I’d rather we waited for the ownership change to happen anyway if that’s imminent, could well change the calibre of player we’re able to afford
No because it’s the same people funding any deals, the same people have been backing us for a long time now, the man in charge may change but I don’t think that changes our budget drastically.

Exactly this, the players we will be after will have been decided between the new(ish) owners and Robinson if the deal is as imminent as most believe it to be. This isn’t a completely new lot coming in out of no where, I wouldn’t expect to see a huge change in playing staff budget (at least for this season).

I would also assume there’s not much if any wiggle room in our budget to facilitate an increase, until we own our own ground or pull off some shady sponsorship deal like all the big boys do I think any drastic increase is out the question. I also wouldn’t want it look at the last time we tried to make a statement signing we ended up with Hanson. Stick to the plan it’s working well so far.

KR did say there's been an increase in budget this season didn't he?

He also referred to this season as being big for us.

This was posted in the consortium thread. I would assume that some of this ‘new money’ is to cover the running costs and losses from 2020. It appears that there is definitely money for an increased budget, and KR has mentioned this in recent weeks. Interesting few weeks ahead..

Increased budget according to KR but he said we'd be in a similar place to this season (8 or 9th I think) in terms of the size of budget compared to other clubs.

Yeh a slight increase on last season to keep us competitive with the top 8/9 teams wasn’t it, I’d imagine it’s not massive though and will have been agreed a long time ago. Nothing will change once the takeover is announced.

So if nothing is going to change, what’s the point?
I think it will change. Telling all and sundry that you have a bit of money to spend is not going to help us in our transfer business.

Our standard wage budget will increase, but another biggie is additional payments such as bonus's, relocation fees and signing on fees etc. We may have the wiggle room to be quite 'creative' in what we offer to new signings this coming season.

I hope the budget doesn’t change much, we've still only got 7K fans, there’s no point in being a plaything subsidised by billionaires

Even with a new man in charge with his own ideas, budget going up, you think things will stay the same? What is the reason for the change in ownership then?
The new owners will have paid for the privilege of taking the reins, therefore hopefully a new direction or a little more decisiveness is seen in stadium moves etc is seen.

You seem to be dampening down any realistic expectations people have? Someone takes control of a football club for a reason, has a vision possibly.

No way Tiger would agree to increases in budgets without the deal being agreed unless he was happy with the possibility of funding it himself should the deal not go through.

Plus new ownership are likely to want any marquee signings to be attributed to them

I think if you want to break in to the top 2 leagues, there is going to be an element of this I'm afraid.
However, if our ambitions are to mill about in L1 then we need not do a thing.
I mainly want us to be sustainable. Promotion would be good fun but not if we end up like Sheffield Weds or Bury

I thought the “new owners” have been covering more of our losses over the last year as it is? If they agreed to do the same again there’s no reason we couldn’t increase our budget.

There is now an additional 8mil in shares. I would be worried if that 8mil was solely there to cover our COVID losses…

Covering losses, is whole load of a different ask to covering an increasing playing budget, they are both either end of the spectrum.
