Manager/Coach KREXIT: The 'Robbo Out' thread.

Clotet brought in far worse players than Robinson.
Big difference was Clotet had a shoestring budget, very limited time to bring people in and a far worse foundation to work with. He still manged to put together a team that delivered some impressive results albeit inconsistent and hard to watch football. This is where Robinson has no excuse as he's had about 9 transfer windows and huge budgets at his disposal yet we're worse off than when he started.

I'm pretty adamant that Karl should have been gone a while back, but even I'm uncomfortable with the suggestion that he is worse than Clotet!

I genuinely think we could have done a better job managing by committee than Clotet did. Absolute maniac with 100% banter signings...

I suppose there’s always a chance KR could walk if anything personal starts to weigh on him as clearly as it seems to be doing professionally. If I’m honest I hope he gets through this and turns it around but not so sure he will.

People quite rightly remember the shite like Tiendalli, Xemi and Gino but under Clotet's watch we also got Henry, Brannagan, Dickie and Mous who have been great servants as well as Ricardinho and Mowatt and Payne on loan so I'd argue it was no worse than what we've done in the last couple of windows.

Henry was a done deal with Appleton. He still signed regardless.

Yeah that does ring a bell now, it was far enough ago and I've purged most of it from my memory. I'm not saying Clotet was any better than Robbo has been by any stretch, he was mega crap but we did get some good players through the door still. I'm sure I also recall adickie being more to do with Tiger but might be mistaken.

Clotet got 29 games with us. Believe we was 10th on 38 points. 8 off the play offs, 8 off the relegation zone

A very sensible post.

The board will be very reluctant to make a public show of things that could come with a sacking, Robinson will have time to either massively turn things around or put things in order (privately and professionally) and a proper recruitment process can start, even if only to identify potential candidates.

I appreciate that there will be some that want him gone immediately, and wouldn't afford Robinson a moment longer to try to put things right. But there's an opportunity to act in a way that is respectful to all parties, whilst still getting an opportunity to move forward.

I guess time will tell.

I appreciate the reasoning behind your post relating to acting in a respectful manner. Certainly, from the club’s POV they will not want any animosity that comes with a disgruntled, egotistical 3rd division journeyman getting the sack.

That said, I do not think OUFC have been anything but respectful to Robinson throughout his tenure. Moreover, I’d go as far as to say he’s had it bloody good with us.

With that, his poor performance (19 points from the last 19 league games) and his apparent misdemeanours in mind; I’d be of the opinion that OUFC have to wait no longer to bite the bullet and offer no more respect than an employees should receive from their employer, at the time of their dismissal.

A dickie bow?

Have we really now got people suggesting Clotet was unlucky here and if given time would be better than Robinson?!

I know I said fans had short memory’s when it came to wilder but some people must have very short memory’s if you don’t remember the performances under Clotet! Wigan at home and Port Vale in the FA cup just being 2 examples!!

Henry was signed by the recruitment team in the summer and Brannagan and Dickie were the same in January, even though Clotet was manager by that time. He then refused to pick them out of protest as he wanted to sign the likes of f**king Kemi Agustien instead and got sacked for his troubles.

The players that Clotet signed off his own back (so to speak - Eales ultimately sanctioned the deals) were Williamson, Tiendalli, Ricardinho, Pekalski, Mehmeti, Xemi and van Kessel. All the rest were done by the recruitment team with the approval of Eales or Dave Jones. Jones left the week that Tiger hired Robinson in March 2018.

Pep Clotet would’ve relegated us had he been left in his post until the end of the season. I have absolutely no doubt about that what so ever.

I don't think that's the style of the board, nor the image they want to present as they look long term towards the stadium and beyond.

Equally, I don't think it's fair to describe Robinson as an egotistical 3rd division journey man. Up until the last 6 months he has been the figurehead for the club, and has (up until recently) presented well throughout covid, particularly reaching out to vulnerable fans during the first lockdown, the loss of Jim Smith, Mickey and Joey, and within all of the community projects. All of these have helped with the clubs image as we move towards the new stadium. He will have credit in the bank from the board, and whilst they may well be looking at other options, they will want to do this the right way by everyone - including Robinson.

Clotet was utterly, completely, absolutely useless. The Wigan 0-7 was the single worst performance I have seen in 45+ years. He should have been fired for signing Tiendalli alone. KR is miles ahead of Clotet, but KR's time has come to an end. I've never met him, but I've had the very strong impression in the last six months that he's found the pressure too much. I think he's happier managing a club with lowish expectations. I don't think he did himself any favours with the podcast. I don't care how 'passionate'he is. He appeared chaotic and disorganised. The summer recruitment was a shambles. I also don't think he knew how to handle a budget. Some of the football in the last four years has been great, but it's time for him to go.
