Home Match Day Thread +++ 06/01/2018 OUFC v Blackpool match day thread +++

But Eastwood saving a 25 yard shot is not a ‘chance’. They tested him from distance in the 2nd half but didn’t create a chance. The save in the 1st half was save from a chance

A suggestion that every shot is a missed chance is almost a Steve Evans like

Okay... let’s put it a different way, they severely tested our keeper and we (the home team) didn’t test theirs.

Surely, if you test the keeper you are giving yourselves a chance? I don’t follow your logic.

Absolute rubbish to say Blackpool would have won by three or four; we missed a number of glaring opportunities as well. A number of players had very dodgy games- eg Ruffels needs a rest, Payne was well off colour .

Our passing was poor and we seemed to struggle with the 50-50 challenges .

However we gritted it out and the last 20 minutes was encouraging. We certainly seem to be learning how to shut games off once we’ve taken the lead.

Stand outs were Eastwood, Martin , Carroll and Ledson.

Enjoyed Canice stirring the crowd up midway through second half. The lad has a great will to win.

I think the team are doing well considering our dreadful injury list and they deserve much more support from some of our more miserable supporters .

As does Pep. He seems to be getting some of his mojo back.

They had 4 great shots requiring 4 great saves. you cannot compare that to the times we got the ball in their area. Are you saying that their keeper had to pull off class saves like Eastwood had to?

I can't recall shots requiring one outstanding save from their keeper. Miserable?

The reason why i get fed up with the relentless sideways passing in our own half is simple, we often lose the ball, and then have to defend even deeper , and I have yet to see any goals scored from 10 yards from our own goal line

It’s not what people want to believe but I thought he was defensively excellent today and his distribution was vastly improved

On the other flank Canice’ distribution was awful but he will improve game by game

Disagree on Carroll, he dealt with his winger pretty well and at least he got forward a fair bit. His distribution was no worse than any others and far better than some (Jack Payne and Josh Ruffels surprisingly spring to mind).

As for Tiendalli, generally his tackling and positioning when defending in the box was good. However, his distinct lack of pace was clearly evident and exploited again.

And I think that is the point here.

I’m not going to say we got away with one because at the end of the day Eastwood did his job and he did it bloody well.

It was not as though they missed absolute sitters and we just got lucky, but for large parts of that game we were second best.

That is not us being miserable Tim, it’s just an honest assessment.

Carroll was one of the positives; with Obika and the saviour Eastwood. Otherwise it was a dire escape.

We press as individuals, the midfield is tied to the defense by a rope 4 yards long. Our players break with the threat of a kitkat. I can see why Blackpool were fighting in the changing room after being done over by our lot.

Gino van Kessel is the Yemi of the 21st century; if, as my elves aver, he is the second-highest earner he needs to be released. He is (apart from the comedy passing) a true waste of air.

Mowatt needs to go - busted. Payne was awful in the first half, Ruffels had one of his worst games ever.

Very lucky win, down to Eastwood.

Don't be childish. Great we won, but sorry didn't have my rose tinted specs on today, too cold. If you were there then you would have seen a game where our passing was woeful and players were too long out of position. If it wasn't for Eastwood, then Blackpool could have had 3 or 4. This was the view of the majority of texts/tweets to Jerome after the game as well.

You are a clever troll, but not as clever as you think. Very transparent.

Or if we had taken ours (possibly the best chance of the match) it could have been different! People love looking at the negatives more than the positives

Sorry bigfella there were not many positives today, I would go as far as to say 90% of todays game were negative. and the best chance of the match I assume you mean GVK debacle of an attempt of 1 on 1 which could have made a difference, then yes things were different but guess what he fluffed it big time and that alone was worth a moan.

Not trying to be negative... I just thought their chances came before ours?

I stand corrected if we missed an opportunity before theirs.
The Gino thru on goal with the chance to shoot or pass to Wes in the first 10 mins

I know bazzer but I’ve seen so many posts saying we could have lost by 3 but we also could have won by 3, that’s why we love this game so much we put ourselves thru it.

We won a poor game between 2 not particularly great teams but at least we ground out a result when we haven't done that much at all. Nice to see a good goal (superb cross by Mowatt) from a set piece for us for a change!

Thought as a unit the defence did pretty well today albeit there were dodgy moments (eg. the free header at the back post in the 2nd half). Eastwood had an excellent game and was my motm with a couple of stunning saves.

The midfield was a bit all over the place having some good moments followed by shockers. Jack Payne had a very poor game today with his passing in particularly mainly seeming to find their player. That said I hope we persevere with JP as a wide player as there were promising signs vs MK Dons.

Jon Obika had a good game upfront. Wes Thomas battled but he was far too selfish; I can understand once as a striker but 3 times when other players are in far better positions is ridiculous, especially as against better opponents it would probably cost us the game.

yes bigfella we could have one by three but we didn't and that was in part down to unprofessionalism or wanton greed and tbh that is why people are moaning and being negative,

Hopefully by Tuesday this negativity we are seeing on the pitch will change dramatically to a positivity, although I wont be to bothered if we lose on Tuesday but please OUFC lose positively,

I thought we played well 2nd half. We battled hard and won lots of 2nd balls
If Thomas could pass we would have won by a couple more.

I couldn’t believe Thomas did not play a pass to a team mate
when in great positions today. He and the unpredictable , sometimes
calamitous van Kessel squandered great opportunities. Clotet needs to have a word or two
in the ears of his strikers -they could have cost us today with their profligacy.

dunno what game that was although in the last quarter of the game we did play better.

Blimey what does that mean? have to agree Thomas should have passed, van Kessel I'll let him off as he was good against Bradford and MK
