A win tonight please. Just to keep the roll going. Big test Saturday.

And of course to celebrate the purchase/lease of the Triangle 🥳

I thought it was my broadband at first bloody stream was shite
Mine was crappy for first 10 minutes then bizarrely perfect for the rest of the game. I’ve just upgraded to fibre straight into house so pretty sure it’s not my end that’s wobbly.

Bit of a weird one. Players visibly not really making any effort. Not too fussed, as I never am by this competition until the final (although I do think we should definitley have an eye on winning it this year, weve shown we can beat anyone in our league), but it is a little surprising given how many of them you would think would (or should) be chomping at the bit for a first team place. Additionally, bar Woltman and maybe Smyth, that wasn't a starting lineup that you would have thought would look totally out of place were it to be named for a league game. Slightly concerning - a much-changed MK were deserving winners.

I like the look of Johnson. Here's hoping he can really kick on this season (although I suspect his playing time in the league will be limited if CB and MM continue their current veins of form). Goodrham and Murphy looked good and the central defensive pairing looked reasonably solid (as, to be fair, you would expect). Leigh is a great athlete and I liked the impetus he gave us when running powerfully with the ball but thought his distribution was a little suspect. Stevens I'm not sure about. Appreciate he's a young lad on his first loan and regular first team football, but, having seen him in a few games now, I'm not sure what he's particularly good at at the moment. Not great defensively, distribution isn't exactly mind-blowing, some questionable decision-making with ball at feet. Sam Long the current starter for me but, as has been mentioned by others over the last couple of weeks, RB seems the position most obviously ripe for improvement in January.

Minutes in legs either way and, even if we just draw against Chelsea U21s I think should go through (assuming Northampton beat them, which they should, and then lose at MK, which looks plausible). Bit of a dredge but hey ho - all eyes on Saturday now.

Although ours wasn't a kids team, I *think* we also made 10 changes from the team that started on Saturday.

I'm not a fan of this competition, but to use it to give 'fringe' players and those who need the game time a chance it is handy. Pity very few of them took their chance tonight.

Thought Woltman and Perkins were the opposite today, but both ineffective.

Woltman worked bloody hard, but nothing he did came off. Kept giving the ball away with wayward passing and/or control.
Perkins looked technically excellent, and kept and recycled possession well on the few occasions he got the ball - but he didn't put much of a shift in, and didn't seem willing to fight all that hard for possession. Disappeared completely after a promising first 15 as a result.

Not sure either of them are worth a place in the squad right now. If we keep the same starting XI, then a better bet for your bench is going to be Eastwood, Leigh, Stevens, Negru, McEachran or Smyth or Johnson (because you need a central midfielder, not because any of them shone today), Goodrham, Murphy.

And when Harris and GOD are back, they're both ahead of them as well........

Full times in Lge 1

Barnsley 2-3 Pompey
Posh 3-0 Cheltenham
Vale 2-3 Burton

Given tonight's performances, my team for Saturday:

Beadle
Long, Moore, Brown, Leigh
McGuane, Brannagan
Mills, Rodrigues, Edwards
Bodin.

Bench: Eastwood, Negru, Thorniley, Goodrham, Murphy, McEachran, Perkins.

Having not watched since the Bristol debacle I'm saying:

Like Perkins, good movement and that,
Leigh looks good,
Wtf happens to the first team if Beadle gets an injury, have to change the system totally. Need to replace Eastwood, darling man tho he be.
Goodrham is special good,
Thornily is worrying but it's refreshing to see a defence without Moore standing and watching the ball.

That's about it.
It's just a question of who starts with Moore don't understand your criticism of him.

What an absolutely lack lustre performance. Perkins and Woltman certainly won't have done themselves any favours this evening. Eastwood may be still a reasonable stopper but his feet are no use for anything other than standing on. Leigh was one of the few to stand out but he must have been missing his partner, Edwards something terrible. Every time he looked up to go down the line, nobody. I don't know if Perkins was supposed to play on the wing, if he was, then he needs a map and a compass (maybe a guide dog too)
Harris did what he could but he was a lone man up top for most of the game. Goodrham hustled and had a few runs but without others dragging defenders away, he constantly ran into trouble. Murphy, who replaced Goodrham, showed what we have not often seen and deserves more minutes.

All in all, not the game we wanted to watch after getting the go ahead on the Triangle.

Very poor show, l made the effort to attend but the players showed a clear lack of commitment even after we went behind. Only 3 subs used so lack of ideas from the management also.

The drive back on the A420 was more spirited

Imagine my surprise that we struggled at home against a well organised, pressing team at home, and had very little up front.

Josh Murphy isn't even a bencher next league game, he's a starter if on effort and form.

Only the papas, but lots of thinking for Manning to do.
