Stewart Donald to buy Sunderland

Never the easiest area to attract players even when in the top flight,Will either be another Blackburn/Wigan or Bury....Be interesting to see how many of the fans stay with the club.
Sunderland fans will back the club.

Good luck to Stuart - he always seemed like a nice guy, and had our clubs interest at heart. Heck of a job he's got on his hands now, mind.

However, if you look at the teams that have been automatically promoted in our two years in League One - Bolton, Sheffield United, Wigan & Blackburn - they have all been stocked with Championship players on Championship wages. And none of them have had even close to the resources that Sunderland will have next year with their 2nd season parachute payments (which under the new PL TV deal are colossal) and 30,000 crowds.

Yes, Sunderland are wasting a ton of money on bad players that they seemingly can't get rid of. But assuming at least some of those contracts are expiring, their buying power will dwarf anyone who's ever played in the third tier of English football.

If they hire a competent manager (be it MApp, or someone else) then I would have them 10/1 on for automatic promotion.

Bolton, Birmingham & Reading would also have a big financial advantage over us as well. Burton wouldn't though.....they'll fit back into the middle of the pack financially.
I think 10/1 is very generous.

I am genuinely delighted for Stewart. Frankly, he and he alone, should have been owner of this football club on a number of occasions but that never quite happened for one reason or another.

I also don't blame Stewart for wanting his trusted lieutenants in charge, people he can trust and have worked with him for years, they're all quality people. They'll do a decent job. My fear is no doubt a few others will hang on for the ride, as per usual.

Likewise, when the other foreign investor(s) pops up it'll probably explain why Stewart needs to be in full control of the entire project especially if some of them can only spare their investment a few weeks/games per year.

Funny lot the Mackems, bet they wonder what will hit them when Oxfordshire's finest rock up, in yellow corduroy trousers.

I reckon Wilder will be a contender on the bench and a bun fight for the job of CEO.

Must admit to being very disappointed Stewart has never been able to take us over. Don’t want to judge Tiger just yet, but I know I’d feel a lot more positive about the long term future of the club under Stewart (and Sartori).

Yes it is disappointing that over the years when the opportunity has been there that SD never stepped up to the mark, I think we might have been more financially sound but as Eastleigh has proved it's not all about the money, look how many managers have been through there in recent years.

The sunderland situation seems to highlight one thing, people are more willing to get involved when the pot of gold is bigger and bigger returns.

Although the risk is by far a lot higher at a club like Sunderland and the supporters expectations so high.

I wonder if Donald has seen what Eales eventually achieved with Oxford - buy, invest, get promoted, sell for a profit, and wants to do the same thing whilst having some fun as football chairman at the same time?

Frankly if Sunderland don't get promoted straight back to the Championship with their ludicrous parachute payment it will be a disaster, and they still have another year or two after that?

Is that not business people do to make money?
With the melting pot of fan fervour that is in the North East, they will have to earn their money...

We have to remember that Sunderland would have been one of the favourites to go straight back up last season. The parachute payment is huge but they also have massive debts and playing contracts. Rodwell alone is on £3m a year!

Although you would still put them as favourites to go up, there are no guarantees. Anything but Champions next season will be a failure so it will be far from plain sailing.

I think I'd rather be in our basket case than theirs!!

I agree a car crash waiting to happen, they are really in the financial shite if they don't go up.
Is the EFL rules 60% in this league

SD arrives at the SoL, with Charlie in the back.
