World Cup 20/08/2023: Women’s World Cup 2023 FINAL - Spain v England

Despite the much improved performance this half, England haven’t really created any chances. They need something.

Toone stayed on too long for me.

EDIT. If it stays 1-0, it would be such a shame for the winning goal to come from a Bronze error. She’s such a stalwart and as I’ve said she’s been unusually poor this game.

What a shame.

England got further than I expected especially without Mead, Kirby and Williamson but to lose still hurts.

It’s a hell of a story for Spain though what with the criticism of their coach. They play with such relentlessness that they deserved it. England just couldn’t create the chances to win it.

Did well to get to the final but it looked a step to far as Spain were a level above, we looked a bit Sunday league, desperate and clueless in the second half in trying to get level, just pumping it into the box or forward. No shame being beaten by the better team, just need to work on getting better technically.

You could really see the benefit of this Spain team having a lot of players in the same club team as well, they seemed to know each others games inside out.

Spain were quicker to any loose ball, however they spent more time rolling around on the grass than the ball. Time wasting, conning the ref, who was poor and generally trying to ruin the game, worked for them.

That's the best technical womens team I've seen. We had no answer to their close control and pass and go. Much better to lose against a superior opponent than lose against an inferior one.
Well said. Unlike many of the disappointments over the years with the men's team that was a defeat where England could not have done much more and were simply outplayed.
