Oxford Ultras - Over & Out

I've been hanging the banners for years, it takes over an hour and a half. If you want to put some wavers up too you can start looking at 2 hours. Any game with a big display saw us arrive at 9am, sometimes earlier.

The club/stadco soon back tracked on Saturday with "they could have returned at noon to put them up", we could only laugh at what a desperate U-Turn there'd been once fans started questioning them on social media.

Two lads walked out the reception at 10:30 and greeted me, first conversation was "we've just been told in no uncertain terms that the flags are not allowed up today, and we can return at 12 to discuss why." Bare in mind recent discussions have included another 2 lads being berated by Mixter without being allowed to speak for half an hour, including lines from Doyle like "you're lucky we don't charge you rent for those". On another morning meeting before the Sunderland game they had removed a bunch of flags from our storage cupboard and hid/locked them in the south stand, then used this as a bargaining tool to make sure "we don't protest again". That's the sort of pathetic cr*p we've had to deal with from the stadium company AND club employed Mixter recently.

With that in mind, you can probably see why returning at 12 for another fun meeting was not on the agenda, and we'd rather just call it a day than go through it all again just for 6 more home games. I can imagine a 12 oclock meeting would have lasted an hour, leaving us hanging up flags at 2:30/3pm.
I've given this a like but for the post, what the post explains I definitely do not like. I know we have Kassam problems but the club have some serious issues to address here for me. I won't hold my breath , they will get back to us on it I expect.

Club statement:-

Following Saturday’s game against Peterborough United the club have reluctantly accepted the resignation of Ian Mixter, Head of Crowd Safety.
Ian has been a friend and colleague to all of us at the club and has worked tremendously hard to ensure the safety of supporters. His innovative ‘Ox Rails’ initiative is typical of Ian’s forward thinking and there are countless systems and changes that he has helped to implement around the ground - many of which will go unnoticed by fans but have certainly been appreciated by the safety authorities who continue to hold Ian in very high regard.
Ian told us
“I took over at a time when the club faced safety critical challenges; the club are now in a position where they have the trust and confidence of the regulatory authorities. I have always tried to balance my responsibilities for safety with the expectations of the fans. I have worked with some good people over the years and wish Oxford well for the future. In my position supporters are entitled to their opinion on my decisions and I have always been happy to debate such matters face to face whether at a forum, meetings with supporters groups or one to one meetings with fans. However, the level of personal vile abuse received by myself over the last 24 hours coupled with previous direct threats on the safety of my family has caused to me to resign with immediate effect as Head of Crowd Safety."
Niall McWilliams added
"On behalf of Oxford United Football Club, I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude for the work that Ian has undertaken and completed, often in difficult circumstances. Without exception, Ian has worked in a professional manner in dealing with all issues surrounding safety at Oxford United.
“From a club perspective, we are extremely disappointed that one of our colleagues has not been treated with the respect they deserve. Whilst we appreciate that this has been a difficult season for us, it is clearly not right for our hard working staff to feel threatened either in person or online. As an organisation that has respect at the centre of all we do, we feel strongly that this should not happen; it is not behaviour we will tolerate.
We wish Ian all the best for the future and thank him for his hard work for the club
At the same time we thought it was important to explain events on Saturday.
Under the terms of our contract with the stadium company we gain access to the ground at midday for all Saturday 3pm kick offs*. This means that all staff are allowed in at 12 o’clock to start the build up to the game, with the one exception being the safety team who are allowed in earlier to ensure that the club complies with the regulations set out in the Green Guide.
At around 10.00 am the Ultras arrived to put up their flags and banners at the back of the East Stand. The Ultras were then asked by Ian and Michael Doyle the Stadium Manager to return at noon to erect the flags and speak to Niall McWilliams who would explain the situation. From our perspective the meeting between the Stadium Manager, the OUFC Safety Officer and the Ultras was polite and amicable; at no stage were the Ultras banned from putting up their flags.
However, a tweet was sent out from that group that stated ‘Unfortunately there will be no flags on the back wall today. Stadium manager and Head of Security informed us they are not allowed up when we arrived at 10:30.”
There is an ambiguity to this tweet and we would like to make clear that the decision not to put up flags was made by the Ultras, not by the Stadium Company or the club who fully appreciate the fact that the group gave up so much of their spare time time, voluntarily, to try and help create colour and atmosphere at matches.
Could we have explained all of the above on Saturday?
We took, as a club, a decision that we needed full reports from everyone involved so we were in possession of the full picture before we could comment. Matchdays are so busy for all members of staff that this was not possible until after the match.
What will we do next?
We learned yesterday that the Ultras have disbanded. We would like to thank them for ten years of colour and atmosphere at games and we know they will continue to support the club as individuals. Talks are already under way with Oxvox and the Stadium Company to find a permanent solution at the back of the East Stand which will add the same colour as the flags. We will continue to work closely with the Stadium Company and adhere to the midday on Saturday agreement.

