It’s hard to judge because in my opinion the premier league has improved drastically since those days.
I dunno…

John Aldridge was recently asked if the great Oxford United team that went through the leagues under Jim Smith would beat the current Man City side. He answered yes.

Interviewer: What would the score be?

Aldridge: 1:0

Interviewer: Close score then..?

Aldridge: Well we’re all in our sixties now…

We could, except he's probably earning more than our manager knowing KR. So how will that dynamic work? Besides, didn't someone say he wasn't interested in coaching and wanted to get in to recruitment? May have dreamt that but sod it, may as well ask him to do something.

Robinson effectively gave up half way through the season before last. Totally fucked up the season just gone, and did his cretinous best to wreck and hamper the chance of any success this coming season.

As for Baldock we’re stuck with him whether we like it or not. All this talk of coaching the strikers or getting into recruitment is fine but we have absolutely no idea if he is any good at either. Being an ex pro doesn’t guarantee anything. How much experience does he actually have at coaching and/or recruitment?

Surely if we paid Baldock off then he wouldn't lose any money at all. He would get a years salary either way whether he's at the club or not. If we were to pay up his contact, then that would free up space for any new signings.
Or am I missing something.

His wages still come out of next seasons playing budget, which is a bigger issue than freeing up a space.

Yes you are missing the fact that whilst you’re paying Baldock say 3/4 k a week you then can’t get another player in if you don’t have that money.
That’s 150/200 k less budget for the year.
Same applies to Henry and Murphy and Wildshutt but at least they might get them to move on whereas Baldock is nowhere near if ever being” on the grass” to quote the manager who has put us in the s**t with these contracts

Manning wants to sign 3/4 wing backs as he wants to switch to a back three if we can get the recruitment right, but we need to get a couple of players out first to free up the budget (Seddon as well as Yanic would help), given we also need a couple of strikers who are going to cost a decent wedge.
Makes me wonder why we got rid of Anderson then, as he'd have been ideal. Seddon might be ok as (back-up) wing back too.

Yanic is currently being punted around and and every league in Europe in the hope of getting rid of him. Nobody wants Murphy as he’s earning too much.

The board is currently not keen to pay off Baldock and he isn’t insured so can’t be retired on someone else’s dime. He’s got no incentive to walk away for anything less than 100% of his final year as he’s finished, so we either pay the lot or he stays here and limps about while completing his degree.

We’ve knocked back approaches for Stevens and are currently putting him through specialist physio for a shoulder issue.

Believe or dismiss. Up to you.
Not gonna argue but if he wants 3 or 4 wing backs wouldn't Seddon do as a reserve?

Thanks , any news on Stuart Findlay's plans ?

Not sure if mentioned but Josh McEachran has left MK, one of their better players who Manning brought in and was born in Oxford. Ball playing midfielder who can dictate play.

Wonder if Manning might be tempted.
His younger brother George had a good 6 mths at Scum after coming through Chelsea yth as well ...and around 22/23 so a good age

If Williams and Ferguson are blocking paying off contracts and releasing players and then, also claiming that development squad players are fully fledged pro's, we are in the s**t. Right up to our eyeballs.
Not withstanding the dung heap that Robinson assembled, the two highest management figures in the club are now demonstrating their ineptitude and lack of understanding for what should be second nature - let the folk who know what they are doing, do their job.
Having finally got rid of Robinson, they appear to be now set upon retaining the mess he created.

I’d be amazed if we weren’t interested. Tennai Watson too.

I don’t disagree. If it was up to me, Tim would be on the phone to the owners with his tail between his legs owning his mistakes and asking for the money to undo the mess he’s made. More chance of us winning the league. Then again, who in their right mind would give him any more? We’re in a vicious cycle now that’ll be difficult to break without a change of personnel. Does anybody trust or believe in each other? Waldron needs to be a short term miracle worker to allow Manning the flexibility he needs.

Makes me wonder why people worry about getting mortgages when they could just pay for the house up front and not spend their wages on monthly repayments
I was told Baldock ws on a very much pay as you play geared contract. If so , surely he should be paid up?
What’s the benefit to us?

They should both go as well
