General New Stadium Plans - Stratfield Brake

Same issues for some of the (same) people, and also 'new' issues for others too + easier access for some - swings 'n roundabouts, ( in ,Oxford traffic lights .....& constant roadworks too)

One good point (& there isn't many) about the breeze block is the sizeable carpark (inc overflow) .... parking WILL be limited , certainly in comparison , at Stratfield Brake ..... though the drive in/ through PCR test area currently located in OX Parkway P& R will free up some car parking spaces near-ish to SB
The number 2 and 2a buses run every ten minutes from Magdalen Street including Saturdays, and drop off at Water Eaton and Kidlington Garden city. Simply walk over the new pedestrian walk ways and into the stadium. Couple of pints in town and off to the game.

If you live east Oxford,
That's 2 bus journeys.4 in total there &back on a Saturday match day .
Nightmare!!

Imagine having to get on two busses - they best cancel the project.
Not me I don't drive.
I use public transport so I know what it's like & used to it.
It'll be the be lazy b******s that use there cars to go to the shop around the corner that'll be crying

..... all so well and good IF you're in town (City Centre) on a Matchday ( which arent always on Saturday afternoon) ...... If you're in OX3 not so good .... the current 700 service ( which only runs weekday daytimes) , goes from The Headington hospitals to Kidlington (inc calling at Ox Parkway ) and back .... IF the 700 ran on Matchdays ( Saturday avos / Tuesday eves .... and obviously 'other' days/ evenings if OUFC are in the Championship, to suit TV schedules for televised matches).... that would sort/ suit some supporters based in / around OX3 - which is where OUFC began, and were based, until 20 years ago

I can only assume Andy Mitchell is against the development because he went big on what John Hill said whilst not challenging it which would have taken 5 minutes of research to debunk as rubbish. He quoted Councillor Simpson but that didn't really properly debunk the nonsense put forward by John Hill. I think the club/owners have to counter this nonsense now before it becomes the narrative as the local media are quoting John Hill quite a bit in these articles, frankly the sooner the better.

I have now received a reasons from Layla Moran MP following my email request to ask her to publicly support the OUFC discussions. A reasonable and as expected non committal response but at the very least no officials are dismissing this as a non starter. I take that as a big positive.

Thank you for your email regarding the proposals for a new stadium in Kidlington.

A number of residents have contacted me on this matter, which is why it is so important that Oxfordshire County Council have paused their decision whilst they listen and consult residents. They have launched a four-week consultation starting tomorrow and running until February 21.

I am liaising with local councillors and we are actively listening to residents. We are hoping to organise a site visit in the coming weeks.

Best wishes,
Layla

The way we are looking at the new stadium is that there will be a huge improvement on the hospitality offers available. A supporters club, bars, restaurants etc. Living in Stanford in the Vale, we'll have to drive but, using the park and ride at Water Eaton (or Pear Tree) will be simple. It may well prove feasible to operate a shuttle service from car park to stadium. This would be a bonus for the less able bodied and for when the weather is not so good.
Being able to plan on getting to the ground earlier and enjoying a pre-match meal or a drink in a decent facility will make all the difference.

M'yep. But we have to spoon-feed the OM journalists, they aren't encouraged to do research these days. Poor b****r was probly just trying to fill a word number.

This from Oxfordshire Live is amusing:

Ethics policy

The maintenance of high editorial standards is at the core of OxfordshireLive's business philosophy.

Reach PLC, OxfordshireLive's parent company, is a member of and is regulated by IPSO, the Independent Press Standards Organisation.

Our journalists work according to The Editors’ Code of Practice, which sets the benchmark for ethical standards in journalism and is enforced by IPSO. On joining OxfordshireLive, all editorial staff complete a training course in the Code and legal refresher training.

At OxfordshireLive, we recognise that protecting the rights of the individual consistently comes into conflict with the public’s right to know. This means we have to make difficult judgements, sometimes quickly, which are impossible to get right all of the time. Regular bulletins and seminars give staff the best opportunity to learn from mistakes, whether our own or those of other parts of the media industry.

We are a launch partner of The Trust Project, an international initiative to make it easier for readers to find out more about the organisations and the people providing them with news, and to support quality journalism.

You have to take two bus journeys to get to the Kassam from Abingdon, I know that as I used to do it. And I think the same can be said for almost any town or village in Oxfordshire, as you need to get one bus to the city centre and then another out to BBL.

I think Stratfield Brake is easier to get to from virtually anywhere else in the county than the Kassam is due to Oxford Parkway being next door, except east Oxford. Although granted, a lot of people and OUFC fans do live in east Oxford which isn't ideal, but then as I've said it's been a lot more difficult for anyone outside of east Oxford while we've been at the Kassam.

Also, you could always get a bus to the city centre and then a 5 minute train, which would likely be quicker than taking another bus.

S I've stated before woodfarm to Kidlington take over 1 hour.
The train is very handy quickthey run every half an hour.
You still got to get to train station though.

With the already planned improvements to the roads around Pear tree and Kidlington there shouldn't be any need to drive through Kidlington at all. Access to the car parks at Oxford Parkway and Water Eaton park and ride would always be via the A34 with connections from the A40 and A44. These are all dual carriageway and shouldn't present any problem.

A34 up to the M40 and down to the Cutteslowe sections, where many home fans will head after a game, have motorway volume traffic, frequent accidents and long queues.
All good balancing that with P&R is fine, but you will still be increasing car journeys "somewhere" unless there are onward football buses from the P&R to the suburbs.

5 minutes though to put their name to something. I'd put in more effort/time 10 minutes research for school work back in the day.

Jesus. The last 2/3 of that could have been written by an AI fed by the meeting transcript. No journalist necessary.

Yes, and it also takes over an hour to get to the Kassam on public transport for anyone who lives in the majority of towns and villages in Oxfordshire.

The train station is a 5 minute walk from Carfax where you'd get off the bus? (Edit - come to think of it doesn't the number 1 and/or 5 actually go to the train station?)
