(This is the first time I’ve seen the Brock free-kick on TV)
Great find, not seen that for years. We used to record all the goals off the TV onto an old betamax tape, that was one we had.

We had a VHS recorder and I did likewise. Had loads of tapes In those days.

I think we took thousands to OT that night but i was not allowed to bunk off school to go !

I remember listening to Live Rad Ox commentary that night.

I remember being there that day, some wonderful players. Also, Christophe Remy was the philosopher Eric Cantona tried to be and failed.

Did the reading keeper die?

Steve Death played 537 games in goal for Reading which for a guy that was only 5 ft 7” is pretty amazing.

He was the shortest goalkeeper in the Football League for many, many years. Sadly he passed away in 2003.
Ended up being the green keeper at Mapledurham Golf Club in South Oxfordshire before his passing.

The away crowd for a fairly local game was poor
I don’t think the picture is from the actual game. Look at the crowd, short sleeves and not a winter coat in sight.

I think it’s from a Group Cup pre-season match in 1981.

I'm sure that pic was taken from our end . Behind that goal were Reading fans.

Certainly looks like it but no matter what match a few miles down the road and they bring a puddle of away support, especially knowing what the U’s would have take to Elm Park

Always fond memories for his hat-trick and somersault against Sheffield United. And the winner at Carlisle.
A sad loss.

Can’t believe that’s 21 years ago.
