Hull were champions last season centre half’s 23 and 20 years old
Blackpool 21and 27
Peterborough’s last game 24,18,25 year old back 3.
Even Ipswich who are going for it this season have signed
Edmundson 23 from Rangers,
to go alongside Woolfenden 22 and are still after Lewis Gibson 20
A fee for a 31 year old, Peterborough won’t be doing us any favours.
Why use Peterborough's last game rather than the 45 before that? Last season Ipswich had Chambers 35, Wilson 32 and Nsiala 29. Sunderland had Flannagan and Wright, both 29. Lincoln had Walsh playing a big chunk of games at 29.

Also, 31 for a centre back is far from being too old. Season before last, Mous played a load of games at 33.

Think signing an experienced central defender makes perfect sense. The teams broadly the same as last season, Seddon for Ruffels seems fine, if we were to get Whyte then I’d suggest Whyte/Holland is an upgrade on what we had last season based on performances for Oxford. That would really just leave Atkinson to replace with the same quality, which is far easier for us to buy at 31 than 21. It’s not like the team is particularly old either and wouldn’t benefit from more experience.

Beevers is obviously enormously proven at this level and I think probably played for KR at MK, so why not him.

Beevers took a paycut with this latest contract believe it or not, which no doubt left a sour taste either way. He was their captain and with Atkinson in the div 1 team of the year. Darragh Macanthony is no doubt a horrible man to deal with. I imagine he said at your age you should be glad of a 3 year deal. Stevens was given a 3 year deal but doesn't guarantee he isn't leaving 2 months later

New players arriving offered championship wages, you should be earning which you have earned by great performances the previous year must really pee him off. After Mullin signed for Wrexham anything is possible

Be nice if we could get him or someone of his calibre. We can't afford to have a slow start again so we need a new asap
Do we though? McNally is no mug. Of course, we need more depth in defence, but we are in much better shape than we were at the start of last season! I’m sure people were doubting Atkinson, and look how that went 😅

I can see Beevers coming to us.

I hope you are right but based on what evidence?

He’s played 50 games in the LOI and not all of those in the top division - a gulf of class between that league and L1. Imho we can’t rely on his potential at this stage without proper back-ups in case he has problems early on.

Maybe beevers insisted on a release clause as negotiations were protracted. Robbo took him on loan at mk. If he isn't guaranteed a start at his age he might want to leave. Sykes might be going the other way. I agree it would be very unlikely but who knows in football

Atkinson had only played National League level, and I’m sure the League Of Ireland is a better standard than non-league in England. He turned out okay, didn’t he? I agree, we need an experienced CB through the door, but if it takes until the 14th to get Reeves then I’m sure McNally will step in until then!

So your knowledge on Sykes going the other way….based on what?

Nothing, other than he is the type of player peterborough might go for. He's young with a possible resale value. He is also into his last year so either way, something has to be decided
