Ex Player Rothwell and a new contract

Does anybody else wonder if we’re targeting our recruitment in the wrong areas of the country?! How many times have we heard ‘he wants to move back up north’ with reference to our players? Surely we’d be better off looking at Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, even the likes of Watford and Southampton’s academy players. Not saying they’ll be ‘southerners’ born and bred but at least they’ll be more settled down here

There is something in this. We tend to forget that they are in their early 20's and away from friends and family. More often than not, they will want to move back. Plus, if you are a decent L1/Championship player, in the NW there is a huge choice of clubs within a one hour drive. Having said all this, we can't complain about Rothwell or Ledson. If the model is to get promising Prem reserves and then sell them on, then this is what happens! Still don't understand why we didn't sell Rothwell last summer though. Maybe no takers? Brannagan looks decent and a good replacement

Surely it's the nature of the beast in being a pro footballer ..being precious about location isn't always the best stance ..

Brannagan ,isn’t he from grim up north, if he continues to impress next season clubs north of Watford will know doubt start looking at tapping him for a move, could be the next one we have to sell on to balance the books.

If Rothwell and Ledson leave then so be it they both helped secure survival after Peps mess and played to there full ability each game.

I trust Robinson to find suitable replacements which i wouldn't have done if a certain Spanish no.2 was still here.

There's definitely some truth in this. Ledson who is 20, has moved 3/4 hours away from his family and lives alone in Bicester. When he joins Preston, he'll be playing 30 mins from his home and will move back in with his parents. I think unfortunately this could always be a problem with us when signing these young promising kids.

It's not really a problem if they do a good job for us whilst here and we sell them on for a good profit. We will always be a selling club anyway so doing it in a controlled way with the likes of Lego is sensible.

But we are buying them to sell for a profit a year or two later. We aren't buying them to keep forever.
