Away Match Day Thread 18/9/21 L1: Cheltenham Town v OUFC

Poor today and all a bit too predictable unfortunately. Our defence has looked weak so far this season, a jelly would best describe it. Whatever happened to building a team based on a solid defence?. Surely we have to question the recruitment. Hopefully we turn it around.

If we don’t succeed at the end of the season there will be a clamour for him to go and will the new owners want him. Surely some of the transfers are down to him

Completely isolated and had 0 service. Especially second half.
I don't think the blame should fall mainly on Taylor, and I don't think Agyei is the answer either.
Then we have to get in replacements if they’re available In January. Apparently Jerome Sinclair is without a club he couldn’t be any worse

He was isolated but he also didn’t play well - the two aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. He didn’t miss loads of chances but he also didn’t challenge in the air or link the play. It obviously wasn’t solely his fault that we didn’t win but he didn’t have a good game.

Agyei may not be the answer but if Taylor isn’t playing well and Winnall is injured then couldn’t be at least be given a chance? If not then why is he still here?

I let those who went dissect this one.

A message I would say about it and a question to the players, KR and the board. What sort of season do you want this to be? Winners or also rans?

We have no divine right to win every match but we’re looking at best like a side treading water. Can we be more bullying and more aggressive?

I certainly don't think Agyei is the answer if all we do is replace one striker getting very poor service with another one getting the same! It's all a bit unimaginative from KR - why not bring Agyei on and play him *with* Taylor? Or move Whyte more centrally? If we wanted to play this way, we needed to bring in a striker who can hold up a ball.

down to 14th place ..... but only 2points off the playoffs

need to start capitalising on chances when they're created, must be more clinical

Both very valid points. I back Robbo but he's got some questions to answer regarding this.
I've wanted to be patient with Winnall, but it just hasn't worked out for him, he just seems like a lesser Taylor.

I don’t get the clamour for Agyei at all, he lacks the footballing brain and decision making and never seems to take the opportunities given to him
What opportunities?!?

He was given 20mins today, when the team were playing shite, and creating nothing for him.

Other than that, he's been given 5mins here and there, or not used at all, and you think he's not taking his opportunities?!?

I'm not saying Agyei is the messiah, yes he seems to lack a footballing brain, and he may not be the answer, but he clearly knows where the goal is, and offers something different, and with our only real option Taylor not scoring, and Winnall about as much use as a chocolate teapot, Agyei is the only other option as a striker, and needs to be given a run in the side, to show weather or not he can make a difference.

But that said, I'm not blaming Taylor for his lack of goals this season, we could have Harry Kane up front at the moment, but if we're not creating anything for the strikers, or carving out any clear cut chances for them, then we're fucked.

If things aren't working in a game, there's nothing wrong with making changes on 50-60 mins if it's needed, a concept lost on KR, who seems to wait until we go behind in games before bringing on substitutes, or sometimes not making any changes at all until after 80mins!

His decision to not bring in any extra out and out strikers in the summer, whilst bringing in countless wingers, stinks of nativity, and an inability to understand how to build a balanced squad.

What's the point in having all these wingers, if we've got no real options through the middle, other than Taylor, a knackered Winnall, and an unfancied Agyei?!?

If we're gonna turn things around, and get anything from this season, KR needs to take a long hard look at himself, and wise up.

You know - he clearly doesn't deserve to get fired. Back-to-back League One playoff finishes and being an Anthony Stewart stud away from the Championship is an excellent track record at OUFC, whatever we all might want to believe.

But I'm starting to feel the same way as I did in the last twelve months of Wilder's reign.
If someone else did come in for KR, or something happened for him to decide to move on, I'd be more happy than sad.

I'm just tired of getting frustrated by the same things every week/month/transfer window. A new manager would mean a whole heap of new things to get frustrated about!
