Not sure why all the negativity with Barker, he is way above League 1 standard and to have him with us full time would be a major coup

Let's not forget he needed time to get up to required fitness so pre season with team mates getting to know when they make runs and where will be to our benefit

I agree. I suspect that if Barker joined us then all that negativity would turn into how he is a world beater.

If the chance was there I would jump at it.........as I would at Marvin Johnson. Put to the side the way he left, he would light up this division and let's remember how good he was before. He has been playing regular Championship football and I would jump at it

Because not everyone agrees? He *is* way above L1 standard for brief periods in a game - and in those periods looks like a huge asset we'd be mad not to try to sign. For all of the rest of the time he is a passenger. He can't tackle or resist a tackle, doesn't track back, make runs off the ball etc. If he hasn't got the ball he doesn't look interested. He is the kind of player who has a brilliant show-reel! Add in the fact that he is going to want huge wages and you get why people aren't that bothered about him.

All players divide opinions. It’s rare a player is unanimously loved/hated by all fans.

Ultimately you don’t get on the radar of clubs he’s been to without talent. But in L1 there’s no space for a luxury player and I don’t agree he is way above this level. To get to the next level in anything you first have to prove yourself where you are. This is a player finding himself down the leagues looking for his level where he may be able to shine - whether that’s because he can’t stay fit or because he lacks something in his game is another debate.

I like what he can do on the ball but it’s all in flashes and football these days is as much about what a player does off the ball as what they do on it. He doesn’t convince me. That said, I don’t think we’ve seen enough of him and I wouldn’t complain if he came back, but I think he needs to prove he is fit enough to play 35/40 games and embrace the challenge to prove over a season he is above this level.

It's amazing that our fans suddenly saw Sean Clare as the answer once he had gone but when here we had fans begging for him to not play

Did he really offer anything special in those few games wide in the right ?
Not sure we saw enough of him in the correct position to make a judgement. One thing he has got is pace, when played further forward he did show that he could be a real threat. I guess if he comes back and is played in his normal position in the pre season friendliest we will know whether he is staying or going back out on loan

Very good post. He didn't look interested in the 2nd leg. Never went on one meaningful run and that is the only strong point to his game. Without that he is a bit of a passenger with the rest of his game. I also think there would be periods of fitness problems.

Marvin as far as can remember did ok , extremely disappointed with performance at Wembley never seemed to get out of first gear,he will be looking to stay in the championship

So we going to get Marvin down the left Gavin Whyte down the right please can we sign Jefferson Louis to score the important goals how about purse to tighten up the defence maybe turley or judge could do a job in goal

Wouldn’t Alsop be better than Louis but then again both had a decent banana bend in their shot

This is the OED definition of 'winger'.

Yeah and if we somehow get a chance to re-sign Roofe, Dickie and Baldock this summer for free let’s turn it down because they’re old news, look forward not back right?!

He started well, on the wing, looked dangerous, then faded, and was moved back into left back, where he was atrocious defensively, but got forward quite well, but whenever he was actually played further forward, he was pretty ineffective, even had a couple of games as a striker if I remember rightly, which also came to nothing.

However, I do remember a missile from about 35 yards, that hit the bar, and nearly knocked the goal over!

We sold him for one hell of a fee for somebody so clearly rubbish based on your description.

I wonder whether I watch the same games as some.Johnson was a cut above. Perhaps you’re remembering the beginning of the season where he clearly wanted to move and appeared disinterested.

Sorry, come again? You genuinely think we will be signing players of equal or greater ability of Marvin Johnson this season?

I suspect you are going to be a tad disappointed!
We may sign someone who turns out to be as good as him, but certainly not one of his value or profile
