Home Match Day Thread +++ 14/9/2019 OUFC v Tranmere Rovers Match Day Thread +++

Great result, made up for not being able to watch the game despite being in Crete.
Now for the fun and games dealing with the numpties at ifollow.
presumably they have taken the money Ive had problems with them

Tranmere were comfortably the worst side we've played (Blackpool were poor as well - but at least defended well) - they were big and strong, but had next to no quality. Reckon they will be in the bottom third at the end of the year (and may be the first opponent we've had we can say that about....it's been a tough set of fixtures to open the season).

We were a little hit and miss today, but by far the better footballing side and the result was fair enough.

Suggests that we should have far too much in our locker to get drawn into the relegation battle this season.
Question is, can we go on a run from here and get ourselves back in the playoff mix?

Yup. Happily took the payment in euros on my credit card. No mention of having to have an account outside of the UK. Just now had a response (automated) asking me to name my football club so they can locate my details! This despite me attaching their confirmation of payment with all the account details!
Utter bunch of numpties. I'm going to email Chris Williams with an update so he can take it forward to the EFL when they meet.

You can block your credit card payment..
And I agree, numpties.

Sounds like it was a average performance against a poor side which you could almost predict considering the pressure that was on the players to get a result. To not play well and still win 3-0 is a very big positive though.

I'm also shocked to see there was only 5600 home fans. I know results have been great but that is still a very poor turn out.

That was like watching two bald blokes fighting over a comb today. We were a bit better than them, but we were very flat and they were just dross.

Frankly though, I don’t give a damn. Three points were all that mattered today, and a clean sheet to boot. Three more on Tuesday please gents.

Yep, good to win but a little caution....they out shot us 10 to 6, with 8 of their attempts in the penalty box. Conceding so many attempts to a team most are describing as the worst we’ve seen this season is not great.

Eastwood and Mousinho had some weird moments at the back - thought Gorrin was very good though.

On to Bolton...if we could just work out how to make the most of those Cadden crosses ?

Created more than enough to be good value for the win. It’s weird that we’ve played better in other games but not got the results. Tranmere will struggle. If Brannagan keeps this up he’ll be off in January, the fact he’s added goals to his game makes him a brilliant all round midfielder. People will criticise the attritional nature of the game but Tranmere didn’t have a sniff, and that is welcome after our defensive lapses recently. Also thought Woodburn was quietly effective.

They might of had 10 shots but can’t remember Eastwood really being tested

I am surprised that they had 10 shots. They had a header that went straight at Eastwood, a brilliant block from Gorrin in the first half and not a lit else?
Agree that Gorrin was very good and Fosu makes a big difference to the team.
We need to get Taylor in the team scoring and we will be a much better team.

This from whoscored- about 4 blocked.

Not being critical - just would want to give that much up vs a handy team!

Put Taylor in the six yard box instead of Mackie crashing to the near post and he would have several tap ins today

Wernt pretty but a result that will hopefully steady the ship ....its halted the league run of defeats n draws if nowt else ....3very welcome points too

Not a game for the purists.
We were dogged and played with a lot less out and out attack today.
Cadden held back a little more, although he was very good when he did get forward.
We did seem a lot more solid though Easty’s strange decision making apart, we seemed harder to get behind, but not nearly as threatening.
Fosu made himself a decent outlet for his defenders. I thought Henry played very well today, he looked fit and dangerous.
The one player who seems to be missing a spark is Woodburn. He is busy, but drifts out of the game far too often.
He needs to start imposing himself in these games.
No doubting he is a talented kid but there are a number of very skilful players here who would crave his game time.
That was a very much needed, confidence boosting win though that should hold us in good stead for the next two games on the road.
Well done boys!??

Just got back and haven’t caught up with everybody’s comments on here but for my tuppence worth it was one of the poorest games I’ve seen in a long time. A wins a win but Tranmere surely won’t spend long in league 1 unless they improve dramatically. As for us,we really lack anyone who can get hold of the game by the scruff of the neck and take control. The nearest we had to that was Shandon when he came on. It’s slightly concerning that once again there was evidence that he’s made of China. The challenge for the pen didn’t look to brutal but there was a few heart-in-mouth moments as he looked in real trouble. Before he came on, there was no real sense of us getting on top and dictating the game through midfield, just flashes of good things by Tariqe - deservedly MoM in my opinion, and decent tidy play by Henry supported by Cadden down the flanks. Having said that how many times does Cadden fail to beat the first man with his cross?! As for Woodburn it’s so frustrating, he shows flashes of being a good tidy player but is really failing to stamp his authority on to the game. There’s definitely a player there but he really does need to be doing more. We need him to be the fulcrum of the team. Hopefully Taylor will now stay fit and establish himself as our true ‘no9’. Mackie has battled manfully in his absence but he’s not the answer to any of our issues in attack.

A special mention needs to go out to Tariqe - he came over after the game and posed for photos and signed autographs after the game when he didn’t need to. I got a great pic of him with my 13 year old son which we both really appreciated. He’s now entrenched as my sons favourite player! ?
