Transfer News Transfer targets summer 2019

We have done. But we need to be able to propose to the board that "We're no longer pursuing the initial targets, should we go after this guy now? How much can you sanction for us to bid on him?"

There are still plenty of people that haven't gone anywhere, that will need to before the end of the summer. Surridge, for instance.
Cadden deal I would now discard as if he decides against us and we’ve waited a couple of more weeks for an answer then 2nd 3rd chive May not be available.

With uncertainty over the Sunderland takeover, they're unlikely to make a bid for Chris Cadden, however it's possible that we could pick him up on a loan deal.

"The Daily Record report that MLS side Columbus Crew are considering signing the free agent and then loaning him straight out, with Oxford United amongst the interested clubs should that happen."

Having already offered the compensation asking price, this would seem a strange way to bring him to the club, but this is football in 2019 and anything is possible!!!!

Seriously don't know why 2 + 2 is being put together to make 0.5 ..surely it's normal to meet face to face to review what's been spent, budget for season and state of target list..if the management team weren't meeting then surely more cause for concern! Plus you have to be cautious over broadcasting your entire intentions but clearly this raises more conspiracy than update for some.

we definitely don’t need a starting right back. Or, (for fairness) ‘Sam Long hasn’t really kicked on as I’d wish,

Can’t understand people’s negativity around Sam, yes we need cover and to challenge for the RB position but Sam has done quite well as our RB

That was only given as an example of how the situation is fluid and can change. I think most can see that we have much bigger concerns than RB

My take on things, referring back to KR’s comments earlier this week: the recruitment of a centre-back and striker are top priority with an expectation that U23’s will supplement first team numbers. I am expecting an entertaining season and maybe dip at a play-off place but it could well be a struggle avoiding the lower half of the table. Recruiting to replace Nelson and a forward to complement Mackie will, I think tell us more about potential for this season in terms of competitiveness.

Sam Long did very well for us at the end of last season and surprised a few people, including me. But.... while he's fine as a squad player for 15-20 games/season, we need someone else there as first choice if we hope (?) to be top 8-10 next season. His lack of pace will always be an issue. If we released him, he would probably drop down to L2/ Conference.

To me it boils down to this, last season we were offered the same reassurances and the end result saw us in a relegation battle for two thirds of the season. This season, it feels too similar for comfort and I don't think it's unreasonable to express concern. I'll stop expressing concern when the promises are fulfilled. All I can do is to buy my season tickets and hope others do the same.

I'm happy that there are so many who feel more positively and I hope we're all dancing a Hamilton-esque jig of delight at the end of the season.

I know football is about opinions but I think you're wrong on pretty much every point there.

What a steaming pile of turd that article in the Ox mail is. Deja vu x100. Same old as last season's summer. Does Tiger and KR crdit us with no memory?! If we end up with someone like Sam Smith again, and all the a**e blowing KR did about him, we're in for a very tough start.

I know things take time, and that's ok. But to constantly say how we want to do business early, then change the goal posts and say we're looking at fresh targets means we're not competitive budget wise I'd say.

We had an amazing turn of form post January, and we're not that far off doing well again this season. But if we don't get two strikers in (and a CB of course), we could have another bad start, and that means playing catchup.

I think the implication of all these released comments from the club is that next season we WON’T be pushing for promotion. It will be a season of consolidation and development of the younger players. If you’re hoping for Championship football, guys, you’ll need to wait until 2021 at the earliest.

if the season started tomorrow then yes we would be in for a struggle. but we’ve got 4 weeks yet so would make sense to wait and see what the squad looks like once our dealings are done. if we line up with 1 cb and just Mackie as our striker then people have every right to moan but let’s give them a chance to finish building the squad before having a meltdown again

Now I had a slightly different perception of that interview. Chris Williams is no mug and, having seen what has been posted on here and knowing the way the fans react to gossip and rumour, wanted to present something of an update. We all heard about the "Recruitment strategy meeting" we know that Tiger will be at the Glasgow game, we know that we still haven't signed a striker so, Chris saw it as an opportunity to get the message across from the "horse's mouth" that things are in the pipeline, KR is looking and places importance on that looking, for a striker and a CB.
The old adage goes that if you only have bad news, say nothing. However, this forum will put it's own spin on nothing!
So, I am willing to believe that the club is very actively searching for the right players but, those players have got lots of suitors and wily agents and are still playing the waiting game. Let's see who blinks first. Thing is, nothing we say or moan about will change a damn thing. It will be what it will be. Lets face it, we are not the biggest, richest club and if some other club is willing to pay more, then we lose out. Not for want of trying. And, keep in mind the financial rules on how much we can pay.
Will admit though, I hate this waiting and constant searching of the web for any news! o_O
Can you re post this every hour - wise words :)

It’s possible that a player would choose the MLS for the lifestyle it brings. If he finds out the plan is to loan him out to an English club I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he told them where to stick it.

I can’t argue with anything you’ve said here but then maybe it would be best if Robinson didn’t make announcements in early May that recruitment would be done early this summer. All it does is raise false hopes, puts the club in a no-win situation, and people can’t help but perceive that things aren’t going to plan.

Robinson has actually won me over, I think he’s good for our club with the drive, enthusiasm and passion he brings but the flip side to that is he does sometimes say too much which puts pressure on the club and himself.

I know it’s a difficult balance, especially in this day and age, to keep the fan base informed on what’s going on but not promising too much.

Do you have a link?
I may have wrong, but my memory of what he said was that they wanted to do business early on the permanent signings, but the fans may have to be patient as things weren't always easy?
He also suggested that there would be some late deals for loanees

I agree. I can't see the point in signing for one club and then being loaned to another, when both clubs are likely to be offering similar deals in the first place. But as I say, football frequently shows that common sense is not very common.
