Away Match Day Thread +++ 5/5/2018 Blackburn Rovers v OUFC Match Day Thread +++

I thought we did well without ever really being in danger of winning the game.

Bright start with a couple of efforts from distance but then they scored.

Could we have defended it better or was it just a good set piece goal?
I thought maybe we should have done better but happy to be corrected as I was quite high up.

The penalty I happened to think it was the correct decision, if as a keeper you go flying out like that you have to make sure that you 100% win the ball, I couldn’t be sure that he did.

That said, what a good save to make up for it.

Good goal from us, patient in moving the ball across the box, decent delivery and finish.

I’d agree with the other comments re Napa, seems some way off being a first Team player in a side that are genuine play off candidates, not strong enough on a lot of occasions and often keeps hold of the ball too long.

That said, it’s nothing a summer in the gym and 6 months out on loan in the conference won’t fix so he’s not one to write off.

For those who say that Payne has “no class” because he celebrated his goal, I don’t agree.

Personally I don’t care if an ex player celebrates, especially one who didn’t even spend a whole season at the club or one that was only on loan.

Scoring a goal, and one which could have won them the league is worthy of celebration, why shouldn’t a player enjoy it?

If going into the final game of next season and Mousinho finds himself scoring the winner against Burton that sees us into the play offs I’d expect him to celebrate.

Oh and Eastwood was excellent and it didnt look like a penalty to me. We really need to keep Eastwood.
he played for the penalty Easty had slid in to gather the ball, their player managed to get his toe to the ball and saw Easty down and went into him he could have jumped Easty, never a penalty

Sorry, are you saying that a loan move to Oxford United probably saved Jack Payne's career?
Not saved his career but Mowbry has seen him at Oxford when we played them and he saw what a player he could be. We took him on loan if when we took him he was being noticed we wouldn’t have got him.

Let’s face it, without Jack Payne in on loan we’d have probably had to win this game to stay up. He was a class above and got us at least 8 assists I believe with a few goals, arguably was a key player in winning us several points.

I've been to towns in worse physical condition than Blackburn, but as a group of people they really are degenerates. Classless chavs mostly.

I do like Rovers though and the stadium is really nice. We did quite well and the fans were brilliant. Surprised that despite making noise, the Rovers fans didn't really sing any songs. Strange atmosphere.

Excited for what KR has in store for us next season. If he has a competitive budget I think we'll challenge for playoffs.

Let’s not chat B*****s, Payne would be fine regardless of Oxford United. However, our manager has literally just throttled a Blackburn fan. Let’s not let this blow over. The man is a f*****g bloke. That, conjoined with a potential Ledson stay? What a summer we have ahead of us

Well, those silly northerners fucked their celebrations right up with that poorly timed pitch invasion.
Beautifully lambasted by our incredible supporters with ‘your an embarrassment’. Perfect!!
We sung so very, very loud today.
In a ground full of peculiarly quiet Blackburn fans.
The boys on the pitch are much better motivated and organised. They just want it, and are working flat out, so you can’t really ask for more than that.
That said, I am afraid that Obika, despite some good work, is just not going to cut it and needs replacing.
But we have the structure here of a really good team.
KR has done a fantastic job.
Lets just hope he can deliver more quality to a talented team and give our magnificent supporters a season of celebration next year.

They will as the game hadn’t finished and there seemed to be something with a fan and Nelson

The game never finished. I had my watch running for the 2nd half and the invasion happened at 46 mins and 30 sec meaning there was 2mins 30 secs to play and he played 1 second at the restart

Of course it made no difference but it cannot be tolerated that a game is called short because of fans. I suspect there will be no arrests and no bans but its embarrassing to see parents on the pitch with their young kids. What sort of example is that?

I think bans would be over the top in the majority of cases, of course it was wrong that they went on too early but they were always going to go on at some stage.

Let’s not forget that we invaded the pitch after the promotion game v Wycombe.

The club should be fined because they went on early.

The majority were good natured in the way they went on.

If, as it seems, there were some fans who went to confront players and management of OUFC then these are the ones that should be followed up with bans, fines, whatever is allowed under the law.

Yes they let of a smoke bomb that was pointless but so did our fans again, this one was actually thrown into the area behind the seats so was equally as pointless and probably wasn’t even visible to the wider crowd.

It certainly did nothing to add to the atmosphere which those who use them claim they improve

Thought our fans were superb today, speaking to Rovers fans before the game they said there would be some proper wankers there today, their normal attendance is around 12,000. Looking forward to next season!

Been back about 30 mins. Nice cheap parking £4, went in the fernhurst pub. Think it was a hungry horse too. Was ages waiting for a pint. Someone had heart attack i think, ambulance performed CPR. Not sure if whoever it was ended up ok. I really hope so!

