Play from the back to bring opposition out which creates space in behind for the ball to be played to the wingers who then put balls into the box, you have multiple players now making various runs/holding back for those crosses.
This way of playing has been evident for quite a few games now (Bolton aside as that was just a shambles).
The problem comes when we have committed so many players forward for the attacks that we often get overloaded when the play breaks down. This is the area where Des needs to get the team improving. With the ball we are pretty good, without it, not so much!
And this is part of the problem with this squad, we haven’t replaced McNally with a ball playing CB and what we have is 2 CB’s that will head it and kick it but they won’t bring it out from the back like McNally, Dickie or Atkinson would do.We try to play out from the back but we're not very good at it.Brown and Long couldn't pass wind.

Oh dear, right Dick, yes Des’s style is to bring it out from the back, that doesn’t mean we have the players that are comfortable doing it, which I have also said that we don’t.You what?
In an earlier posts you said it’s been evident for weeks that Des’s style is playing it out from the back and drawing in the opposition to create space. You’re now saying we have two centre backs who kick and head it but won’t bring it out from the back. Either you or Des - or very likely both of you - haven’t got a bloody clue what you’re talking about!

I’ve said for a long time Brown and Moore aren’t good enough at being ball playing centre backs yet whether Des is here or Manning was still here, this is the way both managers like to play and we don’t have many other players to play there who are any better at it.
It is a positive that Des is finally playing his style of football that he wants and to be honest, I find it quite good to watch as like the old school feel of wingers getting in and just running at their full backs rather than constantly cutting back and coming inside.OK, so why is Des persisting with something that is clearly not working? You alluded to it as being some sort of positive that we are finally seeing the emergence of an identity under Des. Are you now conceding it as a negative?
We were 21st in the league for long passes played and 2nd in the league, we’re since 9th under Des for long passes and something like 15th since he took over.Oh dear, right Dick, yes Des’s style is to bring it out from the back, that doesn’t mean we have the players that are comfortable doing it, which I have also said that we don’t.

The play-offs.Bodin was very poor yesterday - the goal was even a miscue off the bar. He's too slow, makes bad decisions and....well, not good enough. No chance of going up ...participating in the play-offs would be embarrassing.

If Manning didn’t think they could do it, they wouldn’t have been in the team. But they were, they did, and we won games. Even Negru looked pretty well polished on the ball at that point.
There’s a visible change. It was clear as day that playing longer balls was the plan on Saturday so let’s not dress this up as our players not having the capability to do it when they do recently did it very effectively.
When we play out from the back its so slow and results in a panic clearance when we get closed down or a wild kick from Cummings which results in a throw in on the halfway line to the opposition.
I’m not sure it is panic. We played for it on Friday time and time again and almost every time it was hit by the same player in a similar direction with a similar flat trajectory - it was planned. When we play out from the back its so slow and results in a panic clearance when we get closed down or a wild kick from Cummings which results in a throw in on the halfway line to the opposition.
Moore brings it out at times but brown is ponderous slow & wins virtually nothing in the air, in short. He’s not very good. You what?

Tbf you haven’t got a clue what you are talking about either, so I wouldn’t be making out you are a footballing geniusYou what?

Do you think you know what you’re on about then? It was hardly the point of a footballing genius I was making!!Tbf you haven’t got a clue what you are talking about either, so I wouldn’t be making out you are a footballing genius
It feels like a a Pep Clotet moment. The right look and saying the right things at the start (although now sounding more like a broken record), but just doesn’t seem to have any idea on how to coach and manager a football club at this level.I was all for Des being given the summer to build his own squad, in the same way MApp was given a chance to after his first season here initially using a squad that wasn’t his.
But the difference is, you could see what MApp was trying to achieve with that awful squad he’d inherited, but they just weren’t good enough, then he had a January transfer window, and he brought in some real quality, and we were much better in the 2nd half of the season, and finished the season strongly, I think we were unbeaten in the final 8 games, winning most if not all of them if I remember correctly? And it was clear he should be given a summer window after that.
But the squad Des inherited was nowhere near as bad as the one MApp did, and although we weren’t exactly playing great football by that stage under Manning, Des has made them so much worse, and has since had a January window to at least show that he could improve the situation given a full summer window, but brought in players who were either crap (Cumming) already injured for months and for pretty much the remainder of the season (Edwards) already injured before they even signed with a history of struggling with injuries (Goodwin) or clearly nowhere near fit enough to play (Matete)
The only half decent player he signed has been Dale, who let’s be honest, other than a couple of moments of quality, and for all his efforts and commitment, the jury is still out on.
I think Des has shown with the current squad, that he’s just not a very good manager, the football is absolutely awful and the players look lost and uninterested, and that is down to the manager I’m afraid.
Imagine if we hadn’t already accumulated the points we had under Manning before Des took over, we’d be in real trouble now, and in a relegation fight.
I don’t want to go into a summer window with a manager who looks so out of his depth at this level.
Our existing players look like they don’t want to play under Buckingham, and I worry any potential summer signings will feel the same.
It was a nice idea to bring Des in, a young manager and a local lad, and one we all hoped would work, but from day one it’s been so underwhelming and uninspiring, and it just hasn’t worked.
It’s all gone stale, both on the pitch and in the dugout, and we need a huge rebuild in both departments, starting this summer…
