New Stadium Plans - The Triangle - Planning

That's the risk of a bridge, just close the road afterwards for 20/30 mins and allow us to safely disburse into all that space. Should anyone get hurt as a result of being herded like cattle onto the bridge then the councillors insisting on it will have blood on their hands.
The safety of people should always be a priority over the convenience of people. Why this is different in North Oxford, I do not know.

Isn’t the building of the bridge itself going to bring inconvenience and road closures? Perhaps those pushing for it should consider the impact.

They will have to shut the road, when you add up how long the road closures around football will take it will be a few seasons before they equal the time the road closure to build the bridge will take.

And you sure as anything can guarantee that a certain group of people will object to work at night to complete the bridge they insist on.

I think they may have shot themselves in the foot here.

I doubt the anti-mob really believe a bridge is necessary (bar potentially improving access to Parkway for local residents). It simply serves as the biggest stick with which they can beat the club and scupper the plan. Should OCC back down, they will certainly try to use it as the basis of gaining further delays through claims that the Cabinet must meet to agree a fundamental change in the conditions under which they will agree to provide the land/potential for a Judicial Review.

Delays, leading to a loss of patience from our owners, are their best hope of ending this.

As far as the bridge idea goes how about a good fashioned British compromise?

Get the Stadium built.

Trial for a season with road crossings from Oxford Parkway and the short 3 minute diversion via Frieze Way. Ironing out any initial issues that are bound to arise. With a commitment from the club to build a bridge if it is proven that local residents are being hugely inconvenienced.

Take your common sense and get out of here

A simple, realistic and workable solution.

Such things are not permitted in Oxfordshire local government sadly.

What about an aqueduct instead of a bridge.

The risk of crush would be virtually eliminated as people would need to use a small ferry or canal boat to cross.

It would also be in keeping with the chocolate box architecture of Kidlington-on-Cherwell.

Exactly this.

Far bigger venues than our new ground move far higher volumes of fans across far busier roads, using surface crossing points and NOT bridges!

And unless the existing surface crossing points are closed on matchdays to prevent fans using them....guess what? - they'll use them anyway!
Think of stadium MK, I'd wager 90% of spectators cross at the lights on the dual carriageway there. No issues.

Absolutely not, if you thought rowdiness on a footbridge was bad you'd shudder at the thought of Hooligans bursting out of the water on Jetski's like a scene out of waterworld

If the club get planning approval for the bridge, then is there any rule that says it has to be built right now? Could just sit on the plans for a couple of seasons to see if it's even necessary

I assume that it was the elected councillors of OCC who made this "promise"* without taking any advice from their planning and traffic management experts first to see if it was entirely necessary

Have they followed due process in making that "promise"*? Because if they haven't and they have made this commitment without being able to demonstrate that it does not entail excessive and unnecessary costs to the developer then it can and will be subject to appeal, I would imagine.

*the promise may of course just be mealy mouthed words and not actually binding. I mean it wouldn't be the first time a group of politicians promised something and then don't actaully deliver it, especially if all the legal and technical advice concludes it is not in fact legal OR required!
