentioned them as grounds that simply didn't feel any different nor live long in the memory. Go in the away end at Shrewsbury or Chesterfield and both are essentially interchangeable. Good legroom, good views and perfectly acceptable but essentially concrete and blue seats nonetheless. Outside of the game itself, I recall nothing else about the experience. Stadium: MK stood out for the sheer size and the great squidgy seats. If they could actually fill it, it would be a great place to visit more often.

Whilst sustainability will be at the heart of what comes next (it'll be mandatory anyway as various development and environment/sustainability bills go hand in hand nowadays), you're right on the parking. Many won't be giving up the car and spaces will be needed for the other facilities we'll have on site. Getting cars out of the site shouldn't be the logistical headache that it is at the Kassam. Leeds and Reading's approach is incredible in that they essentially shut off some local roads after a game. With both having out-of-town grounds, visiting by car is the most popular method and clearing them is a decent operation. I reckon we were away from both within 15 minutes of the final whistle which was very impressive. It can be done.

For the people of Oxford itself, we should be doing our bit by walking, cycling (no bike racks of any note at the Kassam nor would you fancy leaving one there either) and taking the bus to the new ground. If you can, leave the car at home. You can drink more then!

So Scotchers now this is out there
What was our first choice?

Does it really matter. You’ve asked tirelessly for as much info as possible, and now you finally know what the boards plans are, you still don’t seem satisfied.

Stratfield Brake has always been the powers that be’s choice. There was three other locations identified, but that doesn’t matter at this moment in time.

Some people will never be satisfied unfortunately

You're right, Stratfield Brake has been spoken about for a long time, including the time when Charlie was talking up Water Eaton. At the time I posted, we had at least one other site that we were looking at, and I felt that would be the one we went with, hence my post.

You'll also be aware that world events changed hugely in early 2020 and that changed the picture significantly. I won't apologise for getting things wrong as I've only ever presented anything as I've seen it at the time.

But if you want to score points then jump right in.

For whats its worth the 2nd paragraph is incorrect but like you say what difference does it make. It is decided now.

Malc,
Can’t you just book a seat lower down? I’ve got a pretty bad heights phobia so tend to plan my visits to other stadiums quite carefully.
Well no. I was using a friends season ticket because he became a director of the club,

Yes. But I meant they don't bring anything to the table in regards to people who already live in a home close by. Take the North abingdon development 1000 homes going either side of Tilsley Park. When Tilsley was built there was a condition any building couldn't be over a certain height ( less then a 2 storey house) that's why the leisure centre had to build the other side of abingdon, all those people who bought homes across from tilsley in the 90s were told nothing could ever built over there , you will have a field, woodland view forever. Roll on less then 20 years and 3 storey homes going up all around tilsley. Planning has changed a hell of a lot recently.
It has a hell of a lot it will happen but it will take time.

I was going to say if a letter had been sent to the existing sports club on the land, then surely all parties knew it would become public before long.
If the 4pm embargo this afternoon is/was correct, then it got pretty close to the deadline really.
