Away Match Day Thread 22/7/2023 PS Friendly: Bristol City v OUFC

Has Bodin touched the ball? H'e the most frustrating player for me. He can be a real game changer, either scoring or creating chances. Yet, when he's not on it, he may as well not be on the pitch.

It is a little odd this game.
Playing a reserve team at a Championship club and playing a right back at leftback.
I wonder if we wish that we hadn't agreed to play 2 Championship clubs in 2 days? I am not sure that it is what Bristol City would have wanted either.

So today’s game only confirms what we already knew -
We probably have the makings of a competitive 1st eleven, but we have virtually nothing in reserve
I am.not sure that is true.
I would think that Negru, Stevens McGuane, Smyth, O'Donkor could be decent back up. But a reserve team not surprisingly, have been outclassed by a Championship team

Best thing to come of that is Woltman. Looks very useful in a squad that, looking at that, will struggle to cope with a few injuries.

Less said about Eastwood the better. Kids will benefit from that but please don't sign Freeman ffs. Let's finish the window the way we started it.

Disagree. We actually have some decent backup options. Just not altogether. Against a first choice championship team. Mad decision making to do that really.

I don't like the two games in two in two days, I can't see the benefits of it, it's all very Karl Robinson

Wonder if the club knew in advance that this would be streamed? There are reasons for playing behind closed doors and an important one is to experiment and allow youngsters to play without external pressure and judgement. So won't comment on the kids. Overall it was a total mismatch. Of the more senior players Bodin and Mguane did themselves no favours and the new slimmer Wildschut looked even less effective than last year. We'd never play so relentlessly from the back in a competitive game with Eastwood in goal and today showed why.

Absolutely.
One of the big problems today was the ball just didn’t stick up front. That allowed BC to keep piling the pressure on. It’s all very well having all these fast, mobile, high pressing forwards but we really need a target man who’ll hold the ball up and allow us to get up the pitch. O’Donkor couldn’t do that against Dickie today unfortunately. A LB with a left foot would also be nice.
