I still think we need two good strikers, and a robust no nonsense defensive midfielder, and a decent left back.

I’d try and offload Seddon, Henry, and Wildshutt. That might be harder than we think. You can only get rid of someone if someone wants them. I was hoping Henry would have gone to Gills, but that never materialised. Sam Baldock won’t be going anywhere, and I imagine he will retire this time next year.

He'd surely take all our budget. No point having a great goalscorer up front (who might not even fit he way we want to play, he's not very mobile) if it means we have Seddon and Long starting at wingback, no back up striker, no midfield brute in the squad and a load of flighty wingers who'll be injured at some point.

Can't see there being anything in it. The reasoning that "we've got a history of bidding for Posh players" is incredibly flimsy. I do my shopping at Aldi but have absolutely no loyalty to them if Lidl have the same stuff cheaper. It's not like we're getting clubcard points every time we shop at Peterborough. It's not how a proper club does things and is the same sort of attitude that leads to people suggesting Eastwood and Baldock should be coaches because we've heard of them, heavens forbid we venture outside what we know, even when what we know hasn't been working.
He probably would unless the owners gifted us the money to but him as I’m sure there would be enough in the budget to pay him a decent wage and still have plenty for other olayers

Gavin Whyte?
If we’re to think about signings that tick every box, he has to go closer than almost any name we’ve been discussing so far. The amount of itches his arrival would scratch for us is endless. I’d love to think the club see it the same way. Was Waldron involved when we picked him up initially? Presumably he will be telling Manning exactly how good he is.

‘Isn’t keen’ could mean different things. He might have said ‘I’m not keen on the drop down I think I’m good enough for the championship but if it happens I’ll give it 100%’ or alternatively he might have said ‘I’m not keen, f**k ‘em, I’m way too good for League One’. Either way I trust Manning to make the right decision.

If TB thinks he's to good to drop down a league to start playing weekly that's his choice I'd rather want players playing for us that have hunger and fight in them to succeed
You never know if what u read in the papers is correct. It might be a case of Millwall accepting the bid but the player not yet agreeing terms?

Exactly, if we signed Whyte, you'd hope that with him and Rodriguez, any half decent striker would score a hatful. On a free, he's got to worth a decent wage.

The pace of them two would scare most defences in this league, it would be a welcome change to see us actually counter teams with raw pace rather than the slow, sideways buildup we got served up previously.

Since leave us 1st time Whyte has played 61 games (4 of them back on loan to us) and scored 5 goals. If it was any other player fans would be questioning why we were signing a player who’s career has clearly gone backwards since 2019.
I think we can do better than Whyte now.

This is what made me laugh (or cry), when some fans criticized Whyte for not scoring enough goals when he was here on loan. I may be wrong, but I think that season Whyte was in the top handful of players in terms of goal involvements, created + scored. Yes, he missed a few sitters but if it weren't for him, we would have been mid-table.

It’s a challenge to suggest someone better than Gavin Whyte that’s obtainable for us and won’t cost a fee.

In between what you’ve said is the detail. We know this lad incredibly well - we know that his absence from the cardiff side won’t be down to a lack of work ethic, bad attitude etc. He’s continued to be part of his national side and the season he was here, I personally thought he was every bit as good as Sykes who got a lot of the plaudits and a decent move.

Cardiff, by the way, wouldn’t know a decent player if it ran at them with a bluebird and smacked them around the face with it. A club in complete demise that’s had terrible recruitment stretching back a good few years now, not to mention a succession of managers who only know one way to play the game and if your face doesn’t fit, your life is made a misery. Cardiff fans have always liked him and wondered what he had to do to play. Unlike Ciaran Brown, for example, who was played regularly and eventually laughed out the door before becoming a key member of our team. We’d have said ‘we can do better’ when he arrived - people now think he’s a superstar.

I’d genuinely do a Robinson and throw him in at RWB if we got a capable enough centre back on that side. Whyte overlapping an on-song Murphy. Good lord. Fantasy, maybe.

He was nowhere near the top was my recollection. I think he was around 50th in the league.

Edit - I make it 58th according to this https://fbref.com/en/comps/15/2021-2022/stats/2021-2022-League-One-Stats

I think the fact he was so bad in front of goal made people overrate his creativity. He's also got no history of goalscoring really, he's been in England half a decade now and a quarter of all his goals came in that freak game away at Shrewsbury.

He was top in our assists chart, with around a dozen I think. He wasn’t haring down the right wing so much, not sure if that was tactical or if he’s lost his pace

If we signed Whyte and a decent Striker, we would only really need to have a couple good full/wing backs to be a top 6 side this season. A few other players out and in. Hopefully Manning can get the best out of Browne, and I have a feeling that Murphy will be trying hard so that he can secure a decent deal at the end of the season.

KR didn't play him consistently and when he did, he was never in a settled position.
