Ex-Staff Liam Manning

He signed the deal, so must have been happy with it, and at the time, his stock was low after navigating MK Dons to the verge of relegation. If he'd have asked for an improved deal, I am sure he would have gotten it.

I would have expected that someone that talks about integrity, professionalism and building something might stick around for longer than 5 minutes to finish the job he had started.

You're talking like a fan, rather than an employee. At the end of the day, LM was an employee.

Take the emotion out of it and there are very few factors to this deal that don't make sense from LM's perspective.

All managers talk in 'buzz' words. They all talk of planning, philosophies, cultures etc etc. I'm sure the majority on here are long enough in the tooth to see that those are just platitudes. It's not nice when you're on the receiving end of it like we are now, but i'm sure we won't be the last club and LM will not be the last manager to play out a situation like this.

Hopefully the 1200 going to Orient on Saturday will channel their fury into supporting the team vociferously, in the same way that some are speaking of a guy that did a good job in the short time he was here.

With respect, the board also only gave him a 1 year rolling contract. By definition, as a result LM only ever had limited security within his contract with OUFC.

If he was offered a 3.5 year deal, in a league higher with a bigger salary, but your existing employers only had enough faith to effectively give you a 12 month rolling contract from the outset - what would you do?

We can all be as emotional as we like but whether we like it or not, Grant and Tim did not protect the football club robustly enough with LM's contract. People won't like it, but that is the way of it and that is a contributing factor of why we are where we are. Hopefully lessons are learnt this time around.

FWIW, i don't think the situation is insurmountable. We are a very attractive job and i expect us to conduct a robust recruitment process and appoint a really exciting manager. One name that hasn't been mentioned but was to me by a friend just now - How about Ryan Mason? Young coach at Spurs who has acted as caretaker their already and is well thought of. It's not the worst shout i've heard.
To me this changes everything and I have no reason to doubt @ECYellow and I will take back some of the things I have said about Manning.
I think we all assumed he was on a longer contract, obviously we can’t compete with a 3.5 year deal and probably doubling or tripling the salary.
Now if the original contract was not renegotiated in the summer and he’s only on a 12 month rolling contract this was always on the cards once we got off to a good start.
He would be foolish not to go for the more secure job

Does a longer contract actually mean much? He can still be sacked on a whim and he wouldn't necessarily get paid the whole remaining term of the contract, according to knowledgeable people on here.

Not at all, I didn't expect loyalty, it has no place in football, or in the workplace, and I don't begrudge him the move, it's his perogative, but I also don't lay the blame at the feet of the board, what they did in the circumstances was completely reasonable.

They provided him with all the tools to be successful, all the resources he wanted and the guys shown zero staying power, instead opting for short term winnings, that is why I think the majority are irritated.

Feck that pair of Stefan Kuntz.
I trust the Board to get this right with the next manager, we need to be patient, no need to rush it.

More money is one thing, ive rejected roles for "more" but if the "3x more" figure is true then it's a really significant wad of cash being talked about. It's not an extra 5k a year.
But he's only 37, he's got plenty of time to actually achieve something, before simply chasing big money contracts at clubs who will never achieve anything.

If he'd got promoted with us, he would've had a promotion on his CV, and would've got either a new deal and a big pay rise with us, or an even bigger job elsewhere.

We gave him a route back into management after his sacking at MK Dons, and he repays us by dumping us in the s**t, as soon as someone waves a wad of cash under his nose.

I bet in his first interview at Bristol City, he'll be waffling on about creating a culture of integrity, honour, class and correct behaviours blah blah blah

Maybe the f*****g hypocrite should practice what he preaches.

I too have turned down jobs/promotions for a lot more money in the past, simply because I was happy where I was, even though it was a lot less money, and I don't regret my decisions for one minute, and I'm so glad I'm not burdened by a relentless desire for money, I don't value money at all, in fact I despise it, I earn enough to get by, and don't want or need any more, and I pity people who are motivated and corrupted by it.

Enjoy you're wedge Liam, f*****g loser.

Have we been caught with our pants down in terms of the rolling contract?

A lot of what you say maybe true but there was nothing to stop LM speaking to TW etc and saying I have an opportunity to go to Bristol City. The club could then have been given the option to give him a longer, much improved deal. Also, would having say three years left on his deal with us made difference to him wanting to stay? It may have got us more compo but I don't think it would have stopped him wanting out and ultimately leaving anyway.

Probably wouldn’t have changed anything but there is nothing stopping us from protecting our asset more robustly from the outset. We are business at the end of the day.