The game, thought we started brightly, and performed ok. Poor marking allowing there centre half a free header, and then the penalty incident. I honestly couldn’t tell if it was a pen, but what a save from Simon Eastwood. I thought Napa made some good runs, and put himself about, but felt he gets knocked off the ball to easily. I think he needs to bulk up in the gym a bit! I thought Obika was ok, but just ok. The second half goal we scored was well deserved. We had a really good spell in the second half, and deserved our goal which was a lovely tidy finish from Henry. Just knew as soon as Payne come on he was going to score. I thought it had an element of luck about it with the deflection. It was a decent game, but thought we gave the ball away cheaply at times.

The referee and bald linesman were homers! Thought the referee was shite! He even gave there third goal, but then reversed it. All in all a decent effort from the lads, and looking forward to what KR can do in the recruitment process.

For a game which had little riding on it - I came away remarkably irritated I must say.

First the positives - for a team that flirted with relegation, had no discernible strike force and finished the game with children up front - I thought we have it a real go. Brannagan, Henry, Kane and Dickie were outstanding...whilst Eastwood had a worldy in goal (joke decision for the penalty aside).

And our fans are incredible. There where 1200 of us, we weren’t going to make more noise than 20,000 drunk northern yobbos banging sticks, blowing vuvuzelas, letting of smoke bombs and generally being a thoroughly detestable bunch...but wow did we give it a go. It was deafening in the away end at times - and we more than contributed to a hell of an atmosphere. Some of their (more reasonable fans) nodding in agreement and applauding at the ‘you are embarrassing’ chant at the end being a particular highlight. Going toe-to-toe in front of a packed house, on an even-footing with the former champions of England felt a LONG way from the depths of Stafford Rangers, Histon, Droylsden, St Albans City and Barrow...

But I largely left quite angry. Angry at some outrageously bad officiating, particularly from that one linesman who was the biggest ‘homer’ I’ve ever seen in my life. Angry at their dribbling, brain dead morons for ruining their own celebrations with their own stupidity...and ESPECIALLY angry at the atrocious stewarding that led to a potentially dangerous situation for our players and staff

Ignoring their paltry, minimal intervention at the repeated smoke bombs, whomever leads their stewarding team needs sacking. From 70 minutes onwards you could see more and more drunk, red-faced, sunburnt idiots (and their buck-teethed, illiterate offspring tooting away on their vuvuzelas) massing at the front of the bottom tier. It was crystal clear what was about to happen. Yet the movement and positioning of stewards to stop it was almost non-existent. You could have driven buses through the gaps in their stewarding line.

And even after the initial rush onto the field - rather than restore order they just stood there grinning. Ultimately it’s all irrelevant - but at the very least why the hell weren’t they getting their bums onto the pitch to form a bit of a corden around our players and staff so they could respectfully applaud 1000+ fans who’d endured the usual endless hours of commuting on the hellhole which is the M6 these days...

But instead they left our team to wade through the mass of idiots themselves - and were exposed to some of the lowest levels of human filth imaginable. Embarrassing - and in the end comical scenes. But I was angry at how abysmal the attempts at controlling what was as obvious a crowd situation as you could ever wish to predict...and even more angry that our players and staff were endangered because of it

All in all I walked out head held high, proud of the effort as a club we’d all put in...and grateful that we’ll be back in this league next year.

And the stewards pitch side were totally useless just stood looking at lower tier and the fans that had stayed in their seats not the cretins that invaded the pitch even the 2 knobs where ran on with flares.

Oh and move over Briggsy it’s Robbo’s gonna get you.

There average attendance this season for Blackburn is 10,849 and the silly bitch on Goal rush said with their support at Ewood Park they still have it, according to some of their fans they were pissed of they were there as they sang to those muppets on the pitch” where were you when we were s**t “

On the subject of the gentleman who collapsed in the pub car park, I too am wondering if he's Ok!!!! Not a good thing to see, as someone near me said the police could have held a sheet or something up to give the man some dignity instead of just letting everyone see what was going on

To be fair they were probably concentrating on saving the man rather than holding up a sheet

Sorry, but both Obika and Napa were poor again. Obika for the usual reasons and Napa getting pushed off the ball, and poor passing. He’s far too lightweight and small, cotton candy, powder puff.

I actually thought it was Napa’s best game I’ve seen him play even if he lacks a bit of strength, but having said that I that I felt he battled well against two burly defenders and the strength will come.

Disappointed that we didn’t see out the 2mins of injury time that was left to play, especially if we’d got an equaliser after their premature celebrations. Just don’t think we managed that whole episode well from a club perspective. Not sure why our players had come back into the pitch whilst their fans were still on it e.g. which may have avoided the altercations that ensued, and why we allowed/agreed to finish the game prematurely, but hey ho, let’s hope we have a better summer than last year in terms of player recruitment which shouldn’t be too hard, and an improved season e.g. at least play offs.
