In all seriousness, given the unusual circumstances with Covid, no fans etc, does anyone on here know why the game couldn’t be played at the Kassam today?

Heard from someone in the Buckingham borders area..... they've been without water since the early hours of this morning

... an early hours 'diversion' in the Northampton area of Sixfields would be purely coincidental,........ wouldn't it? :rolleyes:

Northampton Town's match with Oxford United was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Heavy rain on Thursday and Friday night/Saturday meant referee Thomas Bramall attended the stadium on Saturday morning and called the game off.

"In the interests of player safety, the correct decision was to call the game off," he said.

"There has been a lot of rain here over the last few days, the pitch is very wet and as always, the safety of the players is of paramount importance."

A new date will be arranged in due course.

Please note, if you already bought a Match Pass for iFollow, that pass will still be valid for the rearranged game whenever that is played.

From the NTFC website, so it was the referee.

Northampton, though... what a bunch of bottle jobs. Remember the Ipswich game last season, seem to remember we played that game...

A referee who has the power to ask for further inspections right up to kick off time. With no fans, minimal distance etc. this has all the hallmarks of the ref wanting to get back home to Sheffield before dinner time. In current circumstances to not even be seen to try and keep the game on is a really bad look. EFL won't do anything but not good enough from Bramall this.

This is a f*****g disaster, typical Kelvin Thomas - I saw him pissing on the pitch on their CCTV this morning.

Anyway, I've invested in a pass for Oxford City, God I need football.

Whilst I have not been able to prove it, both the top-class rugby club and the first-class country cricket club's home ground are within fifteen minutes' drive of Sixfields, and if between the three of them a Super-Sopper isn't owned that could be lent in circumstances such as these, then that's nigh-on remiss.

And that's before we even consider commercial hire services.

Cricket outfields get dried out in absolutely no time in this modern era. Today's lack of effort to get a game played stinks.

Exactly this.

The pitch must have been an absolute lake to call it off this early. Pictures we have seen are not at all conclusive, the worst I have seen is a bad puddle on what looks like an astroturf area pitchside. He could easily have asked for the groundspeople to do some work on it and then relook in another 2 hours. Or even contact the EFL and say pitch not looking clever, but no further rain forecast can we go for a 6pm kick off. To call off this early without giving any alternative sounds like the ref just didn't fancy it. To think 3 or 4 years ago we went there in thick snow, when fans access did matter and it was really dangerous for fans and players alike.

Excellent shot of the edge of the technical areas there, which are laid with plastic grass / astro and therefore never drain. They need sweeping every time it rains, always have done. I’ve stood where that photo has been taken at least half a dozen times.

Show us the pitch, lads, not the dugout.

Over night snow and ice, adding what was already in place, have made certain parts of Yorkshire , ( including in and around Sheffield), near impassible

Was chatting to a mate who lives in Sheffield mid morning, he had to abandon his car about a mile and a half from home, -after going for essential shopping & his wife's medication,- had to struggle through ice n snow with shopping bags. More snow expected there too

Which more or less confirms the inexperienced ( in the league) match referee didn't bother checking weather forcasts- in both Northampton, or in Yorkshire for late morning nor for this afternoon ?
