on the subject of the prospective new stadium, subject , of course, to planning permission being granted after due process, for a bit of fun n entertainment , what name would best suit the new stadium?

I quite like the idea of it being called' The Green- Belt Village Arena '
The name of the new stadium needs to be suitably impressive, given the training ground is called the Bangkok House Headington Glass Superdome.

Not really relevant now Stratfield Brake is off the table. Also, it was never for sale, we were looking to lease it.

The Triangle isn't open to the public and is leased to a fencing company so definitely isn't public recreational land. Again, a lease is being discussed not a sale.
No Steve, it's NIMBYs like you (NEIMBY = not even in my back yard in your case) that saw Stratfield Brake nixed, not some supreme court judgement.

Could have been a complex of national importance and standard with facilities that would benefit Kidlington, North Oxford and the county as a whole for generations, but we wouldn't want that here now would we?

the opponents of a football stadium at the triangle, it seems are misleading n misinforming, again! - a lease is NOT a sale as @Orkney Islands Yellow points out ..... does that nextdoor claim equate to misinformation, ( based on GLP Supreme court ruling re te sale of local authority land) in letter form being spouted on the pages of OM soon?

And surely the triangle has never been classed as recreational?
it was used for a while as a bike track .... I may be getting a bit confused ( which could be likely too), but wasn't it Trax who ran it as a bike track for a while? , or was that, the Trax run bike track, somewhere else out in that general vicinity?

More pertinent is that the Greenfields Recreation Ground is part of a plot secured for public recreation by a statutory trust in 1926 - the community had legal rights to use the land for recreational purposes which the local council failed to recognise when selling the land and subsequently granting planning permission for housing.

The actual rulings by the Law Lords are that

The freedom to dispose of land granted under the Local Government Act is not designed to free land from public trust agreements
and
Public recreation rights over the land are material considerations that should be taken into account when it comes to granting planning permission

So unless OCC established a trust when they purchased the land in 1937, the first ruling is irrelevant to SB. The second ruling is a reiteration of current planning procedure - it does not prevent the granting of planning permission.

The Triangle is currently leased to a fencing company and the public have to access to itvso definitely not recreational. I'd bet KPC will try and change its use or get public access to it so they can use that ruling to suit them.

An update from the earlier nextdoor thread which answers @Sarge 's question:

Of course you can...
There's someone living in a tent in the woods there....
Is it resolutely cautious councillor Middleton, who is observing the endangered Kidlington crested newt, which has recently been spotted nesting there?
