Summer 2018 Official Transfer Thread ****

You make some interesting points, but rather spoil any notion of reasoned debate with silly remarks like "A bloke from Kings Lynn" and "won a magazine competition". One would almost think you've made your mind up.
No I haven't made my mind up. And I really hope I'm wrong. But I just see good players leaving and (at best) unproven players arriving. And btw, I was in a hurry when I typed this, and am useless at remembering names at the best of times. But it doesn't alter the fact that our five signings so far are:
1. A well rated loanee who might be recalled at xmas
2. A player from a tier six club
3. A free transfer from Southampton
4. A free transfer from Mansfield
5. A Sunday League player who won a competition in 442 magazine
Putting their names in doesn't make my concerns any less valid

My Tiger BS-Ometer is nudging 11.
Am ignoring all the Pep Euro-dross.
But out goes:
Ledson
Rothwell
Ricardinho (probably)
Kane
And in comes:
Carruthers (on loan)
A bloke from King's Lynn
Three young players, one of whom couldn't get a contract with Mansfield, while another has won a magazine competition....

And in five days, we're off to Ireland. And all managers want their players in place for pre season. So either:
1. We keep being rejected by loads of top L1/Championship players, or...
2. 4-5 proper players are signing in the next five days, or....
3. Tiger actually doesn't have the money to back up all the bluster

My bet is on (3)

Ledson pretty much agreed to stay in January knowing he would go this summer, got a championship club nearer home and we got a decent price for him.

Rothwell our of contract and appearances were not get due to injuries, got a championship club nearer home and we still got money for him.

Ricardinho is ok, but not someone we would be building a squad around. No panic either way.

Kane is on massive wages for us with a year to go at PL club. He would be great, but could me too expensive or taken by a championship club.

So, basically, no surprises to anyone that they've either gone or unlikely to return.

We've made some decent signings for the under 23 team, and brought in Samir. We've also extended the contract of Eastwood, and got Sam Long for another year. Not amazing, but could be a Hell of a lot worse.

So chill out a little and stop worrying about what won't happen!!

The three young lads are U23 players. Just be patient, the season doesn't start tomorrow

Can appreciate what your saying scotch but as I’ve said July 1st it could be a case of .......” have we....”

Are you, or are you not, privy to insider information. If not, then stop posting these meaningless comments. Credit us with a certain amount of intelligence please.

I know one or two things (we targetted Matt Godden and Lyle Taylor) but more generally i think its obvious that having originally set out our stall to be active and do business early, even talk of paying contracts to start early, to have one permanent first team signing on board.....

I think becoming concerned about the state of our playing squad is normal. The problem is we know Karl wanted to do business early. So I think most fans would’ve expected a bit more movement by now. But we don’t know if Tiger is actually capable of funding Karl’s and our ambitions.
One could’ve argued a few weeks ago that other clubs are in the same position as us however there’s been movement from other clubs now. The transfers done is growing day by day.
I’m still not panicking but I think fans should be concerned. Is it that the players we’re after a so good that many clubs are in for them. Clubs bigger and with more clout than us? Are we aiming too high? Or is it that Tiger doesn’t have the funds to pay the wages that will bring them here.
On the positive side perhaps we’ll have an amazing week and we’ll all be buzzing by Friday.

I don't know how much you think was wrong at the club but frankly, you're being hyper-critical.

Whilst you play on the one 'permanent' signing card, we also brought in an established first team player from a Championship club. Mock the loan system all you want and ignore it, but it's significant.

I guess the re-signing of Simon Eastwood is equally unimportant to the 'transfer business' we've done this season.

Last time I checked Lyle Taylor was still a Wimbledon player but I suspect we're after better than him. In fact, we are after better than him. Tiger also went on to say, with regards to a specific loan target, which I understood to be agreed some time ago, he wants to buy the player now instead - let's give the club and owner some credit for trying to turn that potential deal into a permanent signing (we'll give you the credit for that GUK because no doubt Tiger is concerned with your criticism of lack of permanent signings).

We are due to sign some players this week. They won't all be kids, they will be some players with serious experience.

And whilst you wish to concentrate solely on the first team picture, the club are investing heavily in the U23 squad. Hardly been inactive, have they?

If we get to July and there is no significant movement, then it is time to worry I think. Why would anyone want to pay players during June to sit around playing Fortnite, if cash IS tight and it can be avoided?

Genuine question - is it possible that transfer business was concluded and pre-contract agreements early, but deals don't start till July? . . . Here's hoping anyway!!

We do have 1 permanent first team signing on board and that is Cameron Norman.

Also funded a pre season training camp for the u23 separate to the first team so that squad can bond and get the training in they need. Some serious investment going into the u23

Im really not trying to criticise. I think theres good stuff going on. Just saying that our original plans havent come to fruition for various reasons.

Would Tiger not have had to prove to the football league that he has money to be approved as an owner?
I thought that was part of the 'right and proper person' test or whatever they call it.

I heard Mr Donald say in an interview that he had to prove to the EFL that he had £50m available in order for them to sign off the deal to buy Sunderland.
So wouldnt Tiger have had to do the same when buying us?

My prediction is 1 more loan and 2 permanents in by Friday with more to follow next couple of weeks.
(not claiming to be ITK!)

Sunderland’s financials/projections showed the club has a significant cashflow requirement
in order to get through the next few months.

Donald would have to have shown proof of his financial standing to fund Sunderland
through the cashflow pressures the club has and beyond. There are some huge contractual
Obligations and liabilities to manage.

Look let’s get this right. We all know Charlie Methven is the money man there.

you missed out the "k" there . . .

I still think SD is actually the organ grinder in that arrangement.
But he does have Sartori onboard, can’t help but think if Sunderland do well and show good investment and recruitment, we can only but wonder.

That's the model, deviate from it and we die.
