New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Planning

I know she doesn't mean it, but the fact that she's even joking about South Park - a genuine green space (though crucially, not so near her) shows that her devotion to green ideals is a chirade.

It's nimbyism, pure and simple. If FOSB et al could do a secret deal to accept a new stadium built on Shotover or Iffley Meadows instead, I reckon they'd take it with relish.

Hi all, to introduce myself. I’m the Labour candidate for Kidlington east. I’ve made clear my view on the stadium on both of my election leaflets which have been going through doors. Not many left to do now.

I’m a fan of over 40 years & a season ticket holder for the last 15.

I believe the stadium offers a unique & unprecedented opportunity for the area & the district & very much in support.

I’ve been watching on from afar but feel time to declare who I am. I’ve knocked on doors in KidE & met a number of people, it’s THE local issue. Had some interesting conversations & over the next week will be knocking on more doors.

A solution can be found to the traffic issues, it just needs calm heads around a table / tables & clear information.

If I can make one request, whoever you are going to vote for next Thursday just remember to take ID.

Everyone has a voice & we need to be respectful of others views but we live in a democracy & this is everyone’s opportunity to express their view whether we agree with them or not. There are other issues that need fixing - affordable housing & health & well being are two are make clear as well.

“The only games I want to see are on the pitch!”

Brilliant, when Murphy moves on, we need a new left winger.

I’m reading these too with interest.

Quite a few are stating that football supporters won’t use public transport because they can’t afford to!
Every and I mean every Oxford fan I've discussed 'travel to games' with, have said they would prefer to use public transport. My circumstance is that i can sell my car and just have 1 family car. I'll save more than the cost of a Season Ticket, bus cost and match day beers. Can't wait!

And your point?

Cllr Walker has been a massive champion of the stadium. What's wrong with that?

My point?

Cllr Walker has been a Conservative Councillor since 2017, and the Conservatives had control of OCC for decades prior to that.

Between May 2017 - when he was first elected - and May 2021 - when his party was voted out of power - he said next to nothing in his capacity as a Councillor about a new stadium, despite the club 'noticeably stepping up efforts' to find a location in 2018, a quarter of the way in to his first stint as a Councillor.

Now that his party are in opposition, all of sudden he can barely contain himself, it's really simple, what's the jolly hold up? Does he want a stadium without any conditions attached? Like the Kassam was?

Why didn't he and his Conservative colleagues do anything when he was in power and had the chance to?

I suspect it's because this sort of project is much easier to support while in opposition than it is while in power, where you have to do the *actual* work instead of just watching, tutting, and releasing statements about delays without being privy to the actual discussions.

Never trust a Tory … ?

I had a conversation with someone very close to the project yesterday, who is extremely confident that it will get the go ahead. More than ever I look forward to shutting some of these "vinegary" people up once the stadium is built.

Hmm, to me this adds weight to the possibility that all this political posturing from the Conservatives and Labour is about picking up a few votes more than anything else.

As I've said for a little while, all the increasingly fantastical complaints from FOSB, the objections from local LD councillors, and the apparent 'delay' has all been politically motivated.

When you look at where we are, progress is being made, it's slow because it's a huge project, and some are trying to jump on the bandwagon for purely political reasons.

He's done a damn sight more than those lying Liberal Democrats, who have been stringing us all along for months.

Full disclosure - I have never voted tory and don't plan to. I certainly won't in the general election.

As someone who spent the best part of five years from 2018 working on the stadium, I can unequivalently say that Cllr Liam Walker, together with his Conservative colleagues Nigel Simpson and Ian Hudspeth were incredibly supportive and helpful in those early days of stadium planning. For balance so was Mark Lygo, who is a Labour councillor and former Lord Mayor.

And I say this as someone who has never voted Conservative in my life. Sorry pal, but you're talking rubbish.

Your historical knowledge is flawed along with your understanding of local politics and, more importantly, your knowledge of recent events.

What is your motive for being on here? You certainly don't come across as a real supporter.

It's all been blown out proportion given how infrequently games are played and the extremely short period of time the road will need to be shut. Take now for example, we've played our last home game and there isn't another league game with a decent crowd scheduled until August now!

So salty, he tries to claim HoTs as non binding and trivial but this shows a lack of understanding of their purpose. These agreements are essential for framing the negotiations, ensuring all parties are clearly committed and of course, in turn, this will significantly influence the project's credibility and appeal in a positive way. To imply this step is merely a facade for financial desperation is not only cynical but factually inaccurate, but I guess that's par for the course in this instance.

I think the way in which Middleton reacted to the Heads of Terms news clearly shows it does matter, his reaction was quite telling. I suspect he thought, (and perhaps had been advised) the Lib Dems were going to delay the signing of it for a bit longer,
