General New Stadium Plans - Stratfield Brake

It's been mentioned here that Populous are likely to be the architects and design may similar to that of Minnesota United's 19,800 capacity stadium that opened in April 2019. So I've spent all of ten minutes googling it!

Firstly, the stadium shape and roof is similar to the masterplan we saw on Monday, see Google earth below.

Secondly, another reason why it's design, materials and construction techniques may be copied with tweaks for Stratfield Brake is that it took only 20 months to build! 😯

Of course, sourcing materials, contractors and building regs may be different in England but it appears to be possible.

We can give the away fans the open end, a nice homage to the Cuckoo Lane terrace.

Why is there a need for an open end? Loses atmosphere and as for the British climate…….

of course if it’s the away end, then I’m fully supportive of it.

This will be a controversial question but will anyone feel abit sad that we will be leaving the kassam.now before anybody says the usual please remember that for alot if our fans the kassam has been the only home they've known for oufc .
I will personally feel abit sad because weve had alot of good times at the kassam eg
Newcastle x2
Swindon every time they've played there except last season
Wycombe promotion to league one
Swansea fa cup
Rushden 2010
I know the place is a s**t hole I know to alot of people it's never felt like home but it's been our home kind of

I’ll miss Chunks pies if we get different caterers in…

Regarding a potential name, how about a traditional approach. We’ve all heard of The Dell, The Valley etc and of course The Manor. So how about The Brake.

Simple, quirky and memorable. Also an interesting dictionary definition, you live and learn:

noun: brake; plural noun: brakes
  1. a thicket.
Adds to the theme of Oxfordshire’s rural/green qualities? And any sponsor can just put their name in front of it.

As mentioned above, no mention of a supporters club in the plans, I hope one is included as an income generator for the club, we were always in the one at The Manor on non-matchdays.

Never ever had that tingle down my spine that I got walking into the London Road under the old arch.
Had exiting games at Grenoble Road and loved beating the scum there but the stadium just didn’t do it.
Now if we could incorporate some walkway into the new stadium that really would be something
Absolutely agree that the architects should design in some iconic view or approach. The lack of that at Grenoble road was a massive fail. Each time I’ve made it back for a game from the other side of the world I’ve taken a photo of my son in front of the stadium and all of them look crap. There’s no tingle, and feeling of “here we go” as you approach. There are stadia which I have no allegiance to where I get that feeling, so it must be a matter of design.

Totally agree, never got the same buzz you would get first seeing the lit floodlights at the Manor as you got nearer walking up Windmill Road, building further as you walked up the little lane to the London Road turnstiles.

Looking at the plans it does appear there is a walkway leading from the train station (bottom right), across the new bridges and gets progressively wider as you reach the stadium. Lets hope they paint those bridges yellow and blue, and plant tons of daffodils either side of the path all the way so its a blaze of yellow when it gets to the end of season around March/April time! Maybe they could lay the path with yellow bricks 😆 I would hope nearly everything on site would have a yellow and blue theme so that visitors have no doubts where they are, unlike the mundane desolation that is The Kassam.

I think Oxford City Council want to develop Oxpens for office space ( I maybe wrong ) something being muted in the OM last year I believe, so with the SB appearing to be including an ice rink then that’s win win for OCC
Probably something they requested in the blueprints as they seem highly on board with the project, from what I can gather local councillors at OCC are 100% behind the move, this meeting on the 18th is just a tick box exercise from my point of view.

Hopefully, the Kiddy councils will take a leaf out of the Biztur ones and ignore local nimby opinion, and it will go through on the nod. Shouldn’t stand in the way of ‘progress’ after all….😉🤭
Biztur councils approve waterparks, maybe we could get the stadium built in Bicester 😱😂

Clearly have already by the plans. I would think a planning application would go in by the autumn to allow time to rectify if any issues come up. Looking at that plan that's over 2 years building unless we're working round the clock.
OCC obviously support it, the meeting on the 18th is just a tick box exercise in my view, other sports clubs have all voiced support and this was probably known unofficially for months. It will then go to CDC & that is when they will have to go into more detailed planning from what I can gather. CDC will be the ones to work with more so than OCC as they already support it from everything I’ve seen and they along with ourselves have obviously been talking to other stakeholders on the site for longer than we realise, this doesn’t just happen overnight.

So is this basically the world’s biggest squirrel, to deflect attention from the Lincoln debacle? No ones moaning about that now, are they??
Well tbh I knew about it Friday night & it didn’t make the Lincoln performance any better for me 🤣 although after Tuesday night it doesn’t look as bad a result as it once did.

Maybe I'm getting worried.... but is our club really this lucky ?

The new owners honestly appear to be great guys but WOW!
Wouldn’t surprise me if the university are somehow involved with the funding and get use of certain facilities, it will bring millions of pounds into the county and city as a whole, plus one of either kassam/OCC will be making millions from the development of the kassam once it’s bulldozed. Wouldn’t be surprised if there’s an agreement softly in place for that land already

Stratfield Manor sounds like the kind of place you might book a Spa weekend for an anniversary gift.
Never know could be something you can incorporate into visiting the new ground if the plans are true, perfect for the woman in your life while the match is on 🤣
