Home Match Day Thread +++ 10/04/2018 OUFC v Fleetwood Town Match Day Thread +++

To be fair I think those decisions were down to Faz. Hadn’t Pep already left the building?
No deadline for Hemmings was 5 days before PEP got sacked it was the monday before Bury game.

The side looks half way decent under Robinson - some real fluency in the play tonight.

if we can keep that standard up we ought to be fine. But we can’t buy a goal and that is very troubling.

We also always have individual mistakes in our locker - it’s time to drop Mousinho.

Far too gung ho at the end: Kane was miles out of position for their goal - it was a brilliant goal nonetheless.

Man of the match
-
Mowatt - his best game for the club .

Thought Dickie was MOTM again, but Mowatt probably had his best game for the club since joining.

Peps f-up again.

Fleetwood made Eastwood make two quality saves. Did we make the Fleetwood goalie make any?

It was Faz, not Pep. Raglan there tonight, and looking forward to coming back for next season, just wish he’d have been available for these last few months!

Apart from Obika.

Oh, and Lesdon really needs to know how to use composure. Just think we need to swop him and Brannagan around.

Just feels that the writing is on the wall at the moment, and tonight’s result felt the same when their keeper made that save against Thomas and when McAleny came on mist knew what would happen.

Real shame for the players, management and of course the fans!

Just hope we can find 4 or 5 points from our remaining games to help us survive.
Yes, I thought Obika was desperately poor. It's hard to imagine that Gino wouldn't present more of a goal threat than him.

Good on the ball in the first two thirds, and defended well mostly, but we don't know how to break teams down in the final third. I think it's a mixture of poor decision making and low confidence. We don't take defenders on enough. Players like Rothwell I think are scared to take players on in the final third. By the centre circle, he'll take players on for fun and looks great going on mazy runs but for some reason that stops outside the box where he gets forced out wide a bit too often. He'd get a lot more goals and assists or even win pens - at least scaring centre halves - if he was more direct running in the final third because the talent is there. I think he loses confidence that he can do it in tight spaces and I think maybe a fear of getting injured is on his mind, which to be fair is understandable given what's happened recently.

We relied on the full-backs for crosses in the final third a little too often also, as happens when you don't have enough wingers. Todd Kane tonight reminded me of watching Damian Batt for us in League 2 with how often he had to cross it without success in into a congested penalty area. The makeshift winger in front of Kane would go into the box in the hope of getting on the end of a cross, but that meant another defender got dragged in, making the space even tighter and the box even more congested.

That said, one improvement I noticed from Saturday is that the midfielders tonight got into the box a lot more when we had the ball out wide and that helped get us a few more opportunities than against Oldham. We want a couple of centre midfielders flooding into the box but not the winger whose wing the ball is on. I'd still like to see more runs in behind when we're on the ball in centre of the final third, but we did that ok a couple of times. We looked more dangerous than we did against Oldham at least but the results really stings, I have to say.

Agree also that the fans were good again tonight. We have to keep this going and make noise on Saturday. After how devastating tonight was, singing loud and supporting the team no matter what against Southend makes a big statement to the players I think.

Absolutely gutting result last night. We played very well indeed. And not in the Pep stylee "lots of passing from side to side" that everyone raved about earlier in the season. But real positive organised football.

But you look at the difference. When Fleetwood were able to bring on Madden and McAleny, we could bring on big John, who is starting to remind me of Steve Anthrobus.

The decision not to sign a striker (i dont believe we ever had a chance of Cole or Moore) was lunacy. To leave Hemmings likewise. He was not a worldbeater, but was at least an option.

I cant see another win this season unfortunately. Were just so toothless in the box that theres no easy answer.

After last night, i think were down.

Well that well and truly shuts me up. I didn’t think any manager would be able to turn our rag tag bunch into a team and get them playing football. Robinson it would appear has done just that. If we maintain that level of performance we’ll be fine.
Yeah we missed so many chances and their keeper made some great saves but it’s creating and getting into the right positions that’s very important. The goals will come.
Proud of the lads tonight

From what I've seen, Port Vale fans aren't rating Raglan and it looks like he's been forced out to RB for them. May have something to do with their league position I guess.

For me it was absolutely gutting. If just one of those chances had been finished off we could have got, something from the game. I left just before the whistle and missed McAleney scoring. Had to be him didn’t it. My fault for forecasting it earlier.
There seems to be some coherence in the team now, and even though we haven’t had the results we’ve deserved perhaps, I’m sure we will have enough to stay clear of the drop zone. Karl Robinson’s record of two points from fifteen looks dire but I think we just need that elusive win. I’ll only be worried if we lose again on Saturday, as with Blackburn and Wigan that could mean nothing from those two.
Three of the bottom four are looking nailed on to go down now. Even though a lot of those players know they won’t be at the club next season, they will have to maintain standards otherwise their careers will suffer.
I’m sure if we stay up they will be a restructure of the management. I hope it’s in League One, but if it’s League Two it will surely only be for one season.
So long as we get behind the club as we did last night the points will get chalked up to ensure survival

We need a goal just to go in off someone’s a**e. The Rothwell chance was the main one...if he was to have that again, not in the first 30seconds of the half I’m sure he would have scored.

Re: Hemmings. I accept he isn’t our saviour, however going in to the final stretch with 4 injury prone strikers was crazy. The amount of balls we were putting in the box would play to Hemming’ strengths.
