New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Planning

Firstly to stick up for Rad Ox with this feature, they didn't need to focus on the football ground as a central issue a few days prior to local elections so big tick to them bringing this into the discussion as there are lots of other things that are going on which many would argue are more important in life.

Greens - They are set on a specific agenda whether locally, nationally or globally so you have to respect their stance even if their supporters do come across unnecessarily aggressive about it. They can't see the bigger picture in which we all have to live though, and they have this crazy utopian view that if we follow everything they say then hey presto the world crisis is solved overnight. I don't have to agree with it but that is their belief and it hasn't changed so fair play.

Labour - have the experience to see beyond this just being a football stadium located in Kidlington and can see the benefits beyond the county. Fully supportive of the new stadium but didn't really have much else to say.

Lib Dems - a continuing horror show from these guys who are becoming embarrassing to listen to. Rad Ox presenter pushed back on the comparison of closing the road outside the stadium for 30-45 minutes and the LTNs preventing people going about their daily lives anyway so what is the difference. To which the Lib Dem councillor said that was a matter for County Council so ask them, nothing to do with him. But the County Council is his party, he should know, he should be consistent with the overall plan for the party, if elected he will need to work with these people and they are even on his side! Apparently they will need to consider the views of both sides before deciding whether to come and and support or not support. So what have they been doing for the last 18 months? All the opinions are released now, if they can't answer the question yet then they are totally out of touch with local feeling and don't deserve to be anywhere near running a local council, county council, or god forbid national government after the last coalition Lib Dem lies when they accepted a power grab in 2010. Avoid this lot at all costs.

Tories - good points well made again following the same point of view as Labour but being able to expand on it with concise and more critical points. I just feel that on this occasion it would have been nice if it was someone who was not a die hard fan as well had said these things.

Out of curiosity, have Campbell, McIvor and Middleton ever been successful in their attempts to stop a development? Are they serial losers?

Their sole aim is to delay and disrupt. They stop nothing but cost businesses AND councils huge sums of money and time fighting the system.

They are nothing more that irritable spoilt children you throw their dolls out when they don't get their own way.

Always worth remembering that the Greens in Brighton and Hove strongly objected to the Amex being built back in the early 00s, despite the club being at real risk of going out of business.

Thankfully (for BHAFC fans) the stadium was built and the rest, as they say, is history.

I've no doubt that if the stadium does get built we will see Green Party members faking support and attempting to ride the wave, but for me (as someone who is sympathetic to genuine green causes) the damage is permanently done - as it was for Brighton's Supporter Group -
If the Greens ever want to be taken seriously on a larger scale they need to be truly progressive, encouraging developments that both benefit society and are environmentally conscious. They should be ousting champagne socialists like Middelton, not giving them a platform to spout small-minded, classist ideas that are so clearly based on selfish interests rather than what's best for society as a whole.
The stadium will develop the site into a more green and energy efficient site, so they should be all for it, it is all about it not being built where they live close to. It will be the greenest stadium built & produce reusable energy. If this goes to Secretary of State, it gets built. They simply will not turn down a development with this potential for the area and environment.

That's an insult to irritable spoilt children!

McIvor in particular has a terrible reputation in political circles. A freedom of information request is known as "a McIvor" apparently.

If the Greens had anything about them, they would have worked with the club/ CDC and tried to push the green credentials as much as possible.
Then they could have used this as a template for future buildings and tried to really push the green agenda and used this for planning in other areas.
They could have learned what is good and what could be improved. Theu could point to this stadium being the greenest in the Country.

Instead? They are pretty horrible NIMBYs, arguing for roads to be kept open and arguing for a stadium which relies almost entirely on people driving to it.

They seem to have very little interest in green issues, just playing at local politics. What an awful example these are to young people and what a terrible advert for local politics.

because the Parish council support s**t initiatives like funding a pointless poll that meant nothing
half expect FoSB to impose another (non binding= meaningless) poll at tonights KPC EGM , at a(nother) cost of £7000 to KPC taxpayers

You’d hope they wouldn’t be that stupid as would be a massive own goal to have a poll on something they can’t change

I take the time to read through each batch of responses that appear on the planning portal. I skim read most of them, due to the sheer volume, but pay particular attention to those from OX5 and OX2, and to those objecting and there are a few things that I've noticed (about the objectors).

Their writing style is often so arrogant and pompous. They refer to us as thugs and louts (yes, these words have been used) and often refer to the unruly, and drunken, behaviour that they are so sure is going to happen. They call the club liars, and almost to a man (although the majority of objectors seem to be female) repeat the FOSB mantra that we can stay at The Kassam. They dismiss out of hand that fans will use the public transport network, claiming that there is no evidence, and obviously thinking that they know best.

There are too many inaccuracies to mention, but one that keeps popping up is that there will be 580 events a year, meaning 580 road closures. A few have even said that there will be 580 events of 16,000 people each time, and some have increased the stadium capacity to 18,000 or 19,000 to make it seem worse. They often mention intolerable noise from the concerts that they are sure will happen, even though the club have said they won't. There is frequent mention of the "foreign owners" and that they will obviously create a Kassam Stadium Mark II situation, and they often refer to us as a bankrupt football club that is going to leave a half finished shell of a stadium on the site. They keep referencing that all of our support is from East Oxford and that we don't belong in their area. Oh, and the way they refer to Kidligton as some quaint Cotswold village is laughable.

Overall, I find myself veering from apocalyptically angry to totally dispirited when reading their responses, and what they think of us. But my heart is lifted by the huge number of supportive comments on the portal, that far exceed these small minded NIMBYS.

I had a conversation with someone very close to the project yesterday, who is extremely confident that it will get the go ahead. More than ever I look forward to shutting some of these "vinegary" people up once the stadium is built.
I always respect your opinion @Colin B and share your feelings. Your last paragraph gives me hope. The club and the stadium is a massive community asset

There's also a point that this country needs to be open to green investment (which the stadium is). A rejection is akin to hanging up a signing on UK plc saying "closed for business"

Can I once again say thanks to everyone who is scrutinising the actions of FOSB and those in politics, and also to those summarising everything on here for everyone. It is greatly appreciated by those who are not local and with limited time.

You're all legends!

👏

A genuine question to anybody who knows how these things work.
Does this matter at all now? Are KPC relevant after their pretty odd behaviour throughout the whole process ( letting the people of Kidlington down on my view)?
Are they n9w out of the equation after the huge majority for the stadium?
