Matches 2022-23 Fixtures

With them fixtures in August & September there’s NO EXCUSES FOR A SLOW START (unlike the previous 4 years under KR)

Even if Derby beat us there looks plenty of early games where we can recover and rack up points. Could be a very good time to play Derby, of course they will be up for it but we have had plenty of these sort of tests against 'big' teams in L1 and generally done well. It wont phase us, that's for sure.

Probably the best opening fixture we could have asked for with Derby still in a mess. Hopefully makes 3 points at Pride Park much easier for us than our rivals when they inevitably regroup part way through the season like Bolton did a few years back.

I'm predicting 5 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat from the opening 8.

A tricky period leading into Boxing Day - Barnsley (H) and Wednesday and Ipswich (A) back to back. All three of them will be up there this season so genuine possibility of us all getting 0 points in 3 games as our Xmas present from OUFC (or 9 points from 3 games taking us clear at the top) 😅

Is it too early for me to make a thread tracking the promotion battle again...?

Sods law that the easiest game of the season for me - 10min bus journey - is whilst I'm on holiday. Saying that, regardless of their squad position come then, I'm sure Pride Park will be bouncing. They'll revel in the "underdog" type tag that they'll be given if they are still woefully lacking in players.

I've got 5 L1 grounds left to do - 1 falls when at test match, 2 on Tuesday nights, 1 on Boxing Day. Least Cambridge looks doable.
No northern awayers on a Tuesday which is unusual, they've shoved Plymouth and Pompey on to Tuesday's instead.
The flip side of that is, most of the close games (for me) are very doable - Burton, Vale, Lincoln etc.

December and our last 8 look particularly tough.

2 guys on the Derby forum predicted this fixture 10 hours ago. Bit spooky.

Last season was a good start.
It was certainly better than previous seasons, and I guess it depends on how long you define the 'start' of the season to be, but after 10 games we'd had a mid-table start. All of those promoted (and I think all but one of the play-off teams) were above us.

Yes a tough christmas but at least the Barnsley fixture is at home. Three points from those three games, on the face of it, wouldn't be the worst return and theres a chance we could get them in the first game, take the heat off the Wednesday and Ipswich games and anything in those two would be a bonus !

As with last season, our away trip to Plymouth comes within 3 days of another away trip (Morecambe last season, Shrewsbury this time).

If we are up near the top of the table after Christmas, all the home games from Plymouth on February 14th onwards could potentially attract crowds of more than 10,000.
