Transfer News Transfer window 2020/21

It’s not about if you’re right or not, it’s about not burning the bridge in case you ever want them back.

The guy wanted to go and live in America and experience it. He got to do that. Robinson should’ve shut his mouth and if it was as doomed as he thought maybe he could’ve ended up with him anyway.
It's always good to be gracious, more so when you are right.

Perhaps a bit cynical, but might be an especially good time to be looking at Non-League prospects, given their clubs' financial uncertainties currently. Wouldn't have to spend that much normally but possibly even cheaper now.

Personally, I think the play offs are looking unrealistic. Far from impossible and I think we *could* go pretty close, but just don't see us making it. Wouldn't mind recalling/buying + playing some youth prospects, make the most out of midtable mediocrity + getting ready for a push next season. Doesn't seem much point in bringing in loans now unless they're going to either be here next season or get us promotion.
Interesting perspective. I think there's no doubt we'll be seeing more of the young players if the season continues to completion, as playing twice a week for months and the inevitable fatigue and injuries that come with that will see every squad stretched.

But I think writing off the season now seems very premature. It's difficult to tell how far we are off the playoffs exactly, as every team has played such different numbers of games, but I really don't think it's particularly insurmountable - only 8 or 9 points. That's only three results, which, with games coming so frequently from now on, could be a difference made up in 10 days or so. We're the division's form team, while no team at the top is really running away with it, suggesting everyone above is pretty inconsistent, too, and will take points off each other. I think Lincoln will fall off, I think Doncaster will fall off without Whiteman, Ipswich are doing their usual tanking after a strong start, etc. The only team I think are looking really strong are Pompey, and they still have to come to our place. It's not a particularly strong league this year - add the right couple of signings and we could honestly make a proper go of it.

Oh no sorry I thought the pandemic was the same for all clubs. We haven’t been ready ready in previous seasons too.

But you weren't comparing us with other clubs from this summer but with a different owner/manager/time period for Oxford.

I wonder...

As far as I can tell, he's been fit, and the Blackpool loan appears to have been underwhelming. Will Liverpool look to offload, or will he go on another loan (Garbutt style, until his contract expires). Robinson rated him to the best of my knowledge and we may be the best bet for getting him back on track.

I don't think he did particularly well when with us before, and didn't look much for Blackpool when we played them earlier this season.

I don't think we need a central midfielder anyway as was the case with that Spurs midfielder that Pompey loaned who we were linked to by one of those rumour sites.

Why on earth play some youth prospects if, as you say, the playoffs are 'far from impossible' and ' we could go pretty close'?!

Yep agree with all your points and certainly wouldn't mind seeing this approach either. If Tiger is ready to risk it and invest in some quality loans (most likely source of promotion material currently?) I'm all for it.

Eitherway l think we're at a unique point with our squad - it seems to be the first January in a while where we aren't definitely going to be losing a key player(s) going into next season. Dickie last summer (with Baptiste in Jan), Nelson before, Ledson (+ Rothwell) back in '18. So I'm confident that we'll be a very strong postion next season even without promotion.

This is the crucial issue, isn't it. Over the past 15 games we're top 6 (6th over the past 15 games, 4th over the past 10 games, and top over the past 5 games). And now we've also got Cam Bran back. Of course there's no guarantee that we'll continue to play as well, but, as ttg pointed out, most other teams have been inconsistent, with only Portsmouth, Doncaster, and Lincoln doing consistently as well as, or better, than us over the past 15 games. So, much as I'd love to get a couple (or 4) new players in, there's really no reason to think that we couldn't make the playoffs even if we didn't sign anyone. Though in that case we'd need to stay free of serious injuries at the back! CB cover does seem to be essential.

Not improving the squad though. I rate our first team midfielders more highly than him. Half the time he seemed lost not knowing where he should be or what he was supposed to do.

I'm not saying start Spasov over Taylor every game, but we could try and bleed in the youngsters a bit more, especially closer to the end of the season if we can't go up (like Nico Jones a couple of seasons ago).

Certainly not going to complain if we go all in for promotion, just saying I wouldn't mind us playing safe and building for next season. Say we brought in a loanee on ~5k a week and don't go up, that's a lot of money + playing time that have been invested elsewhere.

Maybe with a couple of weeks of the season to go, but doing it with nearly half the season left, is like giving up on promotion. What if they are not ready for the first team?Someone like jones, couldn't even rustle up a non league loan move.

Woodburn like Holland appeals far greater if you bring them in permanently. (it’s not like they have futures at their clubs) If we sign these players on loan & they flourish they’ll most likely join a higher up club end of the season.