Mixter gone and another winding up petition.

The club is a shambles. Pathetic response from the club re: Saturday about now (4th) winding up!? Total joke.

Jeez! And Shosho has reported yet another winding up petition, this time from Firoka. Difficult to keep smiling at the moment. There's a sinking feeling about this club.

The atmosphere Saturday reflects all that’s going on....no wonder the club begged for 10k vs Sunderland. It’s a s**t show

Any angst on here should be directed at Firoka and Doyle ( who is just obeying orders i guess). It is clear FK , Nilu and co are seeking retribution and will do anything to make life difficult for all those working at, and connected to OUFC. Only those close to the situation will know how to begin to resolve this impasse...if there is a way to resolve it, which i am beginning to doubt. Very worrying. By not displaying banners the Ultras are playing into Kassam's hands. He will see it as another little battle he has won against the club and its fans.

Well said.

I see that the nice Mr Kassam - the self appointed custodian of the club - is now petitioning for our club to be wound up in the High Court.

Ian Mixter departs whilst desperately trying to portray some sort of victim after bullying fans for 2 years, I have a feeling he didn't just "resign" somehow  Also interesting to see the club branding the Ultras as liars in an official statement, I think that certainly is the final nail in the coffin if the damage wasn't already done!

So why couldn’t they have:

1. Given the ultras earlier notice of a change in policy?

2. Tweeted on Saturday that they would investigate?

If nothing else there appears to be a lack of common sense, mixed in with petty bureaucracy and a determination to not create a positive atmosphere

A pathetic statement from the club. Upon hearing the two accounts, I’m pretty sure, considering previous history, as to who a majority of OUFC fans would believe. The club is shitting on its own doorstep with the entire episode

It honestly boggles my mind. We've turned up every home game to put the flags up, and were dead set on ending on a high. I even brought in some old banners along we hadn't used for some time Saturday. Utterly bizarre.

Another thing which is blatantly obvious here, this is a clear deflection tactic for ANOTHER winding up order, ironically the reason for the protest in the first place!

Total joke is right, and not a word about the Peterborough kit man.

The very clear discrepancy is around 12. You say you were asked back to discuss not putting up the flags, the club are backing that you could put them up, but at 12. Who is in the middle of all this...the guy that has now resigned after intimidating the support (reportedly...I know who I choose to believe).

We have an owner off chasing unicorns, the ultras did the correct thing in the protest and the latest developments just further support your actions

Bit late with this statement methinks?

Not late Sarge... perfectly timed with the winding up order from Firoka. Released at the exact minute Oxford Mail released their winding up story.
Twas a tongue in cheek comment .....but, there does appear to be lots of s**t in the air today!

Bullshit baffles brains.

Seems to me we don’t have a pot to pisss in, we can’t pay anyone it seems apart from the players thankfully, Firoka don’t give a monkeys as long as they get paid and care less about the club than a Swindon supporter.

I reckon next years season tickets will be on sale soon, if nothing else to pay the cleaners, if we have any.

If we could, in some way, get away from this horror movie with the words 'Curse-him' in it, I would be such a happy person. If everybody in United's fan base gave at least £100 (or as much as they could) and we funded a brand new version of Oxford United, just to get away from the clutches of the hooded claw that is ka-ka-ka-ka curse him and his company, you could count me in, even though I am not rich. No more money-mad rich people running our club, I say. At least I can dream..................................

I’m up for that, i would be in for £300
