And what a game it was. They took the lead just before halftime with a dodgy penalty. Second half we were superb, urged on by a really vocal away support, I still believe we dragged the team over the line after Leicester equalised for 2-2 with about 4mins or so left. We just didn't shut up in the second half.

One of my all-time favourite away trips.

Never managed to go to the stadium, but spent plenty of time there once it was converted to halls of residence for university students. Never considered that it might have been the location of a dramatic win for the Mighty Yellows.

Leicester’s new ground was built very close to the old ground in Filbert Street.

The U’s visit the King Power stadium on Saturday 24th January.

Wasn't it Emile Heskey scoring the penalty when he was 18 (or something like that)? I could be mixing games up though.

A first half Peter Foley strike was enough to see the U’s through on a cold Manor Ground afternoon.

Remember it well. My glasses got knocked off when we scored and as i went to pick them up, they disappeared between the terrace into the overgrown nettles below. Mick Brown got a copper to escort me to look for them, never did find them.

It was a “interesting” afternoon!

How bad was your prescription? Were you able to see any of the remainder of the match?

When I was 12 we drove up to Liverpool to watch a match, as a mate of Dad's had a couple of free tickets. We got there about midday for a 3pm kickoff. As I got out the car I stumbled over the curb, my glasses fell off my face, and I trod on them, completely cracking the frame and one of the lenses. My eyesight is so bad, and with seats towards the back of the stand, there's no way I would have been able to see anything on the pitch. Thankfully there was a "VisionExpress" close enough to the ground, and they knocked together a new pair for me for me to pick up with about 30 mins til kickoff!

Yes, I was able to follow the match. Couldn't really pick the players out but could follow the pattern of play.

Was the Mick Brown you refer to the U’s manager or the Mick Brown who ran the away coaches?

I went to the Colchester match and for some reason stood on the home terrace along the side. I remember Essex girl near me thought we were posh because we had a ''Jason' in our side.

Late to the party on this but on Nov 18 1987 why were there only 3k at Bury v Man U, does anyone know why? The ground would have held 10/20k at that time I would have thought. Its a v short trip for Man U and probably 3k of their fans in Bury. There was a bigger crowd at Yeovil/Worcester

10 years ago last week - Orient 2 OUFC 2. Roofe and Lundstram(?) put us 2 nil up, they equalised in injury time. Remember that game as I was by myself. My seat number was WC1. Spent 10 mins trying to find it, baffled a couple of stewards before someone clocked that it was a seat accompanying a wheelchair right next to the pitch. There were no wheel chaired fans that day. I sat there by myself with a couple of shopping bags (had treated myself in London before the game) on display. Never felt so conspicuous in my entire life! Basically celebrating the goals by jumping up by myself. I also remember Jordan Graham playing an absolute blinding game before being sent off.

‘Snortin’ Horton’ was the headline in the Sunday sports pages as United concede two goals at the death to lose to 2-1 at Maine Road to Manchester City.
Richard Hill put United ahead before two stoppage time goals from Trevor Morley and Steve Redmond stole a late win for City.

After the final whistle a furious U’s boss Brian Horton locked the dressing room door and ripped into his players.

Saw this on FB so thought I’d share it. Probably my favourite player View attachment 32108
Amazing to think considering the impact he had on our club, and the legend status he still holds in the minds of supporters, that he only played 41 games for us. Has any other player made such an impact to us with so few appearances?

Depends what you consider to be an impact. George Baldock only played 47. He definitely impacted us as fans, as well as making a strong contribution to keeping a terrible side up in 14/15, and then getting us promoted in 15/16.

Yeah Baldock was the only one I could think of who even comes close. Billy Hamilton, for those who weren't around at the time, scored 20 goals in his 41 appearances. His partnership and understanding with John Aldridge absolutely tore the division we are currently playing in to absolute shreds. He had scored 17 goals in 26 games before getting injured warming up before an FA Cup game at The Manor. It wasn't just his goals output though, he was the perfect foil for Aldridge, who was also scoring at a tremendous rate.

Unfortunately, despite a few false dawns, he never managed to recover from that injury properly.

I don't think so in my memory (since 1984 basically). Not when you take goals into account. If you're looking at cult hero, fan songs etc, then Ricardinho (39 apps) might come into the conversation? But we didn't really achieve anything with him here, so less of an impact certainly.

(Weirdly, Wikipedia gives Billy 92 appearances for Us, but that's obviously bollocks. We all know RageOnline is the bible of such matters)

I was there that day. He wasn't the only one fuming.

Other memory from that day was a Police Horse stood at the top of a slope above us as we waiting to leave having a p**s, we scattered out of the way sharpish which amused the Copper no end. 😂
