Home Match Day Thread +++ 17/02/2018 OUFC v Plymouth Argyle match day thread +++

When you make statements about a performance you haven't seen, it does devalue your opinion somewhat!

But of course you are allowed an opinion on anything you like. In the same way that you are, in my opinion, an absolute muppet!
Thank you

As others have said, much better today but we still lost. Like everyone I else I would rather we had played appallingly and sneaked a spawny 1-0 win!

I was surprised that Henry was taken off - once we stopped playing long balls up to Obika (which I thought he generally did OK with as long as they weren't head-height! For a big tall man he really is a rotten header of the ball) he became increasingly ineffective. I'd have kept Henry on in the number 10 role - he has lost his pace but IMO is much better than Obika - and added GVK as a striker. GvK did OK, showing a lot of energy, but he isn't good enough to play a whole game for us. Off the bench late in the game he can cause a bit of trouble. I also wasn't that keen on moving Ricardinho back to full back, I thought he had been playing well further up the pitch.

The goal seemed to be Eastwood's fault to some degree, he didn't know if he was coming or going!

All we need to do (!!) is to match up playing better with actually winning a match and we will all feel happier. Next stop, away to Northampton - that always goes well....

Dickie and Kane looked good but the two double barrelled boys are not what we need to get out of this bother

Just to throw this out there, I’m not massively bothered if we get relegated, I will buy a season ticket and be there watching us in l2 as I would if we stay up. Maybe that’s why I’m not quite in the panic that some have been since xmas. But just to forewarn u, when (not if) we do stay up, no one will be sleepwalking anywhere on here, as I will be in positivity overdrive at the lessons to be learned from having a little faith. This shouldn’t be an argument about who was there and who wasn’t - yes the performance was better today but we lost again. My gripe is with the total lack of leadership at the club. I suppose I’d convinced myself that there would be a big unveiling of a new manager, maybe even a new owner. But nothing forthcoming, zilch. Nobody knows anything, not even RO. And Faz indicated that DE has told him it’ll be business as usual for him. I’m feeling totally frustrated, we need points on the board, better performances aren’t enough. Who’s to say it’s the start of a continued run of better performances anyway? Charlton was a great performance but we’re just so inconsistent. The whole club needs to be grabbed by the balls and given an almighty shake up before it’s too late. This is starting to feel like 2006 all over again

I think Charlton was an accidental good performance to be honest. Losing Wes and Obika in quick succession forced us to play with Napa, Buckley Ricketts and Rothwell in rotation up front. It was also the start of putting Ricardinho further up. The most proactive front line we've had all season. If we'd have kept Obika on I image we would have had the usual performance levels and a loss.

Again today, we've brought on energy and pace to good (if futile) effect. It's true we need a composed striker, that is priority one in the summer, as well as renewing the PL loans from January. But we had 24 shots on goal today. It's easier to work on finishing chances than creating them.

Nervousness may be slowly becoming justified, but the energy isn't going to help the squad. The optimistic posters here are aware of the danger, but the best thing we can do to help is encourage a team that have been unlucky today.

They played well. If they carry the momentum and learn from the mistakes they'll get the results we need.

After today where i watched in horror (i let the missus tackle the garden centre Bob :)) i am certain we are going down.

We played ok. Better than recently yes. But when recently has been utter dog poop, today was an improvement ill admit.

But we still lost. The decision not to sign a striker in January was simply stunning. It showed again today.

DE has totally given up that much is clear. Theres simply no momentum around the club at all any more.

Love the optimism on here. However theres no justification for it. Were down.

It all looked much better but, we played against a team that allowed us to play. Nice to see that players have adopted the rolling around on the deck whenever they are fouled, about time we played nasty. Just don't copy there number 10 and leap to your feet when you've got the foul! Upset the ref that!
GVK had a couple of good tricks but he is not £800k worth, bye bye in the summer. The youngsters need to learn to pass and that they are not going to beat every defender - they are not that good! Richardino has to stay, what a genuine bloke and he's not bad on the pitch. Mehmeti injured again?? bye bye. And I'm puzzled by Moushino as MOM. Really?

The positive bus has arrived, all aboard I am with you ?

Blimey, next 3 games arr season defining.

Northampton
Fleetwood
Wimbledon

We're get 6 out of 9 from these i reckon!

I thought Rickets and Brown did ok
Only issue with Buckley Ricketts is if he don't change his game when Hall comes back he'll be in and out the squad. Can't have 2 wingers on who both like to try and beat a man then cut back in playing at same time

I really can't stress this enough... we're fifteenth.

Anything new to add as you’ve had us down since matchday 1 ?

IBR does not need to beat the defender three times before he puts in a cross, much improved but no end result, Ricky needs to start, Obika needs to go, like Dickie mint, Henry to slow, need some sort of poacher in the box but from where is the question.
